I can remember when DM was a no-fly zone in its own right. CV's would avoid it at all costs or lose all their planes.

I remember playing as a tier 8 carrier, accidentally flying a squad too close to a DM. It disappeared within 2 seconds.

Oh buddy , I have Malta , Immelmann , Midway , Hakuryu , Richthofen , Audacius & Nakhimov from T10 cv , I am not CV play , I got those fot T10 rewords SC & SG , I have played few battles and in my experience when I play it enemy AA is OP ... but no matter if I play Des Moines or Salem or any out of my 76 T10 or any of my 378 ships that I have , I get wrecked by CV :/ , I dont like CV I dont like subs I wish for dd , ca & bb random battle mod only .

I think most people avoid close combat in the early stages of the game because you need a certain skill level to do so. Speaking for myself i hesitate to do it because i dont have the "eye" to see what are good positions where i can stay safe AND have impact on the battle. When i try it i either have good cover but cant do anything at all or i chose a position where i got the easiest target for the whole enemy team and die the next minute.

Wargaming knows this and has therefore monetized the game by allowing average players to farm damage safely with various game mechanics and classes like CVs and subs, thus ruining the core game experience. Appealing to the lowest common denominator without giving a damn about the long term health of the game. When the game is no longer profitable they pull the plug and just move on to the next scam. That DM game was just a blast from the past before it all went to shit.

I still use my legendary mod on DM. It's probably less ideal than a few years ago but I just love the handling of it too much.

Man I miss the times when you could full spec your captain and equipment for a 100% AA build, and this ship was soooo damn good it didn’t even matter you spent everything on the AA it performed no matter what 😢

DM is bestgirl perk confederate on Halsey with some AR buff and it's a ~2.5 sec reload on 203mm shells

as someone who just got back in wows and havent played since like 2019 I was really wondering why 90% of my DM games are absolutely no fun, and i think this video nailed it. Didnt really think about how badly my old school island strategy performs versus subs and perma spotting you and CVs with invincible planes and just being annoying little shits, I miss my no fly zone, DM AA used to be best in class and when you pressed the button a CVs entire airwing would just vanish. Rip DM, games like this are so fun but just not even worth queing as DM when 90% of games arent this =(

Dm is just a floating citadel CA. Used to be OP at start, wrecking both ships and planes alike. Now, it is food for CVs and shooting targets for Big calibers BB.

DM, Hindi, Mino, Zao are still very good&relevant, if You know how to play them. DM with legendary module is very fun :)

A lot of people keep on saying how CVs are better now than back in the day, but i remember AA ships being a no fly zone, and having a CV with no planes left in a game. Start of this week CVs won and after 7 years i quit playing.

Buddy my personal advise , if you like playing wows , go to player auction and just buy account , in longer run that will be cheaper , yes you will spend 1500$ for account with 76 ships and few super ships , but in reality you will need to spend 50.000$ and 150.000$ value in your time , I am not shiting you , I have 30k battles in wows in 5 years 76 T10 13 T11 ships , and if I need to strat from 0 , I go just buy account !

I’m still on the Buffalo - and I like the gameplay. There’s something at stake, you can impact the game despite being in a vulnerable ship. It’s fun.

I've was taking DM out in Asymmetric Battles to learn the play style. Got better at it. havent taken it out much in Randoms yet.

DM was one of my first cruiser I got in game , I got her because my first T10 premium was Salem and I had few great battles on her , but DM , I had no luck playing her , dunno why , is should be Salem copy , butfor me who have played game since 2018 and have 26 T10 cruisers I play , only premium ones Salem (citadel) & Colbert (fires) for co op doing missions , Stalingrad , Moskva , Smolensk , Yoshino ranked , DM , Petro, Zao, Henry 4th biggest issue are commanders for me , as to have full potential you need 21p commander and I rather have my Halsey as commander on Annapolis and use it on Salem , Puerto Rico , Ohio , Benham , Alaska without any penality , and I am sure I am not only one , running regular ships is not cost effective .

How do you play the DM into a map with bad island, CVs, Subs, and overmatching BBs? Cause it feels like 99% of games in the DM.

I take DFAA over hydro with DM, maybe not the right choice but my reasoning is that a CV is a bigger threat when island camping versus incoming torps when pushing

It's great against subs, you're almost impossible to hit when evading. And the combo of radar and hydro makes them very easy to pin down. Carriers so long as you're not pointed directly at or away from the planes are easy to deal with so long as you focus your AA. Especially if you stay at least 3.5k away from a friendly while still in their AA. You can't be as aggressive but des moins is the king of mid to late game so being a bit more conservative early on isn't a bad thing. But we really do need to go back to rts carriers. It was more fun for carriers and surface ships

I still have legendary mod on my desmo but I miss the pre nerf desmo (also pre nerf Zao and Henri) WG seem to not want agility and ship handling to play part of the game.... spamming HE over islands was frustrating for bbs but it wasn't without risk for the cruiser - anyone getting aroudn the corner or LOS to the crusier could easily lead to it being smashed.

Wargaming know that the clients have a tendency to react multiplied by 4 ( spend money) due to frustration rather than spending money for pleasure.Therefore wows/wot in special, have been deisgned to give more frustration rather than pleasure.Hope it gives you an perspective on why the game is as it is

I feel that the DM can be a great ship, but if it’s up against any challenges it can quickly die. It is definitely an unfortunate victim of power creep with newer ships with bigger guns and unique abilities so that WG can keep selling new stuff. DM is certainly still a powerful ship (when it works, it works), but only in the right situations. With a new ship comes around with bigger guns, it gets destroyed… if an enemy knows what to do with a new ship, it’s going to get outplayed… and everyone knows what happens with carriers :(. The skill ceiling is definitely higher now with regular MM, any small mistake or loss of situational awareness will get you killed, while newer ships enjoy more second chances with (WG magic I guess?).

I love playing Des Moines, but in most cases issue is not the CV, but overmatch... Don't get me wrong CVs are pain in the ass, but You can get overmatched by tier 8bbs head on...

Well first it doesn't get dm legendary mod, an almost useless radar, no hydro, and no short range AA. When you lose all of that with the bonus of an "improved" heal, it's no actual super heal, it's really more of a passive DM than a better DM.

Prefer DM. Personally feel ya give up to much for a better heal.

That super heal has normal heal coefficient, meaning you only heal 50% pen damage and 10% citadel damage. Completely inferior to every other super heals (save for Sevastopol). Meanwhile you lose out radar/hydro which are both super important.

WG can lean into the hidden fun game by offering an opt out for subs and cvs, not hard to do. Just keep CVs and subs out of ranked, there's your fix. They just seem intent on not improving the game, it's baffling to watch.

For me it was pretty difficult to listen to you in the beginning of the match, the in-game sound was a bit too loud in this video. Other than that I miss the times when the DM was a no-fly zone!
