Because her "pop/r&b music" technique makes her a lot more money and it's what has made her so famous. Maybe it's not great technique, but it has a unique sound that sets her apart from other artists. As a particular fan of national anthems, I was super impressed by the inclusion of the Swiss anthem. I recognized it immediately. Well played. My view of Ariana was also changed by this performance. I've heard a lot of people criticize her, for singing musical theater in a slightly different way than we expect. Given how much success she has had with here "pop schtick," it's impressive to me that she can still reign most of that in, be very respectful of the material (she IS a theater geek, clearly), and bring something slightly different to music theater stuff that she does.

Have you seen Ariana on chat shows? She's smart, naturally funny, respectful and on top of her game. Very impressive in a way that many pop singers are not. So many come across as vacuous, self-obsessed and closed. Ariana has not fallen into that trap. I'm mostly a metal head but my daughter introduced me to Ariane Grande and I could hear the talent. She could sing rock if she chose. Reminds me of Nicole Scherzinger - sings pop, rock and even opera like a beast but is so underrated.
