Hollow knight has hidden bosses. The fact that they are hidden and not everyone encounters them makes them feel more special. While playing you may not notice/know it but when you realise it while talking about it with friends it hits you and you appreciate it so much more. As a game dev i want to explore this idea in my future games and think it's interesting in its own way

20:02 EXA-FUCKING-XACTLY! They strip Crownless of his personality and to be honest, it added a lot of tension and intrigue to the world and the story. The current one is slow and meandering which is fine for lore-buffs like me but imagine the hook to some players who think cutscenes=good story with just this cutscene. They say the CN testers didn't like seeing their waifus kicked but I don't know if that's true. Great video btw. CCs who play non-gachas of different genres are always my favorite when reviewing or making gacha content. Cause they usually know what they're talking about. And are less-prone to gacha tribalism and bias.
@DrBodyshot3 ай бұрын
Genuinely. The current version of his cutscene makes him feel very inconsequential to what's going on. The old cutscene actually does a lot of explain why the characters think he's such a main character cause he just took on a monster that no-diffed 3 whole resonators by themselves. And thanks! I like bringing in my opinion about gacha games from someone who isn't part of the demographic that would usually play them! I'm glad that it gives an insight to the game that can stand on its own in such a saturated space!

I think Thundering Mephis Hologram is also good boss. Especially if you are using Danjin. Thundering Mephis as a baseline is easy boss, even at diffuculty 6. But what makes it harder is his clone. "Yeah you were beating him already but what if there were two of them" and Kuro handled 2v1 situation perfect imo. in other games, 2v1 situations are just pain or not well implamented. Because it's either you have to kill them at the same time or you have big problem, or you focus on one of them and make situation 1v1 later. But in Thundering Mephis, it's always 2v1 and no junky mechanic. And Thundering Mephis's attacks are slow. So you won't start to swear that his clone came out of nowhere. it's your fault if you don't dodge that because he waited a lot to attack. Even in enemy's most vulnarable state, you have to watch out attack. You can't turn your brain off any moment. And why Danjin makes it better is Danjin has a lot and long animations. So if they attack at the same time, you don't have to dodge twice. And the fact that Danjin can wait a lot between her combos makes it more satisfying to delay your attack to dodge another attack. That means game literally rewards you a lot for not button mashing. And another but last thing about Thundering Mephis I like is how he can surprise you a lot. He and his clone can be anywhere in anytime. Even pro players recommend that even if he is down, put your back to the wall and watch out his clone. You are always in edge of your seat. You usually can't play with set rotation. You have to be creative. And the fact is he even can hide behind his clone. I lost the count of how many times I died because I didn't see him behind his clone. The best boss that I enjoy.
@DrBodyshot3 ай бұрын
Yeah! Thundering Mephis is a VERY close 2nd as my favorite tbh. I love how aggressive he is cause you HAVE to match that aggression the entire fight otherwise you just get overwhelmed by both his and his clone's attacks. I think Tempest Mephis could of been a great rival boss if they gave it similar level of characterisation to the Crownless Its fast, sure, but it isnt just running at you at full speed. Its blinking from left to right to feint, sometime its charging at you, sometime its appearing infront of you to strike. You can parry those sort of strike usually, so at time it will charge at you with an unparryable attack. Each difficulty add another layer of mix up to its attack pattern. By diff 4, it now has a clone, and the clone isnt just more attack, but attack pattern that are designed to throw you off your defense. Like the delayed explosion with a clone attacking you mid start up, or a physical attack while the clone charge up a beam behind it Mephis isnt just mindlessly destroying whats infront of it, it acknowledge youre defending yourself and its attacking in a way thats trying to throw you off. Similar to the crownless, its intelligent, it feel more like fighting a human rather than a monster

Lucilius Zero in Granblue Fantasy Relink is a perfect boss to me in the context of the game. He's portrayed as this thing that you don't really feel like you're supposed to beat. His mechanics are not like other bosses (or even the previous version of himself). He gives you no breathing room, and he feels like he doesn't exist to give you a challenge to overcome - he exists to kill your entire party. It's the "cornered animal" metaphor driven to the extreme. He doesn't play fair. He spams and constantly utilizes his best moves. I mean, he literally starts the fight with his signature ability Paradise Lost, which if you're not careful with, can just kill you immediately. As for presentation, he's probably the best presented boss in the entire game. His design, his theme - "Zero", (whose lyrics are essentially him singing about how divine he is and how much his plan will change the world), is presented as this heroic and triumphant song. It portrays him as the hero defeating your party - those who stand in the way of a better world. Check out both regular Lucilius (Lvl 200) and Lucilius Zero (Lvl 250). I'll emphasize i'm talking about Relink, not the original Granblue Fantasy.

good stuff. earned a sub. Some more stuff about Crownless. U can actually parry his special skill out of air in his second phase. But this is only possible thru certain echoes(the green heron and that big spectro 3 cost i'm sure of), bringing an element of engagement with ur gear. I absoloutely love the 'dodge counter' buffs asking u to learn dodge counters this time instead of the parry like mephis where ur dps window is after parrying. Here, u only need to consistently need to dodge counter. While fighting this boss, i learnt even ur dodge counters have i-frames. And the i-frames for every other character's dodge counter is specific to them! Taking Encore to this fight absolutely sucks(bc her dodge counter is far lower), Yinlin however has it far easier even tho both are rectifier users. (Side note : Danjin's whole spin to win counter is has s. holy hell that is the longest i've seen and that includes her INTRO! Add this her chaos cleave . Shame this boss is havoc res .-.) These extra i-frames make delayed counters a practical skill to use. U have to choose whether to play fast and counter all attacks or delay to get the exact s or do u do both while inculculating ur echoes parries. The parry in his 2nd phase that he follows up with a recovery attack(chef's kiss). I got fked by that multiple times. I cant tell u how much i love it bc u CANNOT take it easy after ur parry. ur still in a fight and ur enemy ain't some dummy. YET he seems to me like an introduction boss to the game. "Now that u have learnt all the possible mechanics, we're gonna give u the real ones" And i just imagine a boss u gotta parry into a recovery dodge into countless more mashup of counters and dodges on the same combo. The part i rlly hate is that they don't play the full Crownless music. The late guitar drop is a freakin bop and u should definitely check it out.

