This video comprehensively discusses the ideal battery setup for weekend warriors. An AGM group 31 battery, the largest battery that can fit into the 4Runner and Tacoma, provides ample power for the vast array of accessories. Thus, the need for a dual-battery setup is eradicated. This setup is particularly recommended for weekend warriors since the vehicle starting up will recharge the battery, thus enabling longer durations without the need for a secondary battery.

You can get regular lead acid group 31's in stud or post types. What I like about 31's is at the battery shop I go to they are only about $30 more than a group 24 which is way cheaper that 2 group 24 batteries

The same battery in the "marine" version has a post and a threaded bolt to connect to, so if you don't need too many contacts it's a good choice.

Thanks for making this video. Some info that might be helpful would be usable amp hours with the Group31 vs usable amp hours with the dual battery. Otherwise I think you have a compelling argument!

What ditch light brackets do you use for your LP4's? Im running the cali raised ones and they seem to flimsy.

You do need a bigger tray if you're upgrading to a group31. I just upgraded last year and glad that I did.

Quick question, what are you doing to get the 14.7 volts required to get out of the alternator? I ran this set up but my battery was never at 100% charge.

Very good point as AGM batteries require 14.3 to 14.8 volts to properly charge your battery. Cars where the alternator has been designed for AGM batteries will work just fine but if your car was designed for a flood battery your expensive AGM will be destroyed and will never get fully charged.

You don't need to buy a new starter battery and tray for starter battery in order to add an isolated aux battery... So that's 500-600 less than what you said for thedual battery cost.

Wasted $. Just run dual everstart agm batteries. All these batteries are made by two companys. I run the 65 group on my jeep, which many run on 2500 3500 diesel trucks. Do your homework!

Do you mean in the sort of dual battery configuration similar to what he shows on his Tacoma? I’m currently weighing options for simple weekend trips with a 12volt frig/freezer.

In reality you have two batteries in. your vehicle. That Goal Zero Yeti is your second rather expensive battery.

Has anyone tried Lithium? I use for my bass boat, they make cranking batteries now. Just don't know how they perform on cars. Cheaper and way lighter than AGM or Lead Acid...

They wouldn't work in extreme temperatures, below freezing, they shut down and can fry the diodes on the alternator. They also don't do well over 130°@F.
