Going through high school starting in 85, The Cars, The Outfield, Def Leppard, and several other favorite's, I feel lucky to have gone through the 80's in those years. Music today, for the most part, is crap. All I listen to is the music I grew up with. Wouldn't trade that time for anything.

John Spinks (lead guitar & much more) died in 2014. I thought they'd be a band I'd put away. Couldn't get 'Your Love' out of my head and have had to go back to them again. They were a bigger rock influence on me than I ever thought. I overanalyze music. Their 3-4 minute songs are brilliantly constructed.
@rtgray78 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree with you more about everything you said. Music doesn't have to be unnecessarily difficult in it's construct to be beautiful and timeless. No music brings that nostalgic feeling to me like The Outfield's does-and it's kind of pleasantly surprising...
@intercommerce Жыл бұрын
Tony under-rated himself figuring their music would hold up, un-dated, for 10 years. Little did he know, it's more like 40! It's now 2023, he's sadly passed away, but the music lives on! Despite having lived throughout this era and totally into rock & heavy metal, I do not remember this music or this band from that time period. Which is a complete mystery, 'cause its totally music I would have liked. It wasn't till 2022 until I heard "Your Love" and instantly loved it from first listen, and thought 'these guys are going places'! They went there alright. And "Your Love" totally endures, fantastic song. Even my nephew loves it, and he's 30 years younger than me. Only the greatest can span the generations and still be loved and not sound dated, bravo!!

The Outfield as I knew them in the UK came around the time I was about 12/13 when Grand theft auto: Vice City came out (I used to play with my older brother...) But Your Love was on there, and I still remember just how popular the game was, but also how many people you'd hear walking the halls of school singing that song, It was crazy! I've been hooked on them ever since, so many great feel good songs. I was astonished to hear they were actually from the UK, however I can see listening to music from that era why they weren't as popular over here due to the american sound. My dad remembers them though, so they surely must of had at least some airplay over here? Admittedly he does only remember "Your Love".
@pfaprado3 жыл бұрын
Same here, a lot of young people (late 80s/early 90s born) know the band bc of Vice City. A lot of 80s stuff such as Journey, Foreigner, Billy Idol, etc. we got our chance to meet them through GTA.

@ Benoit Vanhees - Triple Platinum means 1 Million three times. So, the LP 'Play Deep' sold approximately 3 Million copies. It was a successful album as it peaked at No.9 on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. Btw, VH1 has the amount of sold copies incorrect.

Tony Lewis had pipes don't know why they lip synced every show in the 80's
@SAJMusicWorks7 жыл бұрын
What you see is promotional videos that are lip-synched, the reason why you hardly ever see live from these guys back in the 80's is because of them changing labels from Columbia to MCA and from MCA to a more independent brand. So they have serious issues with releasing live content with copyrighted material aka they got screwed. and this infact in the past has had John in a few heated arguments with Columbia and Sony and to some extent MCA.
