Most of the fandom considers this to be the most skippable episode, but hey, I enjoyed it. It's the little things. Also, if I had a nickel every time a demon voiced by Alex Hirsch possessed a teenager, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.

I enjoyed it as well. I know it doesn’t have major story implications, but I enjoyed it because I thought it brings our core three closer together and helps them understand each other better

@@randomstuff_723 yeah, even the worst episodes of this show are still pretty enjoyable episodes of television, imo. I’d compare this episode and 1x14 to The Great Divide episode of Avatar. Widely regarded as the worst episode of that show, still fun to watch, though you might skip it on a rewatch.

Hooty is a character that you would either really really love or deeply deeply hate. There's no in between for Hooty, they're always dialed to a 110 personally one of my favorite characters hoot-hoot

I don't really get the hooty hate either. I freaking love Hooty. He's such a weirdly endearing freak of nature that gets more amazingly horrifying with each episode he's in.

Not my favorite episode, but one thing i love about it is how having King in Luz's body really shows just how androgynous Luz's design is! I totally forgot he was supposed to be in a girl's body

I think it's maybe because his obliviousness can be a bit frustrating sometimes. I personally find Hooty equally endearing and disturbing, and only mildly annoying.

Mikey, I am completely with you. I love Hooty! He cracks me up! What I found interesting about this episode is that it isn't a complete filler since we found out that, once upon a time, Eda did want to be in the Emperor's Coven with Lilith, then changed her mind and decided not to join any coven. It makes you ask "Why? What made her change her mind?"

no plot nor character development and a story set up that have been done and re-done; compared to the others episodes of this show it's really weak. I still like tho, I agree with you, it's good fun

Part of the problem is that Eda and King's problems in this story aren't really that much of a problem outside of this episode. Eda has no issue selling her stuff otherwise and doesn't bother trying to hide her identity, and King's reactions to babying in all other episodes is either slightly annoyed acceptance or active enjoyment of it.

SPOILER WARNING: It's enjoyable but nothing beyond that. All three stories are pretty weak and merely retreads stock plotlines that we've seen a million times before. But what makes this the worst episode of the series is the body swap spell itself. The show introduces a spell which would have a major impact on future events if used during a more high-stakes situation, all for the sake of a cheap gimmick, and then has to pretend that the spell doesn't exist for the rest of the show. Imagine the disruption a mass body swap spell could have caused if it was during the Draining Spell on the Day of Unity. You could try to argue, that only Eda would be able to cast this spell and hence can't use it during Season 2, but that's definitely not how she frames it in this episode. Here it sounds like something witches do for fun from time to time.

To add to other commenters, there is another issue. I was exactly like you until I saw this episode for yet another time today. We are hit with the same story structure (dream life - change of tone - insurmountable obstacle - realisation and escape), which is ran through in roughly 5-6 minutes, three times in a row, with the same lesson and little additional development (except the Lilith stuff, I believe). It feels much weaker because of this.

This show gets much much much better at the end of the season and season 2, similar to Amphibia and Gravity Falls. I suggest doing more than 1 episode per week on both of those shows to get to the good stuff. Also, If I were to suggest a future show I would go with Over the Garden Wall, which is a bit of a darker cartoon miniseries that's only 10 episodes long. It's really good.

i don’t think they ever really say when eda and lillith became so estranged, but since she doesn’t know it was lillith that accidentally cursed her at this point, my interpretation is that they drifted apart after eda ran away and lillith graduated hexside/went on to the emperor’s coven. she needed to enforce the emperor’s will (making sure all witches join a coven) and also wanted him to cure eda, so i assume lillith spent years trying to convince her to join and eda spent those years running until she found the owl house

You missed a bit of lore albeit it was quite subtle... when Eda (Luz) got arrested and her sister was about to put the coven mark on her Lilith said her and Eda could finally be in the coven together like they wanted as kids so at some point Eda wanted to be in coven but for some reason she decided not to I guess that when she found out that the coven mark seals your magic besides the one the mark represents.

Question that's been on my mind since first watching this episode. Is Dottie (the old lady with the fangs) a witch or a demon? Or like a hybrid between both? We see a lot of minor characters that look mostly like a witch but a bit off. Like Boscha, who we also see in this episode. She looks like a witch, but she has 3 eyes. Maybe they just didn't think that deeply when designing the characters?

I'm glad someone else enjoyed this episode lol I thought it was a great way to show their different problems in separate perspectives, while also showing more of the Boiling Isles with The Kitty Cafe and King's interactions with the teenagers. Like the Ratworm race, even in the prison, when Luz got the mugshot taken and the demon that took the picture. And the ending of Eda body swapping everyone else was probably the funniest twist I'd seen when I was watching it for the first time, I wasn't expecting her to just leave them all swapped and the cinematic shot of Lilith howling lmao

As others have said, most people find this one of the weakest episodes. It's still fun though. Body swap episodes can lead to some fun shenanigans. Glad to see you enjoyed it!

I don’t like calling things filler, so this episode is more of a breather from the story to focus on characters, and hey, since it does show character growth, it technically isn’t filler. But this is an episode I consider weaker from the owl house (not that it’s bad, I saw another commenter call it a 5/10 episode and I definitely agree) it’s a fine episode, but not one I’ll rewatch a whole bunch. Here’s to more reactions, keep enjoying the show! Can’t wait to see your reactions to the rest of it.

Even though this episode is a bit adventure-of-the-week, I actually kind of wish there was time for more of that on the show. **(I think it's okay to say this because I don't think Mikey is checking comments from this far back. But just in case: mild spoilers ahead!)** Because of the show getting cut short it seems like we don't get nearly as many character focused episodes later because they are trying to cram in the whole plot in the time available. It would be cool to have gotten more episodes in season 2 that just explored the characters everyday lives and adventures on the Boiling Isles.

Probably the worst episode of the series, and still pretty enjoyable. If this is as a bad as it gets, you know you've got a pretty good show. It does cheapen Lilith's character a bit and introduces a spell, which the show immediately has to forget exists, tho.

Body Swap episodes are really dependant on someones tast, I think. For me personaly, this is the worst episode of the show xD But I'm glad you had fun with it ^^ It's not super bad...it's just blant and inconsequenzial compared to other episodes, is all. Only two good things I took from this episode, was Luz!King, and the info that Eda wanted to join the Emperors coven.

This is the weakest episode in lore. Compared to even episode one it has no implications for what is coming. Only really Lilith helps this episode by showing the emperors coven, but the other episodes are much stronger. This is a good fun episode, and it is alright to have any opinion on it; personally I don’t like it, it feels unimportant especially after last episode with Amity development.

Honestly, what drives this home better is that (spoiler warning) 2x8 of the same show executes a very similar premise much better, showing what the body swap episode could have been if they hadn't forced irrelevant conflicts.
