Great collaboration! Nice classic chest workout, but I must say that personally I found the Larsen press (with a slight incline and reverse grip) and the Gironda neck press (with very wide grip and hands turned inwards) more effective, especially for building the upper/inner pecs.

That was great! The conversation and demonstration were so powerful together. Starting tomorrow, I'm going to switch from flat DB BP to incline, drop the weight, focus even more on the eccentric and add a pause at the bottom. When you can use less weight to get equal or better results, it's a no-brainer.

@KurokamiNajimi9 ай бұрын
In my experience wider grip activates lower and outlier chest most, by wide I mean about 2 inches more than medium. Close (shoulder width) shifts it more to upper/inner I like to mix in all 3. All I do is larsen with 3 second pauses (this combo is the only way I can really feel the chest on every rep) 3 second eccentric and I don’t explode on the concentric. Reps before the last 3 are always 2-3 seconds going up. All of this combined is WAY harder 20-25% compared to conventional fast tempo touch and go depending on how much leg drive you use. Not sure how much strength is lost (if any) I can instantly move whatever my 1 rep max is on this hard variation for 7+ if I make it easier. At some point maybe just lacking the grip strength to unrack the bar would hold you back but you could do static holds for that

This was such a good showcase for me. I've long thought that I was atypically weak as I've been progressing on bench. For context I'm up to 160lbs for 10 on the Larsen press at 195cm and 104kg. Seeing Daniel get a challenging set in at around the same weight is so refreshing after thinking that I was just garbage until I could do 225 for reps. I'll keep working on it, 225 is still my goal, but knowing that I'm in a normal ballpark is a lot of motivation to stay on track.

It's funny, there are a group of guys in my gym even older than I am who ego lift. I swear, every day is bench day for them. They half rep, go to fast, basically everything that leads to injury. I'm 42 and have injured myself too many times to do that stuff.
@marianoitaliano8059 ай бұрын
I stopped doing any bench and started doing only weighted dips and flys and my chest exploded.
@badsector829 ай бұрын
Where you touch the chest with the bar depends on the length of your hands. They must be vertical in the bottom position. Arching is to make the bar path straight so you don't load your shoulders that much. You don't have to push with the butt, but arching is good to have. Too slow eccentrics with a big pause are good for your middle weight range. For the drop set with light weights and lots of reps, you don't care that much, but just get the pump. On incline you make full ROM in the first reps. Last reps you don't stretch to maximum in the lowest part. And you can gradually decrease ROM to get more reps and reach failure. Also, the angle doesn't need to be that much if you want to target the chest.

Teo prefers a flat back bench. I think that most BP coaches would teach you to engage in thoracic mobilization before you start pressing. Teo should have explained the difference better. PS, what's up with those proprioception killing slides that he's wearing??
@jamsolid9 ай бұрын
Proprioception is adaptable. Think then princess and the pea. He may just be accustomed to that footwear, so experience a stronger sense of connection in those shoes that someone who is not accustomed. While more minimal footwear may provide stronger connection, there is a point of diminishing return.
