Generally, the "Limit" mode of cruise control does that sign recognition as an option. Otherwise, it's a pretty standard mode in European cars, which allows you to set a speed limit, which the car won't exceed (unless you press the glass pedal all the way to the floor - that's when it gets deactivated).

I was surprised at the level of equipment and quality of the interior when I test drove a 3008. As I'm from the UK it's uncommon for Peugeots of old to be so well made. Naturally there's a bigger price tag for this car which may put people off spending that kind of money on a Peugeot, but it seems well made and sets itself apart or stands out quite a little against other compact suv in it's class. I've never really desired a Peugeot before the 3008 came along. I am tempted.

Well between, Bugatti, Peugeot, Citroën and Renault, you can review a looooot of quircky cars. Compared to the cars you've been used to in the US, I strongly recommend you review more French cars, they're not necessarily the best in the world, but it'll be a quirk feist for you. Also, the French prononciation for Peugeot, is actually closer to your British imitation. There is probably a video on KZbin about how to pronounce French car brand names but hey whatever, most of my fellow French citizens would not be able to pronounce "Mustang" correctly or even "Doug" for that matter. At least, you had the honesty to address the topic in the video. And thanks for reviewing a Peugeot, it was so weird for me, as a French person who used to live in PR, to watch you drive a French car (other than a Bugatti I mean), in the US.
@wilfridhychtwn21076 жыл бұрын
You forgot DS, Alpine and PGO ;)
@WildBilly916 жыл бұрын
Well, you can say so, true, but PGO is not really a brand it's more like a small business building custom stuff out of other manufacturers parts with designs inspired from older classics such as the Porsche 356. As for Alpine, that thing is 100% a Renault (same engine as the Megane RS, with a lower hp output, and a lot of interior parts from the Renault parts bin), and the same goes for DS, it used to be Citroën models, but they are mostly Citroën with a different styling. And Alpine only has one model, the A110, and in France, DS only sells 2 models right now, it works far better in China lol.
@wilfridhychtwn21076 жыл бұрын
Well then the Mercedes X class and the Renault Alsakan are nothing more than a rebranded Nissan Navara. The Mercedes A class uses Renault engines. All SEAT and most of Audi are in fact VW's with another design. And what about the Jeep Renegade ? Nothing more than a FIAT 500x . ;)
@sn4tx6 жыл бұрын
Kaan Yildiz yes this. They say they will still be using psa platforms but with separate manufacturing and engineering standards. It’s no longer a Citroen’s sub brand. The idea is Making DS the groups premium brand. Being a step up compared to the other brands. But as always it’s image will always have the prejudice of being just a Citroen rebranded and re styled. People will always say stuff like that. But Oh just allow to say I do think you are wrong when you talk about the DS7. Ds7 doesn’t use the same platform as the 3008 but the same as the 5008 and Citroen C5 aircross. So yes Citroen does have a comparable model. But well separating the brand from Citroen as a marketing move doesn’t go as far as making them totally apart. It’s still all the same crap inside even if you have a better interior to look at inside a DS, while you waiting on the side of the road for assistance
@donkmeister6 жыл бұрын
Bugatti is German. Nothing French on those cars except the "French Racing Blue" paint option, but then you might as well say it's British because you can get it in green. Citroen stopped making brilliant cars with the CX and their last good car was the C5 3.0 hdi. Poo-geot haven't made a good car in living memory (ignoring Citroen models... This is a Citroen DS5 with a Peugeot badge). Renault's last proper car was the Willy 3 around 20 years ago.

Fun fact everyone: the Peugeot is Mexico registered because that is where it’s registered. The reason why the speedometer is in mph is because the smart display knew when it crossed the border and switched the mph. Mexico is the only country in North America other than a couple of Caribbean Islands where Peugeots sell. If Doug did his video in Mexico instead of California, the Peugeot’s speedometer would have been in km/h. It’s cool when cars like this visit from Mexico. I one time saw a Toyota Hilux in the U.S. obviously a Mexico license plate but it was such an exciting moment!

I can't figure out if the car companies don't think Mexican lives are worth as much, or that the Mexican people think that themselves. How much more would you spend for a car to save your families lives? Compare the small cars in the US and Mexico and if the Mexican even version has airbags, count how many are in each example.

Peugeot makes quite decent cars. I'm guessing they quit after that short lived experiment in the early 90's when they exported some of their cars to US that were not met with much enthusiasm. PSA that also includes Citroen is largely owned by French government and they have enough business revenue in Europe. The 3008 is not bad either, they used the succesful design elements of hugely popular small SUV's on a family car and it proved succesful, their 3008 and 5008 appeal to younger buyers more than Toyota Verso from that time or the boring looking VW Touran.

