I didn't know about this film either, until the lead was mentioned for the Green Lantern casting. I went in "blind" and loved it. It did remind me of Rambo and Reacher.

My first exposure to Aaron Pierre was in the DC show Krypton which he stood out. Then last year I saw him in the underrated sci-fi film "Foe" where he was starring alongside Saoirse Ronan & Paul Mescal & he was magnetic. Something about his performance I couldn't take my eyes off. Fantastic actor. He a fabulous choice for John Stewart. Really excited for the "Lanterns" show, probably in my top 3 most anticipated DCU projects along with Superman & Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow. Still need to check out this movie. Definitely adding it to my must watch list. Cheers Coy!

I watched this a couple of days ago myself. Really enjoyed it! I already had been told it was great, but after Aaron was cast for Lanterns, it put this at a higher priority for me

I was really looking forward to this one anyway because I really love Jeremy Saulnier's work, I've been a fan ever since Blue Ruin, and he's always impressed me since. And his last film was another really INCREDIBLE overlooked Netflix movie, Hold the Dark, which is really great. But Rebel Ridge is definitely now my FAVOURITE of his films to date, even beating out his previous masterpiece Green Room.

I finally saw the movie and the action was great because he didn't kill them :) We don't see that in action movies very often. Also Aaron Pierre was in Krypton which is where I saw him first, that was a great show.

Really glad you took the time to do a review of the film. It really is a modern day take on, First Blood (they drew first blood not me). I watched your out of theatre reaction to the Christopher Reeves Superman Documentary, where you said that Reeves was perfect casting. I don’t want to put the cart before the horse here and the Green Lantern series is in the pre-pre-preproduction stages but I put Pierre’s casting right up there. An amazing talent! S/O to Don Johnson as well and his 💩 eating grin, still putting in work in his 70s. Last thing Green Room, same director (Saulnier) highly recommend. Stars the late Anton Yelchin, Patrick Stewart.. Saulnier is great at building tension!
@ArthurCrane9218 күн бұрын
One of my favorite things about Saulnier's movies is that the villains aren't just threatening or evil, they're also smart and that makes them more dangerous and makes for a more tense film. Also, you WILL believe that you can have good action with a main character whose skill set is built around de-escalation.

Not too thrilled about Hals casting but Johns seems great. Will definitely give them a chance.

FYI. I think it was Quentin T who i heard the story from about how neutered the movie Rambo was compared to the original novel. The novel was evidently a ton more hard hitting and poignant.

Loved this film, great commentary on police corruption & systemic prison population issues, and pairs those ideas together very well. Jeremy Saulnier directed the tension and action very well, so would love to see him get an opportunity on a high budget film.

Very good movie it had me interested right away, I do wish we saw a little more action, though. I low-key wish he went straight punisher on them. But it was really good!

Personally like that he didn’t. Suits the character / reality more. And wev always got the punisher for that!

Coy, I guarantee you would not regret making time to check out Arcane. Even if you can't review it, you owe it to yourself to at least watch it for yourself. Some of the most immersive storytelling I've ever seen in animation, period.
@danielland376718 күн бұрын
Thank you for calling the villian a villain and not a "antihero" and therefore say "they where right", while you can understand how they become a villain they are doing the wrong thing period. We are at a point in culture where a villian is "right" because it seems as if they can do whatever they want an get away with it, but a bad guy is a bad guy.

I wish I enjoyed this film. I thought the first half was interesting but the second half was very mid. Just a made for Netflix streaming movie with minimal resolution of the plotlines (his cousin's arrest on video... What happened to that? Did the Judge survive? What happened to the woman's career/kid?) Oh well, I'm glad others enjoyed it.

Imma say the quiet part out loud. Rebel ridge was ......ok-ish, it just felt like I had already seen it. It's basically reacher meets first blood, but not quite as good as either. I think the biggest reason im not high on this film is because I just recently binge watched first blood movies and the reacher films and series not even a few months back. So those films and are still fresh on my mind.

@DominiqueSpikes-i1t Every single person he was facing off against was a cop lol. You really want the main protagonist murdering police officers (even if they're crooked). That wouldn't be a good look, and it flies in the face of the character he was portraying, IMO
