Thanks again for finding the perfect solution! Love the videos…keep them coming buddy!

I built cabinets in a dewalt loyal shop for years and when I got laid off I bought the Hercules radial arm saw biggest one they had out of desperation. I would pit that and the orbital sander and any other Hercules tool I’ve bought against a dewalt any day at 1/3 the price. The only thing I haven’t been impressed with is the durability of the consumables (sandpaper etc) but the tools themselves are solid.

PS: I like HF-as a newby, I bought some F clamps from a local woodworking store-they were 3x the price and didn’t work as well as the HF f clamps I picked up. HF chisels were cheap but good enough for me to practice with. I In the past, I have gotten all my tarps and discharge hose from there. That saved us a fortune when we were pumping water out of the ditch for irrigation. HF is one of my favorite stores to wander around-oh, and I like their $145 work benches with three drawers and a vise on the side and storage shelf underneath. Thanks again!

Catawampus is fun to type and say! About 5 years ago I went on a deep-dive to find the "best" workbench and most of those videos involve hundreds of hours of really fancy dovetails and crazy vises and bells and whistles. I remember looking for something EXACTLY like this. I agree this is the best work bench because it is simple and it works and you can adapt it to your needs. I will be using this design for my next workshop when I move next year this is the first project on the list (after I pour the concrete floors cause I don't think the castors would work in the dirt.) Thank you for sharing all that you do. Your channel is one of the few that feels legitimately like its sole purpose is to help people that want to make projects (and make money selling projects)

Edit: CattyWampus Love that confession about editing Southern Slang…. I’m from TN and share your struggles. My Martin heritage in Rowan Co. knew you we hold in’ out on us . I’m 65 and agree with your philosophy of function over looks when it comes to the bench you gotta hammer on. I have a few “work boards” very shallow trays that hold individual projects. I rack those up vertically and use them on top of the plain pine 2 x 12 battle scarred top of bench. It adds organization, and the smaller work trays can be cutoff scraps of oak, cherry, walnut, … whatever ya got. Keep up the great work and don’t worry about accent…. Women in Australia go nuts over men with Southern accents. In a jewelry store , one beautiful lady told me she thought the accents sounded “ distinguished and refined” …. I about fell out laughing. I threw together a work table a few years ago and I'm seeing all of the things that I didn't think about when I made it. I've been running through my head of all the different ideas. Then, I saw this video. This is what I need. I would add some through drawers right below the top. Drawers that that are connected but pull out from both sides. For me I can see that being very handy. Because of weight, I don't think I would put storage under these except for some shelves. Even if only on 1 side/end. Mostly to hold tools I'm using at the time. Great video and as usual, great build and info. God bless and keep'em comin'.

I've gone from a single car garage with a concrete floor that was hand mixed and very rough (by a previous owner) to a nice two car garage, to a 24ft by 38ft shop, to my now 40ft by 72ft shop. I built a large table with cabinet under an adjustable top that serves as an assembly table as well as an outfeed table. It has slots to match my 10 inch table saw's miter slots as well as my 12 inch table saw miter slots. And, I built an infeed table as well that has a maple top, is drilled for 3/4 inch dogs and two wood vise. All my power equipment with the exception of my 10 inch table saw were my father's and even though they are old love using them!

Caddywampus describes my small shop perfectly. And your bench design solves many problems I have been trying to solve. Thanks for the great idea!

Hi Matthew, I've been watching your channel for some time now. I'm a seasoned woodworker and enjoy every bit of content that you put out. Your project presentations & explanations are up there with the best of 'em~! My wife and I just retired a couple of weeks ago and my shop time is about to go full bore. I've accumulated a long list of things to build over the years and am ready to make up for lost time. I see A LOT of your projects that will be going to front of the line, especially this bench/cart build. So versatile~!! I just want to thank you for your support & contributions to this community~! It's full-timers like you that keep (used to be) part-timers like me interested in keeping the sawdust flying. Always looking forward to your next video~!!

Catawampus, my favorite word. Love this work bench. I’m building a new shop now and was thinking about something like this. I’m actually planning to build carts for my table saw, thickness planer, and jointer that can be moved around the shop as needed and wanted to build a table that could be used as in feed and out feed. This will be perfect. Thank you for a great video.

Cattywampus is a word used universally in many areas. I am not a hard core wood worker but was able to follow your design, build and explanation easily. Glad I watched.

Thank you! Thanks for the full detailed explanation without having to buy plans. I built this and it's pretty amazing!