I think the real reason why Peugeot will never enter the US market is because they have a 30% market share in Iran. In fact, Iran is Peugeot's second largest revenue producer after France. Because of US sanctions on Iran, they only have the option to sell cars in one country or the other. So it wouldn't make financial sense for Peugeot to abandon such a large market share and take the risk of investing and selling cars in an already competitve US market. There's a video by the New York Times that explains this in detail.
@Dingus042 жыл бұрын
This would very quickly put every mainstream Japanese car brand off the U.S. market if they started selling them in the USA. Almost fully loaded and looks like a luxury car and it’s only $25,000. Are you serious. This would destroy all competition.

Ok Doug, this video confirms me what I was thinking for long: your appreciation is lacking a lot of objectivity. I am french and this 3008 is a best seller since it has been released because it has everything: a nice exterior style, a nice interior style, the iCockpit dashboard, quality construction is "german" and the prices are not as expensive as German cars. The previous car to be as much successful here was the first generation of Renault Scenic. Of course no car is perfect (what is perfect in this world) but such iconic car that meets exactly the need of its time just deserved for you a grade close but under the average: 49 ouf of 100 so what car deserve 95% ???????? I don't mean the 3008 deserves 95% but 49% for such brillant success is totally underestimated from you. 49% is for an avarage car such as VW: very conservative and lack of originality, ie a car that do the job but low flavour. The 3008 has a typical style that is the source of inspiration for all the new Peugeot cars released since. The 2 tones color was called "coupe franche" ie "sharp cut" and wasn't very successful in France, maybe too original. There is big effort of style everywhere in the design of this car and it's too bad you did not mention a lot of them such for example the rear lights called claws because they remind the lion ones... I am not criticising you because of chauvinism nor because I drive that car or a Peugeot: I don't have any conflict of interest saying this car is a phenomenon, just telling how it is seen here in France and more globally in Europe because it sells well not only in France. I am criticising you because your tests are not as good as I can expect for a car enthusiast guy :/ When you are evaluating a Cadillac or an exotic or expensive car, I don't bave enough elements to see if you're balanced or not but here it is easy for me to see how far from objectivity is your tests when you rank the best car of its segment with an anonymous 49 out of 100.

@@bananacapitol "No car in this segment has a much higher DougScore" This is not the point: the best car of its segment deserve a better grade than 49% that's it. 49% is for an average car not for the best one. N.B: I don't say the 3008 is the best car ever and not because I am French. I say here in Europe the 3008 is the leading car on its segment and Doug ranks it with a very average 49% This is the point: Doug gives too bad grades and not only for the 3008: this is what I want to say.

420sx In french the vocals have special sound when join with others(not every combination), so "eu" sounds like and extended "u" and "eo" like an extended "o". Then there's a weird rule where you don't pronaunce the last letter (I don't remember well the exceptions to this) so that's why you don't hear the "t" at the end, so the "correct" pronunciation is indeed "Poo-yo".

We have quite a few Peugeot and Citroen (same company )vehicles here in the U.K. they’re nice and quirky definitely, but not very reliable they break down and fail a lot, French Cars last typically 3-5 yrs at best, I guess this is one of reasons why they don’t sell them to the USA

Paul Illingworth I’m sorry that’s now bullshit my friend. I unfortunately work for Peugeot but I have to say they have some of the most reliable engines on the market at the moment. It’s the Germans now like Mercedes with cheese timing chains and vw with head issues and turbos failing. Plus Peugeot have there engines in Volvo, Ford, Mazda, Vauxhall, Jaguar, landrover. Couldn’t be that bad 🤷♂️

Oh yeah, the engines are really good, but there's much more to a car than the engine.

Diesel 8290 I had some of the old legendary Peugeot and Citroen Cars inc diesels back in their day were good cars ,the newer ones in my experience are garbage now I’m afraid myself and friends have had the newer Peugeots & Citroen Cars and they fall apart not like the old 205 / 309 / 405 days, the 406/407 308 207/ 208 that I know of blew head gaskets at 36k - 50k wouldn’t call that particularly great , I’ll stick with BMW Or Mercedes or Honda do 200k no issues, old Peugeots used to do very high miles no issues new ones do not, not without heaps of expensive repairs and we’re not talking maintenance we’re talking poor quality build.

We could use some well designed compact SUV’s in the United States. There are only a couple such as the xc40. Wish Peugeot would come back to the USA.

@@zzcolby27 my guess is that they've changed their minds about that. Don't know how true it is, or why that decision was taken.
