Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. We started out with Somnium, an O'day 272, moved onto Freebie, an Endeavour 32, and now are focusing on sailboat tours and working full time as teachers while we save up for our next boat.

Unlike Luke, I would not opt for a catamaran. I just love the way monohulls respond to the wind and the helm. I absolutely love the saloon of an Oyster. They are amazing. But I would not compare them to Nator Swans. The Oysters are a bit heavier and have more protected rudders. And the Swans will sail circles around the Oysters because of their light weight and strong rigs. Oyster or Swan? I'd take either in the 56 version. And I wouldn't worry about most weather or sea state.

probably the best nav station I've seen,might have missed it but listing fuel and water tan capacity is always helpful.Either way I'll take it,will you take a post dated check and a couple of iou's.One other suggestion,it would have been nice to see the view from inside out those large cabin windows.Lastly,your presentation's all seem a little dry,try interjecting a little humor into your delivery!Otherwise well done and congratulations and best wishes to you and your partner,as young parents beginning a great adventure!

Great to see you back. Hope everything is going well for you guys. Beautiful boat. I will assume the price is negotiable. The fact it wasn't covered effects the price and the RIB is at least deflated. I always wonder what's the story of the boat. It looks like someone put it up expecting to come back and didn't. I also wonder what about the personal effects on the boat? If you want you can check out Sailing Zingaro for an other Oyster yacht. His is different.

It looks well maintained. Engine, woodwork, newer b&g instruments etc. The small shaded outdoor space on center cockpit boats of this vintage is a major compromise tho.
@svechappe6075
@svechappe6075 Жыл бұрын
I agree, Jordan has a strong preference for center cockpit designs due to safety priorities, but at some point a boat gets big enough that an aft cockpit boat is sufficiently secure and you have a lot more outdoor space to live in. Our aft cockpit boat, at 54 feet and built in 2005, has a cockpit that is just as secure as any center cockpit design, but we enjoy at least double the space (probably more like triple) of a similar size center cockpit boat. When you consider that we spend most of our non-sleeping time in the cockpit, that's a big plus over the center cockpit designs, in my opinion.

Base price on a new Oyster 565 is $1.9M US, at today's exchange rate. You could reasonably expect to add at least another $200K - $300K in upgrades and add-on equipment. $750K for a well sorted used boat, even one that is 17 years old, doesn't seem that bad. I DO NOT understand owners who won't completely tidy up the boat for a video shoot! Remove the cushions, make sure everything is in it's proper place, etc. Saying it's "on the hard for the winter" seems lazy to me. If you want top dollar, you better make it look like it's worth it!

Very nice; Oyster's have a fine reputation. However, if my goal was to sail the Seven Seas, with a family, a stouter, more bulletproof and ultimately safer boat would be my preference. Needs a longer keel, needs better protection for the rudder from flotsam and jetsam. Sure, a quick sail to Bermuda, cruise the Grenadines. But sailing the world? The Roaring Forties? I doubt that's what this vessel is really intended for.

Don’t understand why a boat this small is worth more than most homes especially being a 2006. As we all know it’s a boat and a nice boat but it’s still a used boat and will require quit a bit of work to get it back into tip top shape. Possibly a few newer instruments.The sails will probably need to be replaced and if not most likely within the next few years. It’s a really nice boat with lots of great equipment but it isn’t a super yacht. I just don’t see and don’t understand the 750k price tag.

@@davidbrayshaw3529 Please don’t misunderstand me. I wasn’t trying to talk crap about the boat it is a really nice used sail boat and looks to be well cared for. I love boats and have been on many lakes but unfortunately I’ve never had the privilege or pleasure of getting to be on a boat in the ocean. I watch tons of sailing videos and enjoy every aspect of getting to see what’s it like. “Land Based” Houses require maintenance as well and sometimes lots of it. I’ve also met plenty of wives that can be pretty darn expensive too. Knowing what I know about building homes and what goes into them. Because of that I don’t really understand how a new or used sail boat or even a 45 foot motor yacht can cost more than a 500 thousand dollar land based home. With that said I hope that will get the chance to sail on the ocean before my health gets the best of me.
@davidbrayshaw3529
@davidbrayshaw3529 Жыл бұрын
@@P-J-W-777 I wasn't taking it that you were talking crap, I was merely having a laugh. There are a few reasons that I can think of that make yachts more expensive than homes, cubic foot per cubic foot, shall we say. Sales volume for one. Materials quality is another. Look at the timbers used in boat building as compared to house building. Not only is there no MDF, the solid timbers used are "A" grade and come at a premium price. Composites are also very expensive. Most contemporary yacht hulls require expensive moulds to be produced and they only get used "X" number of times. There's also plant to consider. A yacht takes up a lot of space while it's being built and someone's got to pay the rent on it. Then there's labour to consider. Everything, and I mean everything, on a yacht takes much longer to achieve than on a house. Nothing is straightforward. You can't just stand up a stud wall, put a spirit level on it and shoot a couple of nails into the corners to keep it standing, then clad and drywall it. You might as well throw your spirit level and string line in the bin. Just about everything is a compound shape that requires extensive measuring up and tuning up templates for an exact fit. Nothing is square and plumb. If you ever get a chance, stick your head through the door of a boat builder's workshop. It will fascinate you if you've got experience building.

Loveky boat for sone. Not for me though, as Centre Cockpit and Ketch rigged boats Mostly due to disability the majority I can't even get on or off them from a dinghy, plus both seriously Suck for Solar Panel installations and mean oretty much having to have another heavy maintenance and running expense Generator (frequently the Centre Cockpit boats seriously Suck below decks in hot places, they get like Compartmentalised Ovens in living and sleeping spaces, plus the Cockpits themselves are seriously lacking as outdoor living living spaces at Anchorvin Hot places as well. Plus, so many have really steep companionways withnlotsvif steps, so how fast are you going to get fed up with Skinned and bruised Shins and knees from going up and down them ? Safer for children, or are Centre Cockpits just really boring for children with no practical Safety advantage for children or anyone else over an aft Cockpit Boat ? Actually there is one CC Boat I've seen recently, which if younger and not disabled, I think I could enjoy living with. But it's not made by Oyster, and it isn't stupidly oversized, it's a Hunter 45 (always a very good idea to keep below 50ft unless rolling in money, as costs skyrocket from 50ft and up. Best wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
