I studied animal care, and the whole thing about foreplay made me think of an incident from my Advanced Breeding class: we had been prepping female mice to breed by giving them bedding from males to get them all hot and bothered. After lifting their tails and transferring the most receptive ones, 5 of the virgin males immediately got to work. The 6th sniffed the female's rear end, and then started to groom her. Needless to say the women in the room declared they liked that mouse the best.

A vacationing penguin is driving his car through Arizona when he notices that the oil pressure light is on. He gets out to look and sees oil dripping out of the motor. He drives to the nearest town and stops at the first gas station. After dropping the car off, the penguin goes for a walk around town. He sees an ice-cream shop and, being a penguin in Arizona, decides that something cold would really hit the spot. He gets a big dish of ice cream and sits down to eat. Having no hands he makes a real mess trying to eat with his flippers. After finishing his ice cream, he goes back to the gas station and asks the mechanic if he's found the problem. The mechanic looks up and says "It looks like you blew a seal." "No no," the penguin replies, "it's just ice cream."

It's interesting because it's not a trait that would be selected for. Evolution largely happens when a mutation is effective at A.) Providing offspring reliably or B) letting the animal survive long enough to have offspring. Those mutations to counter the rape are directly opposed to the first goal, so the more effective the mutation is at preventing rape the less likely it lasts to become evolution.

It isn't about preventing preventing offspring, it is about choosing who to have offspring with. They can also make sure to choose times that optimize survival of their offspring since they can decided not only who but when to have offspring
