Steve and I ran in similar circles. He was from a few towns over [Brockton mass] and he was a super dude. I have quite a few original pieces from him from the early days of his getting into published work. He was very knowledagble about comics history and was an affable guy with a wry smile. He is missed greatly.

Evil Ernie, Lady Death, ans the rest of Chaos Comics were the shit back in the 90's. They were comic books for a generation of fans that were sick of the superhero genre and wanted darker, scarier, and bloodier comics.

Tim Vigil did 2 covers for the original Eternity versions. I got to meet Steven Hughes back in the 90’s. Super nice guy!

I went to high school with Steven's son, Chance (he used to do cartoons for the school newspaper). I remember him being a really friendly guy.

I got into Lady Death and Chaos! around 1997, when it was not only active, but possibly at its height. And Steven has always been a huge personal favorite artist of mine. Absolutely underrated guy, who I feel like never got enough credit due to how some people in the 90s liked to deride Lady Death's design. Insanely detailed art, very competent storytelling, and all around amazing designs. He is sorely missed. You should absolutely check out the color stuff he did, especially with Jason Jensen, and later, with some digital assists from Jack Gray. Insanely beautiful stuff. Brian is very much a salesman with his characters and comics I think, but his love is genuine, even if his origin was trying to make a movie. He's definitely shown the comics world he loves it. He also has an amazing eye for talent. Lady Death manages to, even now under Coffin Comics, attract insane talent.

The first time I noticed Evil Ernie was when Fangoria mentioned the beginning of the series. They showed Ernie love way before Wizard and the rest of the gang jumped on the Bad Girl bandwagon. Fango was there when it was just a creepy looking horror comic.

Nice vid -Chaos, Lady Death -now under Coffin Comics by Pulido, need more appreciation Pulido did draw/design EE before Steve did If I recall correctly, remember pics were published in a Chaos comic, in addition EE is basically Pulido -who was a metal fan headbanger, appears from old art that Lady Death was a Pam Anderson Playmate blonde type at first as well -then she switched to the fully White version in the 2nd series under CHAOS! Chaos & Brain also did a tribute comic & fundraiser for Steve -so from all accounts there is No disregard for Steves influence this doesn't appear like the Stan & Jack, etc. situations out there From what I gather the post 9/11 turn away from horror is what what led to the sad fail of the original & best CHAOS! comics hopefully someday EE, etc. could return to Pulido in some way

My love for this comic started with a card from a vending machine. I think i had 50 or 60 ee cards, would save up coins and buy them at the video store as a kid. Never enjoyed marvel or dc stuff.

Its “whack” (including vulgar language) that Pulido created the character? Wow. Gross, and inaccurate. Steven Hughes was amazing and an integral part of the success of Ernie and Lady Death, I proudly own some original art of his...But Pulido created the characters. You put that very distastefully.
