James Gunn literally said that the most important thing he did on Penguin was stay out of the way of Reeves. The idea that he’s trying to take credit is preposterous. Of course he’s going to label it as a DC Studios production because it technically is. A studio that acquires a movie and puts it under their studio banner is not “trying to take credit from the director.” These conspiracy theories are just silly.

Gunn isn’t taking credit for it being part of the DCU. Gunn said Penguin and Super/Man were a good start for DC Studios. They were the first things made that they hadn’t inherited from the old regime. Whether they did a lot or a little, it was made under the DC Studios banner and they’re not in the wrong to take a little credit for it and be proud of it.

My taste in the KZbin shows I consume has changed to where I don't keep up with movie news, reviews, etc. very much anymore (plus, I've never been big on reaction videos; I don't get 'em, but to each their own). Which means I don't watch the Kristian Harloff channel as regularly as I used to. But, I ALWAYS watch these episodes each week. Roxy is just enjoyable. Even when I have stopped wanting to listen to people giving their takes on movies, shows, and franchises, the Kristian-Roxy duo makes for simply the most enjoyable conversations in this genre of podcasts. Period. Roxy, you're doing great, and anybody who is griping about you is whining to whine, and that's not worth your attention. Keep kickin' butt.

Based on that description, it sounds like that Gotham PD series would've been just like the Gotham one on Fox a few years back. Only the Max one wouldn't have had any of the familiar characters we know. I think it was a good call not to move forward with it. Like Roxy, I was a huge fan of the Fox one too. As for the I know What You Did Last Summer sequel, I'm glad Freddie Prinze Jr is coming back. I hope you're wrong about his character being killed off, though. That would really suck. I hope Jennifer Love Hewitt comes back too. I'm very curious what the storyline will be for this one. Also, Sinners looks awesome. That teaser did a great job of getting us excited without giving away too much. I'm not typically a fan of the 1920s setting, but it seems necessary given the plot. As for Roxy's TV picks, I'm already watching The Old Man and The Penguin, so I'm all set there. I'm planning to watch Tulsa King and Agatha, but I need to log myself back into Paramount+ and Disney+. I got bumped off them for some reason. I'm saving Bad Monkey for next summer since it has that kind of feel to it. I think it'd be more fun to watch during that time of year. And I don't know what the hell that guy is talking about when he says there's no funny millennial comedians. Is he fucking serious? That's a very absurd take. Also, Gen Z pointing out problematic things in older movies doesn't mean they don't enjoy them or are trying to get them banned. They're simply pointing out that certain things in them wouldn't fly today and they're not wrong. It's also not just Gen Z either. Besides, it's only a very small number of them a making a big deal about it. There always been and always will be people who get overly offended by every little thing. It's not specific to one generation.

I do get the whole OCD “why are you watching Logan first?” crowd. I don’t think it would have the same resonance at all. Not that you wouldn’t cry but it wouldn’t be the same with the 2 decades of history. I’d find it “wrong” to start a book series with book 4 or if you watched a show out of order. However you guys were watching it with an “aw, fuck it” attitude. And the film totally does work on its own. Anyway, you’re mainly watching it as homework for a comedy movie right? So who cares? Ultimately, those people are frustrated because they want you to have the best experience. It comes from a place of love.
@hamishmurison3764Ай бұрын
I get where you're coming from, but a person shouldn't have to watch numerous films for emotional resonance in 1 film, the director/producer/film studio can't expect everyone in the audience to have watched and know everything.
@DanUnderwood-v7mАй бұрын
@@hamishmurison3764 well, that’s why I said Logan works on its own. However this can be excepted. It’s called a series. You can’t watch return of the king or deathly hallows part 2 or dune part 2 or endgame without the previous films. They continue unapologetically with the expectation that you know what’s happening. A studio very much can expect you to have seen the previous ones otherwise I’d argue the films can’t be truly criticized in the way they’re intended. And if there is an intended way to consume some things then that implies a right and wrong way to do so. (Logan isnt necessarily one of these films but how could you even start to enjoy Endgame?)
@hamishmurison3764Ай бұрын
@@DanUnderwood-v7myou're right, butI personally believe there's a fine line between the 2. Movies need to make money at the end of the day and you want as many people watching as possible, the movie doesn't have to stand on its own but it needs to make sense in a coherent way that the viewer can understand. (Perhaps the motives of characters, and the story/plot, acting, directing etc.)
@DanUnderwood-v7mАй бұрын
@@hamishmurison3764 I definitely agree with you. The good thing is most movies aren’t Avengers: Endgame so they do operate well alone. A lot of my family has seen Logan without the other X-men films. I don’t think my mom needs to see x2 or origins to enjoy what that film presents as a story. There’s definitely a fine line like you say. Especially if someone isn’t a total nerd about this stuff.

Can you say that something is a major hit based on just viewership numbers on one single episode? Rings of Power started strong but then it dipped downwards over time. House of the Dragon had a strong season 1 but it still experienced decline in viewership numbers. Penguin is based on a well known franchise so people are curious. I wouldnt personally pronounce it a major hit until after seeing how the viewership goes after few more episodes.
@jmorgan3977Ай бұрын
Depending on how season 1 ends, I don't think I want or see a need for a season 2 of The Penguin. It could easily be a miniseries bridging The Batman and The Batman Part II. Penguin will likely be a character in that film, so why do we need more solo content running along the Batman sequels? Just my thoughts after onle one episode of season 1. Ask me again later. As for if Batman will show up? I highly doubt it. DC has had a no Batman on TV rule for a while now, whatever their reasons. So at most, a Bruce Wayne cameo. But I would bet a Gordon cameo would be more likely, if any familiar face is gonna show up.

@EleventhCubFanАй бұрын
To answer your question about why people like reaction videos, for me it’s a way to rewatch the show/movie. Most movies don’t hold up well on rewatch for me, so I’ll watch the reaction to it instead if one pops up in my subscription feed. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t either play on their phone or gets up and goes to the bathroom when I watch a movie with them. That’s always annoying to me and why I like watchalongs so much. I enjoy the reactor’s commentary on a movie and I’m interested in their review of it at the end of the reaction.
