As much as Picard and Disco have been complete disasters, I gotta be fair and say Strange New Worlds has been pretty damn good and Lower Decks has some great episodes if you can survive the first half of season 1. (No lie, EP9 of S2 "wej duj" is probably the best episode of Star Trek in 25 years.)

@@jaybluff281 of the official Startrek stuff.. Lower Decks is by far the most true to traditional trek-form (and admittedly a favourite of mine) . Sure Strange new worlds is better than other 'current' live action Trek..... I'd like to see the emotion tech get adapted for current Kaylon generations. It would massively strengthen the bond with the Union and it would make for some really interesting episodes about how they deal with their new emotions as a species, something Star Trek has never done before, Data was the only android to acquire emotions.

@@darkleome5409 I actually found "tale of two topas" to be, perhaps accidently, very anti-woke, anti-trans. It's premise is the child was born a girl and was modified into a boy to fit the parents politics, which the crew found Abhorrent. Pretty much fits the behavior of the current left toward their children and societies reaction to it.

I love the CGI special effects, but never understood why these ships bank against the atmosphere in a turn and make 'whooshing' sounds (or any sound) as they travel through the vacuum of space.
@karlallen3302 жыл бұрын
Psychology. I think Star wars had an explanation for noise in space. Basically, scanners would be used to identify possible noise sources and project them to pilots or crew as the appropriate noise and direction. Helps keep people from thinking about the cold empty black, just beyond the glass, helped keep their minds from fraying in the quiet of space. I could be wrong though.
@jayski94102 жыл бұрын
That's always been my pet peeve. Maneuvering in space is nothing more than short thruster bursts in one direction or another. Sometimes longer rocket burns to change orbits. But mostly its just riding your momentum with nothing burning. Of course that's not very visual or exciting so Hollywood seems insistent on giving spaceships aerodynamic flight characteristics in a vacuum. And let's not forget that shooting anything with mass from a spacecraft would send you into reverse pretty quickly.
@danamoore17882 жыл бұрын
I think TV Tropes went over it. Basically most viewer would wonder about the lack of sound. So they put it in even though they know it is wrong.

Because silence is fucking boring
@Caseytify Жыл бұрын
Roddenberry called it the "Aunt Millie effect." If your Aunt Millie doesn't buy into it, the scene won't work. People are used to ships moving through an atmosphere, so they subconsciously expect the ship to bank, and to make a noise when it passes the camera. The original Star Trek opening credits had the Enterprise flashing by the camera silently, but it didn't test well. Once they added the "swoosh" effect, folks were happy.

You're acting like this is the first ever star ship to have windows. And I'm pretty sure most star trek ships have their bridge at the top exposed. This is the only one that decided to have a view screen and a window at the same time
@RealCheese15 Жыл бұрын
Actually yes, it is explained in this very season that the entire ship is protected by a quantum field generated by its dysonium core, which protects the ship from the vacuum of space and any small debris or space dust. So there is a clear *KNOWN* shield around it, *OTHER THAN* its usual deflectors, also clear defensive shields. Its almost as if the show explains its mechanisms and world to you but you didn't pay attention during it!