They also put in the work, it'd be a bit of a shame to let it go silently into the night. But if it does, I don't think it'd be that much of an issue if they give us something equally cool.

I love Wuwa's boss and I agree that crownless is amongst the top, tho I still prefer the dreamless story fight, wish she had her whole moveset when you refight her. But I must say it, I think PGR, Kura's other gacha have better bosses (it also have better character IMO), If you want to see something pretty similar to Crownless, check up some perfect Radiant Marcher showcase, realy satisfying. Personaly, one of the game with some of the best boss is Arknights, it's not an action game like Wuwa or PGR, it's a strategy game that take the form of a tower defense game, but the bosses in this game are so varied that we're 5years into the game and they still manage to make bosses feel fresh and unique, some obviousely are a miss, but we have some realy iconic ones that peoples still remember years later. One of the recent bosses that I find to realy fint the criteria of what a perfect boss is are the bosses in the most recent edition of our rogue-like mode (on the EN server), they are 2 bosses, with similar moveset, that fight each other and you happen to be in the middle, and need to defeat both, but once you defeat one, the other is buffed and you become the target of the attack that previousely targeted the other boss. and their design is maazing (especialy the red one), if interested you can find it a showcase searching this: [Arknights] IS#4 Ending 4 Experience

@@DrBodyshot It's deffinitly not a game for everyone for sure, but for us who like it, it's peak, I played a lots of gacha and it was the first one to not treat me like as if I was braindead and actualy forced me to strategize, tho as time goes there's enough good character to bruteforce most stages, but there's also a huge community of players that do self imposed challenge, wich for me is the perfect balance.

I like how Wuthering waves designed their bosses, compared to other gacha titles, namely genshin. The animations too for all the characters are also fantastic. However it is a double edged sword in some cases as it can be hard to see boss attacks through all the effects. I had this issue primarily against crownless because he is the smallest hologram and many of his attacks are not flashy, especially in phase 1. It could improve the quality of the gameplay if they made him more visible, or gave us an option to lower our vfx. Or maybe I'm just playing Jinshi and Changli who have VFX all over the place.
@DrBodyshot3 ай бұрын
It is definitely a good and a bad thing at times. He has a very intricately animated moveset but there are a good few attacks that are hardly telegraphed and can be frustrating to deal with, especially on dif 6

I feel like people overhate the aix fight. A lot of the attacks that most think are non parriable actually are parriable like the sky attack or the double hand grab or the slam. I've beaten every boss on max difficulty and from all of them id rank them as follows in terms of fun and challenge going from most to least. tempest, aix, crownless, monkey and heron idk heron is just a boring fight. The fact that literally every attack from aix and crownless is able to oneshot you and you they have so many attacks is the thing that makes those fights thrilling for me. Crownless has a pretty big con of not being able to be parried or toughness reduced for the entirety of the first phase.
@DrBodyshot3 ай бұрын
While Aix isn't necessarily difficult, that doesn't take away from the fact that the fight is annoying to do. Even on your listing, you put it on the least fun so I think we agree there
@Anonymous-sd6hq3 ай бұрын
@@DrBodyshot no no i said in terms of fun and challenge. Meaning most fun and challenging is Memphis (a lot of parriable attacks , easily telegraphed and when he does the shadow clone jutsu just multiply that by 2), then aix (a huge number of attacks , all can oneshot and they happen very quickly) then crownless and so on. I said at the end the heron fight is boring idk maybe it's just me but him spending 20 minutes in the air kills the mood for me xD.

I'm ngl, my favourite boss so far is Hologram Mephis. His boss fight is literally anime battle... It feels so cool when you dodge its strings attack and parry his moves... He's a perfect boss if you wanna learn parries ngl (only hologram mephis I think overworld Mephis kinda sucks)

i also loved crownless when we 1st him cuz who the hell is he?? walks with aura like he is just better than us( too bad he get his ass destroyed cuz he is early boss) and i also loved dreamless. to me i felt sadness when i saw her in cutscene but she starts screaming and attcking, she looks like she is desperate to protect something(there is nothing in story but she gives that kinda vibe)

Hologram bosses are basically inner bosses in Sekiro. It's like the same bosses, but better. Speaking of which. Remember when Fromsoft took into account the player's abilities and tools when designing bosses, instead of just padding them out with infinite moves and 10 year long combos?

I meant to ask-how do you get calcharo to do the enhanced heavy attack while on another char? Do you begin the heavy attack and switch?
@DrBodyshot3 ай бұрын
Yup! As a general rule, any attack with a long animation can be cancel swapped if you do it mid-attack. The guy you switched out of becomes invincible the second you switch and you get the full attack out! It's a big part of characters that have big and slow attacks like Cal, Yinlin, and Encore
