Check out the movie The Fountain. Parallax is sort of based on it. Prospect 1 & 2 originated on the same planet, but they are from different times. P1 lived up until his suicide in the year 2011 (as an example). Then gets his mind and body transferred onto the new planet. How? Never explained. P2 lives on the old planet in the year 2111 (as an example, but this explains technology like interstellar travel). P2 goes on his mission, sleeps alot, plants the souls, heads back to the old planet but the idiot forgot that time is relative. Which means that for him time passed normal, but on the old planet hundreds of years passed (because travelling with the speed of light) and humans destroyed earth 1. He then goes insane and travels back to the new planet. Many many years later he arrives and he finds Prospect 1, abducts him and throws an asteroid between earth 2 and the sun, which throws off the earth of its path around the sun and incinerates it. The end.

Thanks so much for tackling this huge and complicated story, I've been waiting for the right opportunity to do a deep dive into the lore with someone. I'm also a relatively new fan but have been obsessing over their catalogue over the past year and spent a lot of time trying to make sense of this story. I appreciate your analysis of the tracks from Silent Circus and of Prequel to the Sequel as I've always struggled to interpret those ones and I think a lot of your analyses make good sense (e.g. with the clown symbolism, etc). One point of contention - I believe Tommy said (somewhere lol) that Prospect 2 was HIRED by the Night Owls to establish the new planet; I've never understood P2 to be a Night Owl himself, and given that he basically ends up going to war with the Night Owls on Parallax 2 (if I'm interpreting things correctly) and is informed (paraphrasing here) that they control everything and that attempts to interfere with them are futile, it suggests to me that Prospect 2 is being used as a pawn by the Night Owls rather than being one himself. I do believe Tommy has said (perhaps it was in the Parallax book) that one of the figures referenced in Lost Perfection (the one who talks too muck) IS Prospect 2, I'm just not sure that he is an actual Night Owl. I appreciate your idea about a third "moon planet" sort of between P1 and P2's respective home planets; I'd always thought about the story in terms of "Planet A" (where BOTH P1 and P2 originated from) and "Planet B" (the new planet where P2 is planting souls); I always thought they both started on Planet A (i.e. Earth), that P2 was planting souls on Planet B, and that, meanwhile, P1 managed to travel to Planet B via "Swimming to the Moon" and was washed up on an island on Planet B where he is eventually rescued and realizes he's no longer on his home planet; I figured Planet A had been disappeared somewhere along the line and when P2 tries to return to Planet A he finds it is gone and both Prospects eventually find themselves both on Planet B where the Parallax 2 story plays out. I think your interpretation makes more sense though, with P1 and P2 later meeting on a third "moon planet" as it does sound (via the lyrics on Parallax 2) that the planet where P1 and P2 is still under construction and somewhat desolate. This part has always been confusing to me, I don't have a great sense of the timeline of things. In Parallax 2, P1 ends up trying to live a normal life with a new love interest at a certain point, which makes me question how "desolate and in development" this planet really is - there are obviously people living there with sone amount of infrastructure in place. P1 MUST have washed ashore on a planet where there are people and development in order to be rescued, but he also does seem to later be on a desolate planet, so I like your interpretation. Very much looking forward to the Parallax 2 video!!! I have a theory about the Black Mask that I'm interested to discuss... I'll also need to check out your Coma Ecliptic video. Thanks again for doing this!!!

You very well could be right about P2 being hired by the night owls instead of being one himself. The explanation in the book says he is being hired by the secret government that is organized by the night owls. But by the way P2 was preset in the Lost Perfection songs, I just sort of imagined him being one of them and the scene taking place eons ago. Another commenter on this video said that P1 and P2 lived on different timelines hundreds of years a part, which could be true too but then it would require them to be sort of superhuman to be able to live that long and also travel between dimensions so I gave them the back story of being these primordial beings as night owls. Now, I doubt that's what the band intended, but I thought it made for a more cohesive plot. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! You're probably correct and I enjoyed your analysis.

One thing I think you may have missed is "the one who talks too much" I believe is supposed to be a baby who wouldn't stop crying. Hence why he doesn't really have memories from the Silent Circus songs. Also, I'm stoked I found this. I'm currently working on a Parallax inspired sleeve, so maybe your interpretation of these albums will help me find some inspiration for things to include.

I did come across the idea that he was a baby, but with everything in these albums there so much that makes you question. He definitely could’ve been a baby, I can’t remember but I think I didn’t include it because I found conflicting information. That sleeve sounds badass af! I have that Parallax 2 Album, got it at a live show and had it signed by Dan and Blake way back in the day. Then one of my dumbass room mates literally used it as a door stopper because I had left it out on living room table. And someone found it in front of my place on the sidewalk, rained on and fucked up the next day. I was absolutely devastated. My room mates and whoever their friends were said they didn't know who did it. I have a tattoo of the Telos owl because of how much this album meant to me at the time. Needless to say I wasn't on great terms with them after that. Anyways this album is amazing, this band is amazing. Their lyrics have the wonderful effect of putting out meaning that leaves it to the listener to interpret, which I feel creates the best range of imagination and wonder
