You get to this stage on most builds, well at least I do !. Go off do something completly different for a few days, it works. BTW it's looking great, you should be proud of what you've done.

Have just got my dads '87 1.9 205 GTi started after crank no start issue a) get yourself an bulb/incandescent test light, clip end to battery positive, probe to negative side of ignition coil b) crank car, test light bulb should PULSE. If it doesn't pulse, the coil is not receiving a signal from the ignition module (which is a basic on/off switch) c) if it's a phase 1 205 gti, check the wiring at the distributor - the two wires coming out can be extremely fragile - make sure they are in tact. d) Unplug distributor connector, multimeter on ohms, probe connector and crank - should be a solid reading when cranking, indicating the pick up inside the distributor is reading correctly e) make sure ignition coil wiring is correct!

I relate, I bought a BMW motorcycle a couple of months ago that has turned out to be a complete problem child. I've ridden it maybe 200 kilometers between problems coming up and it spending weeks in the workshop until I can find the time to work on it intermittently. Incredibly demoralizing having to call it a day to go scour some parts website, and sit around until everything gets there.

Had several 205s in my time. Some might say I was a glutton for punishment.... I certainly had enough problems with mine, though the GTi was the most troublesome by far. I got drawn in by the pretty looks, the TWS Imolas, the Miami Blue paint and grey leather.... such a fool! :) Once she's running you'll absolutely love it - no question. They are all about the drive. Keep going.

I have the Exact same Situation with my W124 Right now. Should be a reliable daily on purchase. Sparks and Distributor are the issue as well. Wish you luck. Kinda feels nice to know that I am not alone with a Problem about which I told everyone I will avoid this time. Especially the wife is becoming unhappy.

Almost every time I work on a car I get to that point where I just set the tools down and leave. Maybe just for lunch break, but at least take a breath. Also, really enjoy the camera/light work, very classy style, well above most on YT.

How does that brass paint you use on the bolts hold up with time? Looks good while fresh

It depends. It is obviously non-conducting which can be a problem and unlike conventional plating or coating it wears more easily during assembly or with abrasion. Once in place it can actually outlast a plated part so long the coating isn‘t damaged a lot. Effectively it is paint, but I‘ve grown to like it a lot for certain applications and reaaaally quick solutions. Ready to be bolted in after 30min and a million times better than cold blue or plain rusty hardware. Didn‘t really anticipate the french using this many specialty fasteners…

It‘s not the issue as such, but I don‘t think that came across very well. I was out of the shop for most of the last two weeks and this completely messed up the episode I actually wanted to show. The new pump is already on order. 😩😂

Würth Brass paint. Also suitable for quick yellow plating refurbs.

I'm guessing you've already tried this but....Tachy relay? It sounds like a classic Tachy relay failure to me; as you no doubt know, really common for these to go and give this exact scenario...

The car had fuel, so the tachy relay was out of question. Not saying it isn't half broken, but currently functional.
