The Marathwada region of Maharashtra has seen a huge number of farmer suicides in the past years. Most people believe that the frequent droughts and low rainfall is the culprit in this crisis. However, Sayantan Acharya says the data begs to differ. In this talk, Acharya unravels the mystery of these suicides and tries to address some of the issues that Marathwada faces. Sayantan Acharya is a documentary filmmaker and creator of the award-winning documentary “Geography of Drought: The Voices of Marathwada” in collaboration with a NAAM Foundation survey which sent people to various parts of Marathwada.
