Amity said that because she saw Luz destroying the Tunnel of Love and thought it meant Luz didn’t want to date her, when in reality, Luz was just embarrassed by the display. Also, Luz didn’t want to use the mouse to woo Amity. She needs the mouse because it holds information that can help her get home, since their original portal got destroyed. She was just thinking of Amity since Amity helped her get the mouse in a previous episode.

Not all demons take a puberty test! Hooty set this up because there are no other demons like King on the Boiling Isles, and King is doubting if he even is a demon. He was adopted by Eda when he was a baby, so he doesn’t know his family. He doesn’t know who he is, and wanted a sense of belonging. Thats why hooty gave him a test: to try and help him.

I imagine the test is also useful for demons with mixed parents and thus mixed typing. Lets you seeing if you trend towards one of your parents types or the other. There is probably a large number of humanoid-beast type mixes, hence why they still need the blood test at the end. He could still be a humanoid, but just doesn't have the magic of one.

I think Hooty's more of an eldritch hermit crab situation, since turtle shells are a body part which is still alive. And yeah, the fact that there are organs built into the door of the house, along with giant chicken legs, suggests that he's either some weird demon which evolved to infest houses, or that the house was built to contain him 😟

You may have...missed a *few* plot points between Grom and this... A couple of relevant ones: The scroll the beachcomber picked up is the scroll that Eda was cursed with, so that whole capture sequence there is the Owl Beast's memory, not Eda's. Luz and Amity are both crushing on each other at this point...and both too nervous to tell the other one, though Amity did kiss her on the cheek a couple of episodes ago (then got very embarrassed - that's the moment Amity is referrencing). The "Echo Mouse" ate a book that has the secret to building a portal back to Earth - the original portal was destroyed - and it can replay sections of the book like a movie projector. But you can't control what it plays or when it plays and they're only short clips, so Luz is conflicted between keeping an eye on the mouse and being with Amity. The mouse itself doesn't have anything to do with their relationship.

At this point it goes without saying that the best part of this episode is seeing Lumity finally officially becoming canon! Although it was also interesting to see Hooty get some character development, And I loved Eda's new Owl Beast form she looks good as a Harpy woman. And King's new powers were pretty badass!

So, the thing with the Echo Mouse is that it can display information from books it ate. The mouse ate the journal that explains how to build a portal, so by taking care of the mouse, it'd show Luz instructions for how to build a portal back home As for why Luz was asking dating advice from a rat, i don't remember

Btw Matt, while I know you've only seen three episodes, I feel like, with the full context in mind, Hooty eating the mail at the end actually isn't too out of character! He has been shown in earlier episodes to have quite a tendency for snacking on the mail, but since he also tends to throw up pretty regularly, the mail is rarely ever lost, more like.... indefinitely delayed. It usually gets back to Eda eventually!

Luz's portal to Earth had been destroyed, but the man who originally created it left a journal describing how he built it but it got eaten up by the mouse, however it's an echo mouse, so it can basically play scenes from the journal, which Luz is trying to get it to do so she can remake the portal. The mouse has nothing to do with making Amity fall for her, it's just Luz had her attention split between her desire to go home and her desire to date Amity.

Since I don't think anyone has said it yet, Eda's Owl Curse is coded as being allegorical for chronic illness. It's really well handled and one of my favourite of the (many) excellent and meaningful character arcs from this awesome show.

Hooty is pretty much an owl-worm demon that's *infested* the house he is organically fused with the house, as you can see with the bits of guts and stuff still pulsing inside the door when Hooty tears himself out of the actual house, but it is not entirely a part of him (hence, him breaking through a window or the floorboards not hurting him) and there's still a difference between being inside of the Owl House (as in, being in the actual house) and being inside of Hooty (like the bugs he eats, the people he pellets or the letter to King at the end of the episode) though we *have* seen Eda and Luz step through Hooty's stretched open mouth to get into the house before in episode one, so he can very much choose whether to actually swallow something or simply act as a gateway
