Yet again another brutally honest review. Thanks for the uploads.

Thanks for the review. You make a good point regarding how conspicuous this bike is. Also, the other problem is that few people in this country live close to suitable ride locations. This means that they would need to ride on the highway to get there, (and risk police attention) or they would need a van or suitable trailer to transport it. I believe this is why there are so many on the used market.

I'm in the UK and bought the road legal version. I use it as a daily rider and have been around lots of police with it. Not pulled yet, but i get plenty of people looking. As long as its insured and your riding it normally, you won't be getting it crushed!

Yep road legal version is fine BUT thing is you have to ride it on the road or private land, soon as you are riding it around off road where only push bike are allowed it's a problem and you are easily identified with your number plate. I'd love one though, they look great fun and a option for commuting in the city.

99% of states accept the working pedal kit you can purchase for Sur Ron; get the pedal kit from Kaniwaba to make it a class 2 e-bike (working pedals with throttle). Additionally you can install their pedal assist sensor that lets you choose your power assist levels; this will work for local trails, parks, etc. that accept class 1, 2 or 3 e-bikes, so long as you don't speed or act like an idiot, and the bonus is you have the power/range to get up/around anything. If you are extremely concerned, or still being harassed for no actual reason after being responsible/legal, then buy the Sur Ron bicycle seat from Kaniwaba and it will make it look like an e-mountain-bike if appearance is the main issue. As far as the road goes, you can easily get your simple moped license in most states, or get a motorcycle license - just put turn signals on the Sur Ron if needed; STOCK Sur Ron is around 31 MPH, that's plenty on most normal roads. You can also snip the green limiter wire and get about 45 mph. You can go a step further and upgrade to the 72v battery/new-controller and get around 55+ mph which is way more than a enough, but it will cost you a lot more. The reason to still get this over an e-mountain-bike in my opinion is the power to climb anything with ease, travel roads, etc., among other reasons. The price, power, and mod-versatility is what makes the Sur Ron so valuable as you'd have to spend $6k + on a "comparable" E-Mountain-Bike (although great as well) to get a quarter of the Sur Ron's power. Cheers

@@DudeStuff there's a few minor differences such as the Talaria has a gearbox where the Sur ron has a belt drive direct to a chain drive the Talaria is a little heavier but stands a little taller as well as there's a slight difference in the amp hours. The speed band curve is different on both bikes with the telaria having a little more power at the top end while the sur Ron has more in the mid-range. Both are great bikes but the talarias rear swing arm is a little wider for a bigger tire. The sur Ron X has a wider range of Plug and Play parts that you can buy right off the bat and with the taleria you will have to hunt far and wide. Personally I like both and I would take either and I wish you lots of fun on your ride. Great video keep pumping them out there.

@@mckidney1 Another reason not to buy one. The Sur-Ron and CYC mid drives have that awful whine. Bafang BBSHD doesn't do that...dead quiet. Its the gear reduction....likely all metal gears...but more than that. Its the RPM that gives them their power...which is created by higher amp controller with field weakening in combination with bigger voltage.

You can't get them registered as an e-moped or e-motorcycle there in UK? You can get them registered everywhere in USA to ride legally but many areas will pull you over if it's unregistered. Many small towns in my area will let you ride it, even dirt bikes, ATV's & golf karts as long as you're not riding like a dickhead on it. At least here in USA you can ride a 5,000w e-bike pretty much everywhere you want as long as you're not speeding & it looks like a standard e-bicycle with pedals. Technically it's only supposed to be 750w max but the huge majority of cops won't bother you, unless you're speeding or riding stupid. If it looks more like a motorcycle (without pedals) than a bicycle, that's when it starts to become an issue.....I built a 40 mph, 2 stroke motorized bicycle because it's way cheaper & I can't afford an e-bike right now. I wanna sell some items & get the money to build a nice e-bike so I can ride everywhere without any issues. I might just add a FWD motor & small battery pack to my 2 stroke bike to make it a hybrid....That way if I see a cop give me the stink eye. I can kill the engine & switch to electric before he has a chance to me over. Also the FWD motor would provide a 2wd power boost up steep hills since I only have 1 engine gear/no transmission. Also looking into a small alternator/generator connected to the 2 stroke engine that would recharge the e-bike battery when riding.

@lukewalker10512 жыл бұрын
If you get caught speeding in the UK or in America on that thing as you state, the police are going to give you a ticket or confiscate it. Its too slow to ride like a regular registered motorcycle out on road with cars. No-man-land basically. Its ok for riding it on private land if you are a rich guy with a lot of land and have kids and want them to be entertained, but most will buy gas dirt bikes for this because they have more power, jump better etc. So the Sur-Ron for me is lost in the shuffle. Doesn't look like a bicycle. Doesn't have pedals...or if you add them, they are a joke. Can't really ride an electric motorcycle on public bicycle paths. The type of mtb's you convert with 2K watt motors are best. I prefer a mid drive BBSHD Bafang mtb for an 'ebike'. I own two. One is a roadbike with dropbar and skinny tires and it flies...but don't hit a big bump on it because that will leave a mark. ;-) Other than that, I want a gas engine motorcycle for more power and range and if I have to register it, that's fine....I have a motorcycle license. A Honda Grom, gas powered 125cc has 10 hp and will do 60mph for 100 miles and no Sur-Ron can do that. Same money. Grom any day of the week or Trail 125. I don't think America is as penal on Sur-Ron owners...we have 28mph class III speed rating acceptance for e-bikes but depends on the jurisdiction in America. Never heard of one 'crushed'. That seems absurd and if the policy in the UK, the citizenry has to voice its collective outrage and change your laws. Otherwise, the world will be inherited by dimwit nannies that never got any sun exposure.
@willfullyinformed2 жыл бұрын
It's not nearly that complicated or concerning, you're blowing it way out of proportion. 99% of states accept the working pedal kit you mentioned. Get the pedal kit from Kaniwaba, you can also install their very nice pedal assist sensor which makes it 100% legal on the road as a class 2 e-bike (working pedals with throttle) even without the assist sensor; this will work for local trails, parks, etc. that accept e-bikes, so long as you don't speed or act like an idiot, and the bonus is you have the power/range to get up/around anything. If you are extremely concerned, or still being harassed for no actual reason after being responsible/legal, then buy the Sur Ron bicycle seat from Kaniwaba and it will make it look just like an e-mountain-bike if appearance is the main issue. You can also snip the green limiter wire and get about 55 mph, it's plenty fast for being on normal roads and most people avoid highways simply because it's a death wish with how many mindless people are driving in their metal death machines. You can go a step further and upgrade to the 72v battery/new-controller and get around 85mph which is more than a enough, but it will cost you more. Cheers

Currently running on Turnigy packs, three 6s and one 4s in series. Can't go beyond this voltage as I'll blow sab mosfets. Currently tamed down to 100a, as turnigy packs rated 12-24c. But I have some Tattu li-po laying around rated 25c. I'm planning to solder some qs8 connectors and turn up to the full 150a potential. That'll tear the skin off yer porridge. That's a theoretical 13,800w, 18.4hp. Minus voltage sag under load. Which there will be, as I'm not running any packs parallel...at the moment. I prefer the lighter weigh and don't need the range.
