Kalin basically getting into depression is honestly realistic for me, imagine this: You hated once your best friend only to realize you only misunderstood them and killed innocents in madness for essentially nothing and then you were brought back racked with guilt of the pain you made others suffer and even by association helping almost enslave souls and for me, Kalin has one of the best developments in the show
@pk_tuneworld5 ай бұрын
Oh, I don't doubt for one second that it's realistic. Too many people would feel the same way Kalin did - you've mentioned the various reasons why. So, when he ends up slowly overcoming the depression, it feels cathartic. Definitely one of the better developments in the show amidst some of the other mistreated characters (RIP CARLY SMH)

Or do you actually want to strike up a reasonable conversation about a fun show and game. I've had a few of these conversations on Twitter literally the other day, everyone will be vibing talking about what they liked and how Konami and whatever studio that handles the anime be messing it up. Never played the DS games sadly, but that's really cool! It's amazing when they let you sort of experience places from the show beyond just dueling on boards that vaguely resemble them.
@RogerVenn5 ай бұрын
I’d never seen the arc in the anime, but in the 2011 NDS game the MC is from Crash Town and that location takes some of the main focus of the game. I always loved the duel disk guns, and the cowboy music. Made the player feel so badass. Especially if you shot all the cards to go first (there was a QuickDraw mechanic for crash style duels where you had to perform button prompts in quick succession).
@dudono17445 ай бұрын
Tbh, Lotten being the FTK guy is interesting. Lotten isn't trying to duel fairly, he sees dueling as a means to an end. And I think that FTKs are the best way to show that, since you don't need to care about your opponent (unless they have handtraps). Closest we got to that is one of the security AI in Vrains running handrip turbo against Playmaker, which is a pseudo FTK.
@pk_tuneworld5 ай бұрын
I agree that having an FTK-playing character is interesting. Lotten is still a cool character, don't get me wrong. It's less of that and more of the wish for him to have better motivation to be thinking like "dueling is a means to an end". E.g. maybe he was raised to not associate dueling with being casual or having fun. Though I'm definitely sort of nick-picking.

Agreed! Like, it's crazy how this show can treat some of the most absurd situations with a level a depth and seriousness that pushes at real themes. @@pk_tuneworld It definitely is held back by the fact that, in the end, it's still a "Children's card game" much like the other Cartoons that were airing at the time who's 1st season was a hodgepodge of silliness before they were injected with straight GAS (Adventure Time, Regular Show, The Amazing World of Gumball) . I hope that with the reboot of the game with Rush duels and the anime cinematic for Yugioh that Konami pushed out, that maybe they can learn to let the writers go absolutely ham on a more "grown up and serious" version of the show (I mean let's be honest we've all settled with the fact that the world is a card economy driven based one where your conflicts must be resolved with a duel) while letting the kids have fun with Go Rush. Speaking of straight gas btw your thumbnail work is crazy good, gonna be binging all of your videos the next shift at work :)

Crash Town is one of the reasons the 2011 World Championship game is my favorite. Also for the people curious on some of the movie references that Crash Town is based on (going off the ones i recognized.) For a Fistful of Dollars (Biggest Inspiration to the point it feels like rewatching some of the movie, the two gangs names, Yusei's poncho, him taking down three men to prove himself, etc.) Once Upon a Time in the West (Kalin's Harmonia mainly, along with as the video said, the fight for land.) Django 1966 (Some of Kalin's outfit, Lawton's main monster using a gatling gun, along with the grave yard scene where Kalin decides what he's gonna do.) Of course I recommend all of these movies. At locals when I run Infernity we do a intro walk for fun where I play a harmonica as I walk to the table. The annoying part is though that Kalin's theme in the Japanese version is actually a Accordion, not a harmonica. The dub actually uses a harmonica for it's tune. I usually just play Man with a harmonica as my intro since I'm not a big fan of the dubs and I still haven't found a way to replicate the Japanese's version.

Yeah, Kalin truly becomes such a cool character by the end of the arc. I like your theory, by the way! The two definitely have plenty of similar characteristics - bat wings, emphasis on multiple eyes, their demonic looks. Both 3k bodies. It would make a ton of sense given Shooting Star and Quasar are demonstrations of Yusei's growing mental fortitude and bond with his friends throughout the series. Or how Red Nova Dragon is sort of a mesh of Jack's innate drive for power combined with his later learned appreciation for more methodical, careful dueling.

Hence the "supposedly" in the intro (though I do forget that word in the conclusion). I haven't meshed the archetype with the new Fiend stuff, so it's possible those cards give it a big push. Also the deck has starter issues. Honestly, the deck just needs a good boss monster, more starters and ways to play through handtraps.
