It's crazy how the difficulty curve develops. I also did this in one sitting. The first zones take no more than 10 or 15 minutes each. Something you didn't mention (or atleast emphasize enough) is that Mt. Battle actually gives experience, something that no other battle tower facility does. This is my favorite solution to the experience problem, a dedicated location where you can train against pokemon ranging in level from 10 to 70. Granted you can't EV train but that isn't really needed or possible in these games. I have barely touched emerald's batrle frontier because it takes so much effort just to get 1 pokemon to a reasonable level for it and the best training i can thibk of is either kill the E4 a million times or have a team of 5 or 6 pickup pokemon and try to farm rare candies. And as a kid i had no interest in either, and even now i don't have the time for this level of team building. Also in Mt. Battle you will face some very well made teams including a rain team that spams thunder and hydropump. (This wrecked my overleveled claydol, and frustrated me that thunder kept hitting. Now i actually know how it works and it isn't so bad.)

In 2006 they did the FIRST EVER VGC tournament, double battling, in America. It was called the JAA, Journey Across America, and my best friend who became my foster brother and much more and I were both 11, at the first stop, Miami, only 4 days before his 12th birthday and 19 days before mine, and it was split into under 12 and 12+ so we DOMINATED the like 7 year olds on Colloseum but my pokemon were SO HACKED i literally used a Tyrantitar with Fly and almost got caught, but I just didn't use hacked moves on my team in the final. My brother, then just some kid, won against me but we both got limited edition Pokémon Theme Gameboy micros that were NEVER sold in the US, so they're the rarest pokemon merch in existence today in my belief, and he got a trip for 4 to New York to play in the first nationals, but being 12 he'd be in the 12+. He took me, his dad and my mom. It was the coolest thing and we are still best friends, but we played on Colloseum which at the time I had played but not used in that way, and it was just so... epic to see our pokemon on big TVs in 3D in front of an audience and with a narrator

If you're looking for a modernized version, there's a romhack of XD called XG, or Next Gen. Adds in fairy types, physical/special split, totally maxes out the number of Shadow Mon available to be nearly 150, new moves and items up to gen 7, totally new Shadow moves, upped the wild Pokemon count from 9 to 72. Just so much QOL stuff. TMs don't break, the move relearner at Mt Battle can teach egg moves, Shadow Pokemon that get purified get unique moves they can't normally get. And it's a fair bit more difficult, with Admins and late-game Peons using real strategies. I have my doubts we'll get proper remakes of these games, so this is a really cool way to play them again, more modernized, without being a total remake. Check it out if you're able to!

Something I love about Mt. Battle is its continue system. Luck is definitely a factor in battles, and as someone who’s currently completing the Ribbon Master challenge, I’ve had my fair share of close scrapes and outright losses due to OHKO moves and other RNG happenings in post game challenge modes like the Battle Tower. While Mt. Battle’s continue system is decidedly lenient-I had 94 continues by the time I completed it-I would certainly enjoy seeing a new, less broken version of the continue system implemented as a reward for skillful battling that could help steel the player against unlucky happenings later on in a challenge.
@Nyzer_ Жыл бұрын
I think there are definitely flaws in Mt. Battle, but overall, I have to agree - it's just such a useful facility with a lot of good features, and the option to use legendaries to blitz through it, just with fewer BP rewarded as a result, makes for a good way to actually include them in one of the games' optional challenges. Something else I always liked about it is that it also served as a useful grinding location in the games, and Colosseum specifically is designed with the expectation that you'll periodically return to it and make use of it. The added reward of BP for the battles makes it feel a lot more engaging than just rebattling trainers in other locations, or even going through the Colosseums. The Battle Frontier may indeed be a more fleshed out postgame challenge, but it's got such a high barrier to proper entry at a time when the games lacked proper Mon optimization (like being able to see/target IVs, ease of leveling, etc.), it ends up not being something that fans can just get their feet wet in. Even the idea of it having useful rewards isn't exactly well-designed, given how high the barrier to a successful entry already is. They can help, but if you're at the point where you're able to accumulate that many points, you likely have next to no need of those moves or items. Mt. Battle's rewards, on the other hand, are specifically designed to help players both during the game and after beating it. It's a shame that they can't quite manage to cover the gap between Mt. Battle and the Orre Colosseum or Battle Frontier, but I know I still made great use of them during the early Gen 3 days in order to get TMs & equipment and level Mons up.

so fun fact-- you only need to have every pokemon purified in Colo *by the time you complete 100 battles*, but they don't need to be purified before you start (unless you wanted to use one for the run) i found this out by accident a month ago, and it turns out that mt. battle is not as hard as it once seemed now that I know how to utilize status moves. Even with noctowl and misdreavus in my team. (and starting back up halfway thru a pre-existing challenge) but yeah! you just need to have everyone purified before you hit the final battle. They don't need to be purified before you start, just before you win the 100th round!

My only criticism of Mt Battle is that it gives you access to the first 3 areas from the start, but wont allow you to continue your challenge if you dont take down all three of them first. The 3rd area will likely be at an appropriate level for your team when you first show up, the first and second ones are VERY under leveled and end up just taking up a ton of the already long climb for no reason. If I was given the ability to change it, I wouldn't give access to all three areas from the start and risk the player only finding out that the last 20 minutes of hiking up area 3 meant nothing.

In Battle Mode only the last 3 battles offer any challenge, and any fear of losing is gone when you've saved up so many continues from the previous battles. I much prefer the Colosseum Battle mode where you're up against only 8 trainers but they have more well-thought-out and memorable teams with Pokémon such as Follow Me Togetic and Imprison Dusclops. It's more quality over quantity. Plus it has those amazing RSE battle remixes you don't get to hear too often!

check out the rom hacks Grand Colosseum and XG:Next Gen. They implemented the split as well as the fairy type. Grand Colosseum imo is the inferior hack because it still only has 48 shadow pokemon so, while your teambuilding options are significantly better, they are still limited. XG has waaaaay more shadow pokemon and wild pokemon in the poke spots. they do get hard because the npcs will have max IVs and EVs, but they add spots for EV grinding
