Definitely has some great tones. The price however puts it in the range of used Peavey tube amps.

I would love to step on it, but I’m afraid this pedal will end up on the shelf with my other distortion pedals.

Doesn't sound like this pedal is for you then, and that's ok!

How is this different from the 5150 overdrive pedal?
@longandmcquade3 ай бұрын
The MXR 5150 is an overdrive pedal, whereas this is a 5150 amp simulator pedal with different channel, cabinet, speaker and microphone combinations. You can't save a preset on the MXR or switch between two tones like on the ANTI, and the MXR doesn't have 3 channels and 6 cabinets to choose from and don't have control over the original 5150 amp controls like this does.

So would this just blow the socks off the EVH overdrive pedal or ?
@scottshepherd13653 ай бұрын
Uhh you should be using the UA lion with the brown sound setting for EVH sounds
@longandmcquade3 ай бұрын
You could get EVH tones from the UA Lion. Admittedly, we were misguided and we missed the mark on this demo, as it's actually intended for more modern high-gain tones from bands like Slipknot, Arch Enemy, The Black Dahlia Murder etc. That's the tone this pedal is designed to do, which you wouldn't get out of the UA Lion.

$399? You can get the real thing in the 5150 or the 6505 mini head for around that price

Jack of all trades, master of none. Great product but it's very much a case of "close but not quite" if you want very specific and accurate digital representation of analog circuits.

@@FastRedPonyCar With ToneX it depends a lot on the person that did the capture of the amp, there are some great ones and many not so great.

@@Pulse2AM That was very much my experience with the Kemper. I bought mine way back right when it was first released (11 or 12 years ago?? OOF time flies) and for the longest time, EVERYONE'S profiles were absolute trash, even most of the factory ones. It forced me to really up my recording game and I ended up enlisting the help of Andy Jackson of Hot Rod Circuit who ran a recording studio at the time and we dialed in a few things and I ended up with some really good (in my opinion) kemper profiles of my Splawn. Now that the Kemper is a really mature product, there are a lot of really great sounding profiles. The tone x benefited from all the bedroom rockers having over a decades worth of recording tech and DAW's coming down in price and being easier to use 😅

@@FastRedPonyCar I'm using ToneX inside Amplitube 5, I can mix and match plus use all of Amplitubes effects so I made some really good patches. I wish the ToneX pedal supported Amplitube rigs, that would be sweet. Kemper is too expensive for me but their new pedal is not out of reach.

So this can't be used with an actual amp? Why would I pay $400 dollars for a computer toy
@longandmcquade5 ай бұрын
It can be used with an actual amp, but the primary design of this product is to replace your amp. If you want to run it into an amp, you can use the 4-cable method (run it into your FX loop to avoid doubling up on the preamp) and turn off any cab simulation. ANY modern product with DSP could be scoffed at as a "computer toy" if one was cynical enough.

Yeah, either I don't have an ear for high gain stuff, or it might be more obvious in person how different the settings and cab selections make the sound

Just like a real 5150. Accuracy with warts and all is very much the UAFX ethos when designing these amp in a box pedals.

These kinds of settings often change the feeling of playing. Guitar response and the vibe in the room. Not big differences it seems though

No offence but what sells all these units .are good players. Not 5 year old basic power chords. I mean really think about it.