Catawampus is it! I'm from West Tennessee and worked in Ohio a few years ago on a job. A guy installed a conduit that wasn't plumb, I told him it was wampyjawed... he didn't have a clue 😁 Love your videos!! Been watching for about a year, first time commenting. This video was right on time... I'm building my new work table in the next week or so. I saw some ideas that I really like. Keep those great videos coming!!

Catawampus! As a 70 year old retired artist , and if you're an artist you know we never retire !!! I have to say that table is awesome 👌. I wish I had space for one but hopefully I will by next spring. Thanks for sharing your process as it will make building one easy. I've made plenty of tables over the years but your design is outstanding. ❤

Catawampus!!! I'm going to build this this weekend! I've been struggling with workbench designs and this just made the decision easy! Thank you Matthew!!!

Heck yeah! That's one (Three) Heck of a Table brother! I love it! Thanks for "ACTUALLY" showing us how you build it and not making us BUY plans on your website! I'm so sick of YTer's that SAY that they're there to help all of us, but they're ACTUALLY only there to help THEMSELVES make money by selling their PLANS! I think I might actually make this table for my work area. I really do appreciate this video and the time and effort you put into the recording and editing of making the video. I know it's a lot more work than most people think about. It's much appreciated! G-d bless you and yours. Shalom!

I have been using 4 separate 2' x 4' benches for a good while. So handy for all the adjustability as you mentioned! I never thought of hinging but I don't think I have the space to swing. I like the 3' idea for reachability but again I don't think I can work it into my space. You have inspired the thought of a swing up 1' shelf on 1 or 2 of the 2' x 4' benches. I have a problem with my floor being irregular so I have a supply of shims and wedges to level up as required for each set up. It is sort of a pain but I generally will leave an arrangement of benches set up for a good while. I will also clamp up the benches from the underside either directly or with blocks between to make clearance for the track saw blade. The system works great for my small space. You are my kind of thinker, I will subscribe and look forward to more of your ideas. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for sharing! That is an awesome idea and I also like video editing. You have no BS speech, get to the point fast, and even show us the mistakes and corrections. Deeply appreciate your work and I will build one myself. Once I have it done, I will show it/them to you.

Catawampus happened in this video and I think it was one of the best parts of the video because it showed us that even a seasoned woodworker like yourself makes mistakes AND even better, you showed us how you eliminated the catawampus, lol. I will be building myself this workbench this fall / winter. I'm in Texas so it's HOT as hell right now. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I can't wait to build this.

Harbor freight has been my go to since the 80’s for wrenches, sockets, hand wood working tools, drill bits, wood working clamps, etc. Surprisingly good. And best of all very affordable.

You just came across my feed. I've never seen your videos before but I love the idea and versatility of this bench. I can totally see that with doors and or drawers for more storage options. I love the Idea and appreciate you sharing it with the world.

Great idea. Good timing as I was just about to start on a traditional workbench but now, I am looking at it all completely differently. Many thanks from Downunder!

If I hadn't already customized my garage/shop, this is likely the direction I would have gone. Great content and great presentation makes for a great video. Congrats!

The only people not making mistakes are the people not doing anything! Great video, easy to understand. I'm building a new home and including an attached 15x25 shop. My first "real" shop! This will probably be the first build once I finally move in!

Wow, great idea. I have a big 4x8 workbench that is nice when I need it, but at least half of the time it's too big and it's in the way for other projects. I end up moving it back and forth between my barn and workshop every few weeks. This idea makes way more sense and it will be easier to store out of the way.

Catawampus. Just started woodworking in the last year and use what I had for workbench: 2 aluminum 4' x 2' old food prep tables. They are ok usually but have led to some catawampus times with blades and nails. Your workbench will be wicked pissah (Boston speak for "great") in my shop! Perfect size and utility to keep projects organized. Nice build! Always be proud of your accent and expressions. I have lived in NC for 19 years, after growing up in Massachusetts and I'm told my Boston really comes back after I visit up there. Wicked pissah!

Catawampas. I spell it different because I grew up in California but I still use it. Matt you sir are brilliant. So glad I found your page and am so going to complete this project. Moving to north Arizona soon and when I have my new shop this will be my new table. Thank you.

Totally understand catawampus. I am about to build a work bench for my new location in Ohio (hi neighbor) and shop and have looked at others bench examples. Your presentation was so clear (accent no issue) and the bench so versatile and exactly what I needed.

I've got a super small shop with a lean to to work under. That's where I do my cutting and planning. The problem is the lean to still has a dirt floor. We are remodeling a bathroom now but as soon as it's done I plan to have concrete poured under the lean to. I'm going to build these tables to help with everything you talked about in the video. I'll be able to take down my saw horses and planks I use for a table. Good video Matthew!
