Outstanding video as usual. I love the DC output this unit provides. Not too keen on the 2500W inverter. Such a large inverter is the reason for great loss of efficiency. When I buy these power banks, power consumption is my main focus and not running high consumable electronic devices . I do love that I could literally power 3 of my 12V fridges in case of an emergency using the dc ports. Have to watch your video with the 1500ef Pecron that is pretty amazing too and see which would be more suited for me after I do a power analysis of the devices I would connect. What I do love about this unit is the solar charging capabilities it offer with up to 150V making it easy to hook up solar panels in series. Thank you for such eloquent and succinct information you offer on your channel.

So using the AC is more efficient than the DC??? Usually it’s the other way around for most other power stations correct?
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid 2 ай бұрын
@@ccwstraightshooter9761 for small power stations, yes, that's the case. For a larger power station with a 48v battery, the DC output needs to be regulated down from 48v to 12v so they are not as efficient. Small power stations have 12v or 24v batteries and are more efficient in their conversion. Check my grading sheet, you'll see the same pattern between all these models.

Great review, Jason. I agree the Mega 2 is a great value in the solar generator market and I'm quite pleased with mine. I use it for high drain devices, so love that it can handle the power. Yes the tradeoff is lack of efficiency so you cant just leave it always on for days at a time unless you've got enough solar attached. I bought the Anker 737 power bank (with info screen) for my phones and tablet. When that goes down, I charge it up in the 100W USB port and then shut off Mega 2. I use the Mega 2 for the big stuff. I also have Ecoflow Glacier Fridge. When possible. I run it on battery power and only charge that battery with Mega 2 when its low. This is most efficient way to use Mega 2 since parasitic draw is high. Another great duo setup is to get the Honda EU 2000i gas generator. Use it only to charge the Mega 2 on the max AC 1600W setting. If you get 6 gallon expansion kit for Honda, it can run an Air Conditioner a long time. This lithium, solar, gas combo is killer with tons of redundancy.

Excellent presentation. Thank you. This is a very nice unit. Very, very solid 12v output options. The "square" form factor is very nice (some of their other models have a weird top handle). If you have space for it, this is a solid unit for car/van/truck camping. I wish they would take this same unit concept and make a couple of smaller units - say perhaps 1000wh and 1500wh. You should review their B2 Accessory battery. It looks to be very solid as a stand alone unit if you don't need 120v outputs and a lot of people dont when car/truck camping.

Replaced an Anker C1000 with the Mega 2. Decision made because of price, 2400 ac output and 2100 watt PV input. Jason’s review was right on. Unit does take time to build up PV input and it does require more power to maintain the inverter on with no load. Neither of these issues have negatively affected my use of the power station. BEWARE though the mobile app is bad. Once set up the Anker connected and stayed connected via WiFi. Occasionally had to refresh the app. The Oupes app has not connected for the past two days and when it does connect it doesn’t stay connected very long. This may be a deal breaker. I am working with support which has been responsive. Another reason I went with Oupes is the fact they have a phone number for support, not just email or chat.

We bought the Mega 2 a couple of weeks ago, based on other good reviews (ReeWray etc) and your review of the Mega 3. However, we have been really disappointed in the DC idle power usage. Ours loses almost 1% per hour, which is higher than the Mega 2 you tested and much higher than the Mega 3, even accounting for the larger battery. We have been in touch with customer service for 8 days now, it’s been difficult getting responses. However, we finally were told that this amount is normal and expected. So, we are going to return it. Losing 22% of the battery in one day just to keep the DC ports available, which we need to do while camping , is just way too much for us. We thought something was wrong with our unit and would have been happy to exchange for another one, since we like everything else about it, but since they say this is expected that is no longer an option. Just wanted to mention this. Of course, if you have any thoughts or insight, that would be appreciated. I have learned a lot from your videos and appreciate all the time and effort you put into them-they are very thorough.

What did Reewray see on his idle usage numbers in his tests? I saw 8-9 percent loss over 12 hours so that lines up to their 'normal' operation of 16-18% over 24 hours. The devices you run also will drop it an additional amount.
@athensrunnergirl
@athensrunnergirl 2 ай бұрын
@@Jasonoid I actually don’t think he did this exact test, but I can go back and look. He does most of the other ones you do. Yes, you saw 8-9%, we are seeing 11-12% (22-23% in 24 hours)- and we even tested only having either the high power DC enabled or the low power one, as well as both at the same time. It didn’t matter, it lost the same amount each time. We also turned the wifi/bluetooth off just in case that was using extra power. Because they kept requesting that we try different things after each phone call (like fully discharge then recharge the battery several times) we ended up testing this several times as well. Also, for these tests we had nothing connected, we just wanted to see how much it used on its own.
@athensrunnergirl
@athensrunnergirl 2 ай бұрын
@jasonoid. One last thing. This is from the last contact I had with them. As I said we are returning and will choose a more efficient battery, which we know will cost more. We are not unhappy otherwise with the OUPES, but this is important to us. But, it is worth seeing what they say. Maybe they have changed something or there is a quality control issue with their system. We received ours around March 15. “ DC standby consumes about 12% of power overnight, which is normal. The standby power consumption of DC is about 12W and the standby power consumption of main power supply is about 8W. For the Mega 2 power station, the power consumption per hour is: 100/[2048/(12+8)]=1%.” So they say 24% power lost from standby DC power is normal (even worse than what we tested). Just something to be aware of. Thanks again for getting back to me! Will go back to your chart to help us choose another one. : )

