It is important to distinguish the difference in the suggestions between these two videos. First glance you might think there is a contradiction, but there isn't. Difference is about position and preflop action, and c-bet vs. raising. Maybe it is obvious, but I had to rewatch the first one to help me understand. Keep up the good content!

I've lost more chips with Ace, King than with other starting hands. That's all it is--a big Ace. If it doesn't connect with the flop and you're up against a couple opponents who might have hit the flop, prepare to let it go. No sense in wishing for an Ace or King to show. It's gotten to the place where I dread this hand.
@nitthegrit7544 Жыл бұрын
Great advice on playing AK, thank you! I especially appreciate your commentary on avoiding betting out on those coordinated middling boards. I see players make that mistake a LOT, because over-calls in late position are so often hands like 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, 8-9, and 9-10 suited types of hands. So many of those calling ranges smash these boards with pair + draw, or even 2pair, that it's complete suicide to lead out (out of position especially) with AK. Many of those boards will contain set possibilities as well from players calling you in later positions, with hands like 55 through 88.

Generally good but caution against putting too much out on J3T. AJ, KJ, QJ, and J10 are frequent callers preflop unless your pre-flop bet is huge.,. So measure your C bet to pot control and make fold to a raise easier.

I play mostly small stakes home games but they have a very dynamic range of players...and that dynamic is always even more varied by whom is drinking what...lol Honestly I just try to remember to play it and remember my position, trying to nail what the other players tendencies when alcohol is involved in home games is a PITA, so I just try to remember the KISS philosophy, Keep It Simple Stupid...hehe. I will only mix the checks in if I am in position as I get to see how the rest of the table reacts to the flop, I also can try to get tricky or even brave if the flop has equity even if AK misses, like Q, 10, 7, or something like that. Great vid, keep them coming!!

Great topic for me. What you say makes perfect sense and hopefully that is what I was doing anyway, but very nice to have the confirmation that this is a good strategy. Sometimes it feels like I just want to get it all in with the hand preflop if there is some money at stake to avoid having to make tough decisions after the flop, but that is obviously not the optimal way to play.

Final hand of the night between me the 2nd player and the 3rd player in chip count. Dude goes all-in with 500 chips and I call him. He has AK(s) and I have 87(o). Won with a pair of 7's and finished second in a cash tournament. I know I got lucky ad hell but I wouldnt of called if I didnt think I had a shot,a feeling that I might win. If I would of lost that hand then I would of been left with about 200-300 chips and been way behind the first two players but I got lucky. Thats what poker ultimately comes down to though skill does matter big time.

Great video. Had AK last weekend. Was in 10th out of 14 players left, and was bleeding chips. I raised preflop with 2 callers. Flop comes J J 9 rainbow. I bet big, got one caller. Eventually, I end up all in. I figured that with a big preflop raise, he could have had a small or middle pair. I didn't see a Jack, nor AA or KK, since I had one of each. One hand I thought might do me in, and I was right. He had QQ, the only hand that concerned me, and I was out. Just wondering if anyone thinks they would have done it differently. I lost, but seemed to have all but the one logical hand covered. I figured I played it right, but just got beaten. Anyone?
@Psiber_Syn11 ай бұрын
You're a fish for playing AK like that. On that JJ9 board texture you'd want to slow down anyway because most people defend 3-bets with their bullshit Broadway and suited connector combos that all are likely to have a J in their range. All you had to do was bet 25% on the flop to get information and OVER fold verse raises or floats
@jjlenny11 ай бұрын
Valid points. I just did not have enough chips to do 25 percent. I was low in chips. My all in was not all that many, though this was months ago so my memory is not great anymore. But how do you put him any hands but the one he hit? I still think there were plenty of hands i had him beaten on, and unlikely to have had the one that he did. I appreciate your input, but "fish" is wayyyyy too dramatic there.

The strategy for playing AKoff depends much more upon position, stack-sizes, type of table (NL,limit,tournament), and degree of freshness. There are times when the Open Shove makes sense. A third of the time you're going to hit. You've gotten max action pre-flop. Win or lose it is a good time to consider your options and maybe call it a Night.

AK pre flop. We raise pre flop. Get a caller. They obviously called with something. We have AK blockers, so pocket pairs, and face cards are DEFINITELY in their Range. I’ve learned with AK and a flop of ANY face card other than AK hit my opponent. I C bet, they call. Telling me straight up they are beating me. I’m done losing because I need to see their cards. They hit it. Congratulations to you! The math ALWAYS WORKS IN YOUR FAVOR! Not in mine!
