The sporty 1959 Park Lane 2-door hardtop was the bargain of the mercury line at $3,955, and with 345 HP & 480 ft. lbs. of torque it could scoot. 4,060 were delivered. Out of those 4,060, this may be one of the last in an unrestored condition. Ejoy!
1959 Mercury - General
1959 Mercurys once again shared a strong family resemblance with Fords, certainly from the front. The bumper-integrated grille of last year was replaced by a separate honeycomb grille and plain, wraparound bumper which contained the parking/signal lights.
The concave side body sculpturing now extended almost to the front fenders, stopping just under the new wraparound window's post. That wraparound windshield was larger and curved upward. Glass area size of the back window was also increased. The backlights on four-door and two-door hardtop models curved upwards. Four-door and two-door sedans had a unique roof line and a large wraparound rear window.
The Medalist series was discontinued, and the Monterey models now occupied this position in the line, including now utilizing the venerable 312 CID V8, with the 383 in two or 4-barrel trim optional. The Montclair was now the bridge between the Monterey and the exclusive and luxurious Park Lane. The Turnpike Cruiser line previously found in the Montclair line was also discontinued with most of the features moved into the Park Lane line.
Wheelbases again stretched with the Monterey and Montclair now at 126.0 inches and the Park Lane up to 128.0 inches. The Montclair now was the sole user of the 383 MEL V8 as standard equipment, with a 345 HP version of the 430 available. The Park Lane continued with the 430 CID MEL version in 345 HP standard or 360 HP optional. 69.7 percent of all Mercurys came with power steering, 47.2 percent had tinted glass and 52.5 percent had power brakes.
Mercury production for 1959 rose slightly from 133,271 in the previous year to 150,030 with increases in all lines, even when the Medalist/Monterey lines were combined, from 81,044 to 89,277.
1959 Mercury Park Lane
Significant styling distinctions of the Park Lane were chrome-plated projectiles on the rear fender coves, full-length lower body moldings, large aluminum gravel guards on the lower rear quarter panels, bright roof moldings and front fender (instead of hood) ornaments. "PARK Lane" was displayed with the "Park" in Block letters and the "Lane" in script. The rear panel trim was the same as on the Montclair. The Park Lane convertible had a plastic wraparound rear window.
Park Lanes came equipped with the same items as Montclairs, plus power steering, power self-adjusting brakes, dual exhaust, backup lights, rear center arm rest and rear cigarette lighter.

Just to stir the pot, I think the '57's were prettier 'specially the Turnpike Cruiser. But in the end tomatoes tomahtoes you can't go wrong with either one. The '58's? Not so much.

Very rare car. There were very few around here in Winnipeg when new for some reason. Plenty of 57 and 58s then 1961 and up however 59 and 60s were scarce as hens teeth. Nice original example. Nice fully restored but better this way. Excellent video presentation as usual.

I know you want it to look like the survivor it is, but at least take a chamois to it to get the dried water drops off it.

Beautiful example of Mercury at the pinnacle of magnificent 50s OTT excessive luxury ✨. Parents had friends who had one almost like this, but seem to recall it had special trim on rear upper roof and badged as TURNPIKE CRUISER? 🤔. Have had several GRAND MARQUIS and TOWN CARS. All great cars! 🏆. SO sad Ford killed them both! Will drive my 2007 Signature Limited as long as I can. 🏆. 💖

Some elderly friends of mine who have since passed on, had a 2003 Grand Marquee Ultimate Edition. When the husband went into an adult family home, I became a daytime home companion to the wife, which included driving her around in that car for two years (before she went into assisted-living). That thing was a dream to drive!

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too damned many white cars were built, and not enough blacks. No color befits the stately elegance of this car better than Tuxedo Black. LEAVE IT ALONE.

@@lancasterritzyescargotdine2602if you live in Phoenix Arizona you don't want black 25° hotter than white, black also shows more imperfections a nice metallic pearl white or like yellow

@@BusterTucker I grew up around white cars. They SUCK... all the thousands of them. White is a non-color. Black cars only show imperfections on those owned by people who don't know how to take care of them. Metallics oxidize and turn to dull sandpaper. Silver is the new white: all the trash coming off today's assembly lines is gray, silver, beige, white or other uninspiring colors, preferred by people who lack adventure and imagination. It's no wonder kids today have no interest in cars. Besides, metallic white didn't exist in 1959, so that would be as lame as pouring chocolate syrup on sauerkraut.
