Did you play scarlet/violet, they're destroying their selves. I mean performance issues totally aside, they thought it was okay to make a map that looked like it came out of Simpsons hit and run, hard edges of one biome into the other, straight edges in terrain, like if that's putting love and Japanese heritage into a game, it's fkn laughable. Any other issue like the lack of Pokemon actually getting around at any one time could be a limit of the hardware, but honestly doubtfully when other Dev teams have crammed some absolute monsters onto it. If a switch can run GTA V, it can do much more than what scarvi was asking of the tech. This is the reason why there are genres. Fighting games are similar, Fortnite, Apex Legends , PubG and more are battle royal games and are similar but I don't see anyone trying to cancel those games. I mean even if some designs are clearly parodies of existing Pokémon (like Lizpunk and Scraggy) the gameplay is almost completely different from anything Pokemon has made; the reason copyright law exists is to make sure the people who create something are the sole people profiting off of it. Therefore, the biggest barrier is whether or not this could be interpreted as a legitimate Pokemon product and whether or not this serves as a replacement for the Pokemon product (i.e. if someone makes a creature collection rpg with the same designs as pokemon and has roughly the same story and types of characters a pokemon game would use). No one thinks this game is actually a pokemon game, no one thinks Lizpunk IS Scraggy, no one who's seen the game for 5 seconds would think that "Well instead of playing pokemon I'm going to play this same game because they are going to be the same thing" I'm still going to play Scarlet and Violet because I like the gym leaders and quest system and the evolution system all; three things Palworld does not have. The reason I like Palworld is for completely different reason from why I like Pokemon, therefore it can't be seen as a replacement or infringement on their copyright

Some of them do look quite similar, but for the most part I'd just say there was some inspiration taken from pokémon which is OK. A lot of the pal designs are actually better than many of the designs made by game freak. Not everything is going to be a hit, no, not all pals are absolutely perfect designs, but neither are all pokémon perfect designs. Either way the game is fun, and in my opinion it's more fun than anything Pokémon has put out in recent years.

It's a handholding experience where exploring is punished until you collect 10 more useless monsters to unlock more dialogue and progress. Gamers become very sad characters when they turn from fans into fanatics. I've been a Pokemon fan from the very beginning. I bought one of the first available versions of Red and Blue and then bought pretty much every edition. (and no, I think the development of the series is terrible) But I immediately thought to myself “I know that from DQ”. Anyone who hates Palworld should also avoid Pokemon, but OH WAIT! Nobody cares about DQ. They're Poke fans... It's not about "similarities", but rather that someone does things better than the "sacred Pokemon". Are there many Pals that are reminiscent of Pokemon? Yep. But I actually find some of Palworld's designs much more appealing. However, many designs only show similarities because they cannot be done any other way. The sheep? What could be better than making it cute? And there aren't many options. I find the one from Palworld a lot more cute than the one from Pokemon. But you can also see from the reviews that "reason" is probably in short supply. Many rate the game poorly because of bugs... "no shit Sherlock, it's called early access..." For my part, I'm happy when my favorite genre "Monstercatching" gets capable offspring. Similarities or not, Palworld is fun.

There are a lot of similarities between Palworld monsters and Pokémon, but that doesn't mean certain designs are hands down copyrighted 😂 Like if a Pokémon wears a hat, it doesn't mean a monster wearing a hat is a copyright. I always thought there were already companies that tried doing their own "Pokémon" version games 😂 Ever since Digimon, and then again Pokémon kind of took inspiration from Dragon Quest. But in general, most of these companies are Japanese so therefore a lot of these designs are heavily inspired by their own culture.

Palworld is a refreshing game if im being honest my 2 older kids and myself are playing it, where as i only play pokemon so that just means that this game was destined to bring those who like survival shootems and monster collectors together. As for the Pokemon Company i gaurentee theyre playing this and taking down notes of what they can possibly do in the future and youd be kicking yourself if you thought wrong. Listen, I'll say it. I personally don't like a good portion of the designs of the Pals, some are cool and some are cute, but i don't vibe with a good chunk of them. Doesn't mean that i think the game is shit though, just my personal bias and I HAVE NOT EVEN PLAYED IT. But, these people saying that Palworld is 1 to 1 ripping off pokemon designs is absurd and they are just mad that another Monster Collector game is doing what PLA didn't, and is finding more success because of it. Most of the designs these people are bitching about take like one, maybe two, things that a pokemon has and everything else is different by a substantial degree. Grintale and G-Meowth are a good example of this shit. NO! Yellow eyes and a wide grin on a cat were not invented by pokemon. This has existed for decades in media, look up Cheshire Cat. I guess Pokemon stole the face from Cheshire Cat and just made it have sharp teeth HMMMMM?!?!?! These people are just salty that their beloved baby of a franchise, that THEY DON'T PLAY and would rather hack mons into, is getting compared to another game with success in a time where the latest game was released riddled and criticized of its performance issues. I've played pokemon for 18 years. I've seen it evolve (Pun intended) since first playing Red/Blue to now Scarlet/Violet. Hell, on White 2 I had the most hours on one save at the time for me being 580+ hours. Violet has shattered that currently at 763+ hours (this isn't included the plethora of hours spent as a kid beating then restarting gen 4 and prior games to get a "fresh start"). I don't even participate in online tournaments. I just love pokemon that much. IMO, a good portion of the community just has this jaded view that Pokemon is this "Progenitor of monster design" and if anything that comes out that happens to share a single design element of an existing pokemon, must be stolen from Pokemon. And to them I say, "It's not that deep. Get off your high horse. See the grander picture."

