I saw this movie as a child and this scene always makes me sent chills and now i recently discover that scene is a metaphor that Miyazaki created with the nuclear mushroom clouds in the WW2. He did it to give a nice message to that image that it was scary for Japan at that times. How beautifull

I don’t know why, but every time I hear this song, I imagine walking up a green grassy hill overlooking the city on a starry night and just crying my eyes out. I mean like sobbing and wailing, enough to leave you feeling empty when you eventually walk away or fall asleep on the grass, as a cool breeze breathes life into the warm summer night. And as I write this, my eyes get a little watery too.

The first time I saw this, was with my former foreign exchange student from Belgium, and his four friends, on Blu-Ray at home, last year... ...I just got back from tonight's Ghibli Fest showing, and I found that I had cried in different places than the first time I saw the film, but there was less bitter with the greater sweet that I enjoyed (but two hours later now, I still feel tears in my eyes, thinking of this sequence)...

Definitely the original version. It honestly feels strange to have this composition in a drama comedy anime about a fluffy spirit. This is the kind of track one expects in a more action and adventure oriented movie.
