I drove it 1200 miles home and while it ran really well at part throttle and full throttle it was crazy rich and didn't have the proper intake ring sound that they are supposed to have when the VE is correct.
So we put it on a Link Monsoon ECU with a harness and base map from Panic Wire. While we were in there we also popped on a set of NST pulleys and alternator tensioner to help free up some power and make the bay look sweet. Check the video out to see how it does!

You have changed how I look at drifting, when I first started snooping around and doing some research of course the high power stuff caught my eye. But I know from past experience in motor sports, maybe I could build it but I could never afford to run it! So now I'm paying attention to your approach. I'm still not sure if I can get used to the small cars stuff, but but I'm negotiating with my ego? only time will tell.

You have to tune your VVT engagement point. Do 2 Dyno runs, 1 with it turned off, and 1 with it turned on, then overlay your maps and the RPM point at where your 2 torque curves intersect is when you want your VVT to turn on

We did this, as well as moving injection timing around. It’s like vanos, tuning it properly wakes the motor up a lot. I think we’re on at 2650 and 63% throttle.

It sounds great, and very interesting to see how close the 1.6L Toyota engine matched the 1.6L Mazda engine. Are you really running 0.90 Lambda (13.2 AFR)? Does it make much more power than 0.88 or 0.85 Lambda? I was taught that 0.90 is significantly less safety margin on (California 91 octane) pump gas without much of a power benefit, but that was 10+ years ago and you probably know a lot more tuners and engine guys than I do.

Love me an AE86 but it's not even fair to compare them to Miatas. On first glance that might seem silly but with front struts and a solid rear axle, they're hardly in the same league. Driving them back to back really highlights the difference, and with more power the differences are amplified. Drifting is a different story. I'll have me a roof any day lol

Why don't people put gauges under their Hood? They would come in handy if you're working under the hood. At least the RPM, temperature, oil preeure.
@scotty305
@scotty305 2 жыл бұрын
Some people do, that's an old-school hot rodder trick. But the driver can't look under the hood while driving so it's more useful for most people to have an ECU that can save datalogs. Big budget teams have the ECU broadcast data to the pits using a radio, so the engineers and crew can know what's happening in real-time. For the rest of us, most modern ECUs have protection features to keep the engine from completely grenading itself if things get out of hand, for instance the Link ECU in this car can probably set the rev limiter very low when oil pressure is low to minimize damage to bearings/rods/pistons/etc.

I think you need to know the weight of your vehicle and set the brake on the dyno for your weight. That's probably why it was trying to do wheelies and that weird drip at the start of the pull. I think the last car on that dyno was Adams 4 rotor so it's probably set for a 2900 lb, big power suprotary. Try setting the brake on it down a bunch? I'm not a pro, I just remember one of the boys mentioning it to Adam a LONG time ago when he first started using it

BEAMS or nothing. stock makes 200hp more w itbs and other "fun" mods. vvti on the intake-exhaust and its got high comp with a built head if u get ur hands on a oem manual one G1,G3,G5 motors. oh and they are cheaper than any 20v only problem is if u put one in an 86 u have to swap ur diff out 100% it makes too much power if u plan on drifting it.
