You know what I find so amazing about this version of Eric? Is how when he is dying, *actually dying*, he is still slightly humorous. Or, how this man, who has known darkness all of his life, is the one thing he never imagined himself being: a light in that darkness. Because, no matter how distorted his appearance is, he still finds a way to laugh and put other's reactions before his own.

his mask is so expressive and he has such big, beautiful eyes! It is nice that he has a father who loves him in spite of his deformity. Erik is much more humanized in this than in any other version of The Phantom Of The Opera. Charles Dance brought so much heart and soul to this legendary character. Erik is such a tragic and romantic figure, I love him and would never have fainted at the sight of his face like Christine did, no matter how bad it was.

This version of PotO is so sad😭 it always makes me cry because it actually shows him dying and shows his emotions more. This is by far the best version of Phantom ever. The only thing I don't like is that they didn't show his deformation. But overall it's still amazing.

Eric is dying from some illness before he takes Christine down, I read about it in a book. Besides, Christine knows about the pain he has caused to him, and singing is the way she chooses to say him good bye. She doesn't know about the trap, she cannot be blamed because of it. At least, Eric loves her so that he lets her go with the Count of Chagny so there is someone who cares about her In the book I read, Christine and Eric are let alone while he dies, and Christine has also a baby from Eric

All the Christines dont love him in the way HE wants or believes - as a woman to love him totally as a man - not just a friend.Yet, also, in this, different because he remembers how his mother loved him, its compounded by Christine looking like his mother(weird).I suppose he does love her, but perhaps he hopes she would love him unconditionally as his mother did, because of that.The ONLY woman to have kissed him.

He conveniently wears it every time the camera shows his face, too. It never really says what he's dying from. The plague? A broken heart? A secondary infection brought on by overzealously destroying things in a fit of rage? Ah, guess it doesn't really matter...

Actually it can if it's intense enough. Most of the time a truly broken heart just makes people ill, but then add the fact that he lives in a super unhygienic place, of course his health can get worse. But there have been some rare cases where people died of intense broken hearts.
