Yes, I was lucky enough to work restaurant so I got a year and a half off making triple what I made when the restaurants shut down. I felt for you guys and my sister who was stuck out there, because everyone should like a year and a half off making x3 too :D It got boring after the first year, to the point where the reason why it was a year and a half and not 2 years that the time allotted was because even my isolated introvert butt needed to hear from coworkers daily happenings going on. The time also gave me time to escape labor industry in general ( I call retail, restaurant, warehouse, factory larbor, low pay and you deal with a lot of bs) into lab data entry ( sample processor )so I don't have to be treated like crap and get the standard 5 paid sick days off, 2 weeks paid vacation, paid holidays off while getting paid to process samples. 🙂

Back in 2006/7 I worked at Walmart as a stockman(pushing carts) one night a man came in telling everyone that would listen that the world was going to end in 24 hours. The dude had 3 carts full of food and I had to help him with the carts. The managers called the county sheriff’s office and had a car come in just in case the guy did something. The dude spent around $3k on food and I helped him load it in his truck. We weren’t supposed to take tips but the guy said we will be dead soon and drops a $100 bill on the ground so I took it. Never saw the guy again just an odd night.

I used to work retail during the pandemic and it was at the time when they just started requiring masks. I developed a hatred for anyone and everyone and a cynicism beyond belief because people were so incredibly rude and demeaning to me. I even wanted to end my … well, you know. I've never worked retail, but I have worked customer service/tech support over the phone. During the pandemic, one call type that skyrocketed was lonely old people who would call just for someone to talk to. Those calls were kind of hard to deal with because on on the one hand, its easy to empathize with a good person who's just lonely and feels like a prisoner in their own home due to the virus, but on the other hand, we were slammed with back to back calls and people who actually needed help were waiting 30+ minutes to get through, so we really didn't have the time to shoot the breeze with these folk.

I am still in retail. I already dealt with an anti-masker last week who said "Hey, nice mask!", and I said "Uh, thanks, it's a regular surgical mask.", then he asked me why I have it, and I say "Well, I'm coughing?" Then he tells me that when I get home, I should tear it open, look into a microscope, and see what's inside, and I say "Yeah, my germs." And then he went off.

I’m so glad that I don’t work in retail anymore. I used to work in a grocery store as a courtesy clerk and after working there for 4 months, I can understand why many people LOATHE working at retail and that they were telling the truth about it. Some people are nice and some people are just inconsiderate a holes. Thankfully, most of the customers that I helped out have been perfectly lovely and were very thankful for my service. However despite that, I was miserable working there and I felt like I didn’t really fit in this working environment at all because I’ve been a sign maker for 5+ years at this point so I was much more used to the working conditions at the sign shop where I didn’t have to worry about customer complaints and instead just make the signs.

I have nothing but literal love and respect for anyone that is working in the customer service field. Former cashier/refund worker here that has dealt with some of the most rude and nasty people this earth has to offer. Horrid insults and everything under the sun has been thrown my way because I can’t refund without receipt or magically extend their 10% off coupon an extra day beyond its expiration date. At the end of the day I still walked away with wonderful interaction skills. I’m a hell of a listener, I make eye contact, I smile, hearing what people have to say and nodding to their words to make them feel important, etc. Every time I go into a checkout late I always ask “how are you doing today?” It’s the little things than can brighten someone’s miserable day while also giving them the bush they need if they’re in a slump. There’s bad customer service workers as well as customers, but the rude customers far outweighs workers that gives bad service. That’s my take🎉 lol.

Your story of the guy practically living in the store reminds me of the time where there was this guy, who rode on those driveable electric carts the store provides. Escept he wasnt a normal customer using it, no he practically made that chair his home. He would drive it around the store for like 2-3 hours until it was basically dead and then hed hop on another one if it was available, luckily it was rare that another was available so hed be forced to leave because he wouldnt want to wait around for a while. The weirder part is he bought groceries...but they just sat in his basket for the whole time he was there, he would even buy a gallon of milk, and just drink it while looking around, parked on his scooter cart.

My got my first job at subway last year and quit after my first month. Working there is definitely a hassle especially when you're only working with only 2 other people, and it's probably a walk in the park compared to McDonald's, 8.50 an hour was not worth it.

At my store it's the workers who are weird aswell as the clients. We're all pretty sure that one of the workers is banging the milk bags in the fridge. We also had a guy who would not shut up about how communism was the greatest thing ever.

I once saw this video on my home page and it was about this furry in a Walgreens who was go around talking with people, nothing was wrong with it, but then he started hugging people and generally getting a little too touchy. A furry in a Walgreens isn’t a bad thing, the bad thing was him bothering employees and invading their privacy. I don’t care about furries, do what you want, but piece of advice to all the furries, for every hobby theirs a time and a place that is acceptable.

We had a lot of furries at college. I mean a lot of them. My mate once stepped on one of their tales in a crowded corridor by accident and she legit turned around and hissed at him. Freaking weirdos.

I'm from Germany and I'm glad we don't have to bag things here. But even though working in retail is absolute garbage. One time there were people who actually tried to scam me, but well... They weren't really smart and it was actually pretty funny to watch them trying to scam me. Even the old lady behind them realized it.

Retail and food workers deserve so much fucking respect for the shit they go through From the soul sucking job itself to the bunk managers loading you up with task while they take three separate hour long breaks but getting mad when you sit for a minute, and the nasty customers We really in the trenches
