I work for a small company who sell quality wooden gates. We use this exact Sikkens HLS + Filter 7 combination on all our gates. We believe it to be the very best solution (by a large margin) for outdoor timber care. Accept no substitutes! 👍

Do you do both HLS and Filter 7 plus for maintenance after 4-5 years?

You should be good to go with a maintenance overcoat of just Filter 7 plus, but if there were sections that had any severe weathering you might want to sand back and apply a coat of HLS and feather it in to the rest of the area. But in most cases a Filter 7 overcoat or two should do the trick.

Does it come on Matt instead of semi gloss?

Hi there, No it only comes in semi-gloss. It's rare in general to have an exterior varnish finish that is matt as the sheen is responsible for some of its durability. Also, after 2 years or so, any glossy surface exposed to weather will matt down on its own. But that should be taken as a sign to give it a top up. Hope that helps.

Hi! QUESTION: If one coat of Cetol HLS plus and 2 coats of Cetol 7 Filter plus have been applied on siding about 10 yeas ago, can we clean the surface with tsp soap and reapply 2 coats of Cetol 7 Filter plus only? Thank you! (Note: This siding was treated with Sikkens products about 4 times before every 5 to 7 years.)

Providing the stain is in good condition and the previous coatings have not gone back to bare wood in any areas then 2 coats of the Filter 7 can be applied. If any areas are back to bare wood, these areas will require a coat of Sikkens Cetol HLS first directly onto the bare wood.

Had to apply the filter 7 first top coat in -3 degrees dry weather, any idea how many days it will take to dry before I can apply final coat please? I have 3 days dry weather forecast.

Most products like this aren't designed to be used in extreme cold like that. Not only will you have drying time problems, but the product may not cure correctly and hinder it doing it's job properly. We are advising customers that outside jobs really have to wait until the spring now. Not worth the risk.

Hi there, using this for the first time & can’t read the tiny writing on the tin so was watching to see if I need to sand between coats? Also didn’t see him apply 2 coats of the finish coat so now I’m wondering if 1 coat of each is enough?

Hi, there's no need to sand between the last two coats. It wouldn't do it any harm to give it a light sand for smoothness, but do allow the previous coat to harden sufficiently. If you want to discuss this further, our experts are always on hand. Call 01303 477555

Maintenance coat just one, HLS or filter 7?.

Generally it's 1-2 coats of the last product applied. Whether you have used just HLS or finished with F7, you'd only ever have to maintain the top coat.