@@athensrunnergirl thank you for providing all the great info. You know it would be pretty cool for companies to include all this technical information on their website or owners manual. I just bought 4x100W EMFX Shadestopper panels. If you plan on using them at camp sites where there are always trees and shade, this might be a good way to go. I picked them up on sale for $109 each 100W panel and got the Barrel to MC4 adapter free with each. As of this post, they are $120 each now. My other rationale was since Mega2 solar charger is so slow, I didn't want panels to drop down to 0 in shade or cloud cover. I haven't been able to test this out yet. If you are keeping solar panels in one place and don't need portable, I also have 8x100W Renogy mountable panels that could be portable. Those I bought aluminum stands that can hold 2 panels each and relatively small when taken apart. This could be used as permanent or semi-portable. I can also put everything in 4 series in 3 parallel arrays with only a little loss in wattage due to minor variances in V and A for nearly up to 1200W in perfect conditions. The loss in amps is actually good to stay within the 15 Amp max of the Mega 2 solar charger.

If it has such a large voltage range how little of volt can make it work on solar panel. I’ve found that to be a problem in my Bluetti 2000. It won’t solar charge with 200 watts only. It needs the 400 watt and corresponding voltage to begin to charge. The lower wattage smaller solar chargers don’t habe that problem and can easily charge on 200 watt

The Bluetti AC200p required 32volts input for solar charging. You could use two 100 watt panels in series and it would charge just fine. This model does not have that requirement, it will charge from any small solar panel.

Perfectly content to swap a little less DC capacity for more DC power output. Just out of curiosity, is there any reason you don't test the RV outlet for the full 30 amps? I didn't see that anything was ever plugged in there for the sake of load test or to check the amp output. Nice unit!
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid 2 ай бұрын
The entire inverter output is good for 2500 watts peak, which ever port you use, including the 30 amp RV outlet. That's about 21 amps, 2500 watts / 120v = 21.8 amps
@twloughlin

@@Jasonoid So to be clear, I can never get 30 amps out of the RV outlet? Only 21.8 amps?
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid 2 ай бұрын
@@twloughlin correct, you can only pull the total power the inverter allows you to pull, 2500 watts. This is the case for any power station, no matter what the port size is, you'll only be able to pull the rated wattage. It can be a little confusing since the name of the port is a "30 amp RV outlet".

@@Jasonoid Thanks for replying. That's my main point - they labeled a port as "30 amp RV" and that's confusing to noobs and novices like me. I won't go so far as calling it deceptive, but really I could just as easily get an RV dog bone adapter and use a 20 amp port to connect an RV.

Depends on what you will use it for. The Mega 3 has 50% more power capacity. It can power 2 power hungry devices at once. But it also weighs like 80 something pounds vs. Almost 50 pounds. The 3 has built in wheels, but you may still need to lift from ground level at times. The 3 will also take up more space while the 2 is a nice compact box. Both take the B2 2Kwh expandable battery packs. If you can get by with only 12V DC including that 30 Amp output power and 100W USB outs, I'd even consider getting just the B2 expandable battery pack. It's same capacity as Mega 2. I've seen it on sale for $750ish. It has same solar charging, control panel as Mega 2. It lacks AC charging, but has lots of DC charging via Anderson charge port.
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid 2 ай бұрын
What he said 👆 The Mega 2 is smaller and more portable. It still allows for a ton of solar input though. They both have the high DC output. The Mega 3 is much bigger but allows for the full 30 amp output (3600 watts). If you need to power multiple loads at the same time you may want the Mega 3.

If your appliance needs a bonded connection while NOT wall charging, buy a bonding plug like this (like seen in this video): amzn.to/3VDcsJm The River 2 Pro has an open / floating ground just like any other power station. @@Jasonoid I also think all solar generator makers could add a smart circuit before inverter and dc regulator to keep down idle consumption. My iPhone doesn’t use 15 watts on idle, so a chip monitoring output ports and turning dc regulator and inverter on/off according to needs could bring idle down to a watt or two per hour. And a smart circuit that learns from habitual use is also helpful. Scheduled on/off time is also a simple implementation.