It is made in Japan, If Gamefreak felt like it infringed on any of their designs this game would have been buried alive with litigation. If Gamefreak doesn't care we shouldn't either. Anyway even the like designs are really just drawing simular inspiration. There are tons of games that have simular designs. Didn't Yokia Watch have a lot of designs that were simular, and it is basically a cult classic at this point. Gamefreak needs compition because that is the only way they will improve going forward.

It might be better on XS, not sure, but the Xone one is already versions behind PC so I don't know what their thoughts are on the subject but I agree in its current state, for console, not looking great. For PC however, i'm already totally in move over ark mode, with the way that games gone, asa and all the corruption, it's good to have an out and one i see many thousands of hours playing, pending updating and additions. With 3mil copies sold, they might have massive plans. It's early days and early access. Anything is possible.

Can't parody Star Wars without something that is clearly Darth Vader but you can't use the actual Darth Vader so you need to make enough changes so it's obviously different while keeping enough the same that what it is, is clear. I feel like Palworld is doing that, making things that are clearly Pokemon-ESQUE without copying exactly. I could see that Luxray being only 10% different.

It's Ark: Survival Evolved/Ascended with Pokemon-inspired animals that you can domesticate. It's Legends: Arceus, but a building survival game. It's Ark: Pokemon Survived or alternately, Arceus: Survival Evolved. It even has a touch of BotW. Inspiration is not stealing, copying, or cloning. I'm a HUGE fan of the Pokemon franchise, Red was my first in '98, been playing since. I am ashamed of the loud voices in the community right now. I loved Temtem, but I got burned out. Wouldn't have been so bad if I had been able to stably play with friends in the early days. Whenever I get the money for Palworld, I'm gonna play the crap out of it! I can see it was heavily inspired by Pokemon and not trying to bootleg it. I have tens of thousands of hours in Pokemon, almost 1000 in Ark. Only so few cause I didn't actually play it until a few months before the official servers shut down. Can't move on to Ascended and play with my friends cause currently no job, but I will one day! Those nearly 1000 hours were in just 4 months. Combine those two games? I'll never be seen again! I have also NEVER heard the dev's call Palworld a 'pokemon killer' or that they intend to try to take down Pokemon with it. Everyone in the pokemon community WANTS a pokemon mmo. Yet when something comes up that is similar enough it should work as a great substitute until an official Pokemon mmo comes out, that isn't fan-made and very potentially illegal, they tear it to shreds and throw it in the fire. Are you kidding me? Children should keep their mouths shut in certain situations, and this is one of them. Grow up! I understand there are actual children and minors in the community, that statement is not for them. But they aren't the ones complaining and hating. Maybe some teens, but I'm sure almost entirely butt-hurt adults.

I’ll admit that some design elements raise an eyebrow, but not to the point I care and I think people are just looking for outrage. I feel the like using “Grass” and “Ground” rather than a generic Plant or Earth typing in Palworld would hold more weight as a rip off argument. I’m also confused why temtem never got this kind of heat when it’s gameplay and structure are more derivative of Pokémon. I need to watch more of Verlis’s videos to see if I would enjoy Palworld. Also as a Monster Hunter fan, you didn’t see us whine in Gen 6 when Noivern looks so similar to Nargacuga with design elements from Yian Garuga.

I find it hard to believe that Pokémon would own the “Ground” type. Earth is a classic mystical element and the concept of Ground comes to us from electrical science. As for grass type, Magic The Gathering has forest mana and wood is another classical element. I don’t buy the argument that using ground and grass in combination would be a violation. That’s like arguing that using two musical notes on the scale a violation.

@@obits3 I guess I should have clarified better, my issue was not the use of those typings but rather the deliberate choice to use “Grass” and “Ground” as the words to describe them (mostly Grass). For Grass I would have preferred something like Wood, Plant, or Nature to further dissociate from Pokémon. Ground is ok for an Earth elemental descriptor, just somewhat to close for my liking and I would have preferred it be just be called Earth. Again, this not the biggest issue imo, I just think some different word choice would be better. A more blatant example would be if there was an “Air” element in Palworld and called it Flying type rather than Wind or Air. Add that on top of Grass and Ground, and this would be a bigger issue in my eyes

Look I’ve played a lot of monster catching games over the years. Many where inspired by Pokémon. I haft to say some of those palworld designs are pretty similar to Pokémon designs. I don’t think there direct rip offs but they are not original for sure. I haven’t played the game yet so who knows maybe these are cherry picked. I’m not going to lose sleep about it.
