Thanks so much for this. I was fortunate enough to see the show on Broadway, and, yes, the reveal of the set was amazing. I was almost in tears from happiness. The way the set reveal builds up from the ground with the lighting and then lights up to show the familiar playhouse, it was like being thrown back into a happy, almost-forgotten, familiar place. It was such a great show, and I'm so sorry that Paul passed away too soon, but he put his heart and soul into everything he did, and we're lucky to have had him in our lives.

The most amazing thing about this show was that it comprised almost _the entire_ Playhouse set but compressed it into a neat, elegant proscenium. There is _no_ wasted space.

When I first saw this special my husband was looking at me like I was a nutter cause I was talking back to the screen and had tears rolling down my face. Yeah, the set reveal was absolutely stunning, almost as if a child was drawing the shapes with a crayon. And though I love the original production of The Pee-Wee Herman show, choosing to integrate the Playhouse and it's characters from our Saturday mornings was genius. Without it, I daresay it would have missed out on what was most magical to so many of us that drove our parents insane with the Secret Word. Best example: see how the audience reacts to Chairry.

The pee wee stage is iconic. The transformer sound is iconic, the ghostbusters are iconic. Dont mess with perfection. Paul Ruebens is now among our living legends. The last of their kind, true creative geniuses who worked hard and built a legacy from the ground up. Paul deserves thel ifetime achievement award.

I watched this on HBO. It was definetly good, but it didn't really feel like a kids show for adults. It just felt like a typical kids show. In fact, the best part was how on-board the audience was with saying all the ridiculous stuff!

"Boys and girls" doesn't always mean LITTLE kids...but they DID do a watered-down (albeit untaped version) with kids in the audience. A lot of references to LGBTQIA+ "marriage" (really teo people playing house and trampling on God's Word) and sexual activity was taken out in this version.
