Raspberry jelly or jam is is one of my two favorites. Where I live in Delaware they make beach plum jelly. I used to sell it in my store. I hid half the stock for me so I’d have enough and sold the rest. I had this nice old lady that it always made jams and jellies and so she started making them for my store. I fell in love with them she made raspberry Pepper to I miss those days, but I hope to be out on the road with you guys in the next year or two if you’re ever in Delaware hit me up. I have a long driveway not real long. I live in a cul-de-sac but it’s long enough to put your home in and hook up to the electric in the water have a couple days to hit the beach here even if I’m not home I don’t care. I just tell my neighbors so they can look out for you.

When I got to West Michigan farmland in the late 90s, the first thing I noticed was how neat, clean and tidy every piece of land was. People really take pride in their homes and businesses. But they also made it crystal clear - "if you ain't Dutch, you ain't much". Meaning no long how you stay there or how involved you get in the community or how much you contribute, you will always be an outsider. They also really didn't appreciate progressive/liberal views and some are far less tolerant than others. Something to keep in mind when becoming enthralled with new places and people.
@PrincessofErised3 жыл бұрын
Yup, I get it, small-town life.... they all grew up together, married each other, and don't trust outsiders because they love their towns and don't want them to change. Oddly, the "outsider" phenomenon is only if you stay and never leave. Live there for a while, leave for a while and then come back and it is old home week. You essentially made yourself a part of their past, which they revere. So when they see you again, they "remember you". lol I know it sounds nuts, but I have done it in real life (as an army brat) and it worked like a charm.

Excellent information about the women! I was one of the first five women that worked at the Delco Battery facility in Anaheim CA. Around 1970 or so. Just five of us. One of the women they treated awful. Like what you said they went through. Stuff on her locker and nasty comments. I was threatened to be thrown in the coal bin if I said anything about not getting to work Saturdays for overtime. Only the men could. We all went through some very disgusting things working with the 1700 men that worked there. It’s a long story but let me tell you it was memorable experience. The movie Norma Ray reminded me of my time there.
@carolynhoover94443 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I remembered the events and how long it took but this was a step necessary to show women can work and should, if they desire . Young women take it for granted today. They don't realize a short 100 years ago, things were different . I was born 1949.

You're not the only one Carolyn, I thought that as you were telling the story, but never would suspect you of any evils or dangers, I was just thinking of how friendly and close that boy was to you and luckily you're a good stranger, my brother and I had to run from male stranger trying to pick us up when we were 6 and 7, but because we were told not to talk to strangers ect.... I grabbed my little brothers hand and ran as fast as we could go, then because I showed him that before we moved to another location, he was by himself walking and some man tried to get him into his vehicle and so he ran again as fast as he could into our home, he thanked me a few years back for saving his life, twice! So I worry also about all young and friendly children, so I feel the same way you do and I'm always praying for all babies and children! Thank you for sharing! Be safe and we'll! Much love to you and Sadie! See you next time!😃❤👍

I was born 1949. I lived that time. Thank you for relating the true story of the women who worked hard . That roadside conglomeration at minute 32 in the video is a work in progress by a local state senator who is building it to relieve stress and get some exercise. I came across it and researched it in September 2020. And you're right about no place to boondock on the north shore of Superior, although the Grand Portage Marina and RV Campground at the Grand Portage Casino was reasonable. And its campsites are on a hillside overlooking the lake.

FYI, some cities/towns have PostNet stores, they're pack & ship + printing retailers. So, if you're in pinch to receive your mail they accept USPS, FedEx & UPS. You don't have to be a box holder just let them know your stuff is coming & they'll hold it for you. There may be a nominal fee but they're generally pretty accommodating folks.

Thanks Carolyn, I enjoyed the video of the Arrowhead of Minnesota. I’m native from north central Wisconsin. Our Dad so loved the north woods, he took us camping as a family throughout northern Wis and well up into the Arrowhead country of MN….and circled Lake Superior. Loved Gran Marais, MN. We were there when they still had the logs floats moored there before they floated them down the rivers to the paper plants in Wisconsin. I harvested a short piece of Diamond Willow for a walking stick and still use it some 50 years later on trails throughout TX and NM. Take care and happy trails, give Sadie at least a pat from me. There were definitely men's jobs, women's jobs and Black jobs.When I went to pharmacy school most of the male professors thought we were taking jobs from men. There were 40 male professors and 3 female. I was never treated as awful as those women at that mine. I cried in the movie

I’m happy you are enjoying our state. I think it gets overlooked as a destination outside the Midwest. There is so much beauty and things to do all year round. Also, I’m a huge state park supporter and user. My family and I visited every state park and earned a plaque from the parks’s passport program. Next visit, I highly recommend you purchase the annual pass. There are over 70 state parks in the state and I think you would enjoy visiting more of them even for the day. Although the parks on the north shore are amazing, we have many around the state that are fantastic (Maplewood in NW, Blue Mounds in SW, Whitewater in SE). September and October are great months to visit. Less bugs and cooler temps. Actually, I prefer our parks more Sept-May then in the summer! Looking forward to the next video. I live in S Minneapolis.
