It really is a toss up on which is better. Sometimes I think the book wins, other times I think I preferred the show 🤷♀️ What did you think about the show??
@WrathOfKhaaaaaaan3 ай бұрын
I think the book wins because it's the only one whose ending I got right, this is coming from someone who hasn't read the book🤣. I'd give the show a 6.5/10 probably what I'd give the book as well.

I thought the ending in the show was strange in that Greer says she's tired of carrying everyone - and you're supposed to view this as her being empowered BUT one of the people she is "carrying" is her 17 year old son, who seems like a decent kid in need of parental involvement and guidance, who's certainly not going to get it from his father. I couldn't really cheer for that.
@danielvmay3 ай бұрын
I thought the "perfect couple" in the show was the two girls - their friendship was perfect, the rest admitted being threatened by how real they were, the bride's parents adored her and celebrated their friendship, which connects with Nicole's transformation into a "real" version of herself. My 2 cents for whatever that's worth. The idea of Nic and Leiv being the perfect couple was ironic, the real perfect couple was the friendship between the victim and the bride.

I just binge watched the show because I love Kidman. While it was very entertaining, it was only ok. It's funny the youngest son and the brother were made up for the show because I thought they were the two worst characters and completely unneeded. I like the show ending better than the book.
@WhytheBookWins3 ай бұрын
And I love Kidman too! For the most part I really liked the cast of the show. And I agree the brother was pointless, and the younger son only mattered because of the trust. The events with him getting upset about Mae and wanting to go out on the boat was unnecessary.

I think there were 3 brothers in the book, I read it last year so I could be wrong. But Nicole's brother was ridiculous and so not needed.
@Megan-xj4ip3 ай бұрын
Thanks for this breakdown. So much has changed but it is interesting because it still feels very much like the book in so many ways. Maybe because the book ended in a vague way without a "whodunnit" ending, I couldn't remember who did and so it was enjoyable going through the series and wondering how it would end. I do wish they kept the bride almost eloping with the best man in the show like the book. You might have said and I missed, but the detectives changed quite a bit too- one of them was Nick "The Greek" who was the other main detective to the chief. Overall, I enjoyed both the book and TV show.
@WhytheBookWins3 ай бұрын
Thanks for commenting! I'm glad you liked the video😊 And yeah I should have mentioned the detectives because they swapped "the Greek" for the woman investigator and the dynamic between them was very different!

@@WhytheBookWins I haven't read the book but I felt that the woman detective was what made this show. Without her absolutely perfect timing and comments the show would be a bit more flat.

What was the connection between Greer and shooter?
@WhytheBookWinsАй бұрын
Shooter was close friends with Greer's son in the book and that was it. But in the show, Greer borrowed money from Shooter's rich family to pay debts her brother was racking up.

@@WhytheBookWinsinteresting. In the show greer kept mentioning how close they were to shooter and I kept thinking why? Did he do something heroic? Were their families in business dealings together? They didn't even show what happened to shooter after.

I am watching I am on episode 4 I am enjoying it so far it’s a good end of summer show. It’s not a masterpiece but I find it campy fun. I do like the maid I find her hilarious I know have an excuse to not clean dishes if I am ever invited to a rich family’s house lol. I am kidding usually I ask for that. I did find Amelia a little annoying in episode 3 like be subtle when you investigate. Is she like that in the book? I am glad that they made Benji a better guy on the show I understand why they cut the story with Merritt’s parents but I think the show could have had a line that they were estranged. Cause I know with a lot of parents they would have been on the first plane to Nantucket. I can understand why the Winbury are desensitized because their trained to brush these things aside I might write again once I finish the series
@WhytheBookWins3 ай бұрын
Glad you are liking it so far! And Amelia is very different in the show. In the book she was shy and they focus more on just how much she loves her parents. And Greer wasn't unhappy with Amelia's behavior the way we see in the show.

@@Coco-zu9ob I can understand from a production standpoint they didn’t want a hire extra actors but they could have given some lines like passed away, estranged, or were caught up in plane delays to come to Nantucket for the last part Amelia could just tell someone that Merritts got their at the last minutes all was needed was just a few lines

I think the quote from the cop father about "victim of her own choices" was suposed to be a character thing for him and not a message to her audience. It seems like the type of thing my dad would say to me when I was young. A poor attempt to protect his kid from dangerous decisions.

Nice to see you point out the differences like book Shooter is fleshed out more, the absurd Greer's brother subplot was made up, felt out of place. The killer being pregnant Abby I did not see coming still hard to believe a heavily pregnant women. I thought it was Greer being the Matriarch being rich and fiction writer, planned it and had a fixer do it. That sounded a bit obvious so thought maybe twist might be it was accidental or even crazier the maid Goicia did it lol. Thanks for the insightful review and never thought the Perfect Couple was Celeste's/Amelia's parents makes perfect sense.

The book may not be great but COME ON, the show is so bad there is wide speculation that it was written by an AI. 1 example of hundreds: the youngest son is 18 in, like, a month. The trust will be distributed long before the baby is born. The new, invented motive doesn't hold up at all if anyone thinks about it for 10 seconds. Ditto the arrest. What evidence do the police have? She washed a glass? This is fan fiction level dumb. It's not good that you're finding it to gave merit.
