Based on the best-selling nonfiction book The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor by CNN’s chief Washington correspondent Jake Tapper, THE OUTPOST chronicles the true story of the 53 U.S. soldiers who tried to repel an overwhelming attack by almost 400 Taliban insurgents at Combat Outpost Keating in northeastern Afghanistan.
It was easily the most heroic American battle in a generation - one in which two soldiers, Staff Sergeant Clint Romesha and Specialist Ty Carter received the Medal of Honor, the first time in fifty years that two living servicemen were recognized with the award for the same battle.
Starring Scott Eastwood (Clint Romesha), Caleb Landry Jones (Ty Carter), Orlando Bloom (Ben Keating), THE OUTPOST is directed by Rod Lurie (The Contender, The Last Castle) and written by Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson (The Fighter). The film is produced by Paul Merryman, Paul Tamasy, Marc Frydman, Rod Lurie, Jeffrey Greenstein, and Jonathan Yunger.
The film will have its world premiere at the 2020 SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas.

Most of us from 1st platoon refused to assist Jake tapper with the film. So ty carter pretty much got free reign to make shit up about himself. If he got the moh for carrying mace then Gallegos deserves that shit too because he died doing the same thing. After ty got back from the humvee he hid in the barracks for the rest of the fight. Hes also the biggest blue falcon I have ever seen.

@@bobrobert1123 Aww I see brother. Well obviously I wasn't there so I have no clue about the accuracy. I meant Authentic as in (Uniforms, Weapons, Slang etc). So SSG Romesha wrote a separate book, his own book and I guess this movie rushed the production of this film because they had the rights to another book. They didn't want to get beat by a potential movie being made out of Romesha's Book. I couldn't imagine if my Company had a movie made about them. I deployed to Panjwai Kandahar Afghanistan in 2011. We had our fair share of scandal. Pvt Danny Chen killed himself in a guard tower after some Racist hazing. It was plastered all over CNN etc. Also the Unit that Replaced us had that 11B(2ID) who killed like 14 Afghan Civilian(Kandahar Massacre)- Robert Bales He was at an ODA compound called "Old School" which was about 50 yards from the Cop I was at (Zangabad).

Holy smokes, I never imagined that a movie would be made about Kamdesh, LZ Copenhagen, and LZ Warheit. I was a member of the 961st Engineer Detachment 1, and we laid the groundwork for what became Cp. Keating. Our Detachment, particularly Vertical 1 went through a lot with 3-71 Cavalry there in Kamdesh and in Gowardesh. I can't wait to see this, but I'm not sure that it will cover what occurred for us to even get there, let alone hold that piece of ground.

Having read the book on this, I sort of wish that this was a series instead of a film. The book does a really good job of encapsulating the Afghanistan war by chronicling the entirety of COP Keating's existence, from conception to abandonment, and from unit to unit. And that perspective really allows you to examine the recurring issues that plagued the outpost (and in a greater sense the war as a whole). 3 units over several years had to fight an uphill battle in that place, each with their own triumphs and tragedies. Honestly it really does have enough material to make a good HBO series in the same vein as Band of Brother or Generation Kill.

The book that the movie is based on by Jake tapper gives a little bit more context on their activities and reason for the location. Jake tapper found out about the main attack from a news blurb on a hospital TV when his childwas born, and it stuck in his head and he decided to look into it and research it, and it became the book "The outpost".

I paid close attention to this in 2009. At that time, I figured there was something I missed in terms of why the outpost location was at such disadvantage. I guessed (I don't know if I am right) that they were counting on a nearby firebase for support. During the attack, the nearby firebase was unable to fire in support (I think there was a secondary attack). I remember their gunships took a long time to get there. I speculate that the officers who located the out post probably did a PowerPoint slide desk showing how they could locate the outpost in a lousy position but with superior technology the nearby firebase and gunships they could hold that position. (maybe this is how the mistake was made) At least that was my speculation back in 2009. I was doing a lot of technical briefings (backend UAV support) of foreign and domestic military and national intelligence agencies during the height of the conflicts.

Didn't the U.S. military do the same thing in Vietnam when they willfully built a firebase - irregardless of where it was - just so they could draw the NVA or the VC out in the open ? The Americans could call in air strikes. I think they tried to do the same thing here at Camp Keating - to draw the Taliban out to fight. Khe Sanh was a perfect example of how a remote American outpost could be protected and supplied by air. The French did the same thing in Dien Bien Phu - but with disastrous results - the French didn't have the airpower the Americans have.

I feel like cop's were in vulnerable locations for various reasons, most arent stupidity. One benefit would be vehicle access for convoys to protect roads and run patrols. On the downside if you are surrounded by higher elevation the COP is vulnerable. But that also has the benefit of drawing out the enemy. which then get ripped apart by automatic grenade launchers, mortars, air support, artillery.

250 nepalese army men faced similar situation with 150 engineer and 100 fighting unit they faced 3-4000 maoist rebels in a very tactically poor position . Although they were overrun by maoist in long battle with 160 army men and approx 800 maoist rebels dead , nepal army men fought bravely despite being outnumbered with manpower and ammunitions . This battle was the last battle of nepal civil war and this battle is recorded by army personnel who survived the battle unfortunately in Nepal we have no resources nor the will power to make a film about this story but looking at this movie i can imagine what had happened there . Salute to the army men .

Its called the Ant Lion trap. You lure the enemy down into the bottom of the trap with small and heavy arms fire. With more and more of the enemy showing up on the upper ledges of the trap hoping to crush troops at the bottom the leading edge of the enemy has no place to retreat to and must push forward into the maul of the ant lion below them. More and more little ants show up trying to get in on the massacre, but as nature intended, the ant lion reigned victorious. The troops threw lead, bits of sand, at the ants as they came into the trap. As the enemy died, enemy from further up the trap moved lower to replace the dead enemy, just like the grains of sand the pulls the ant into the trap as the ant tries to escape.

It's important to take the low-ground, and make sure the enemy surrounds you with all the high ground in a perfect 360 degree circle...!
