I like Alan Moore's version of his origin a little better actually. And his version and stranger is an angel who refused to take sides when Lucifer rebelled against God. He was cast from heaven and denied from hell when he descended to see the former angels in hell they ripped off his wings and cast him out from there as well now he is a stranger with no home that wanders the mortal world

This is essentially a mixture of 2 of the 5 origins we have been given for the Stranger (the more recent Judas origin and the vengeful family man/wandering jew origin from WAAAAY back). It's possible to actually reconcile 4 of the 5 using the time traveler origin as a framing device but the angelic origin (which actually has some evidence behind it) does not reconcile with the others.

Well, the one where he challenged God and an angel about whether it is better to turn evil to good, and he took his own life so that he would die with his family and community. To me that's kind of bad ass, holding God to higher standards. Nothing to be ashamed about with that origin (which, to me, is the best origin).

I’m not exactly sure what top 10 list you’re talking about, but the Phantom stranger definitely deserves to be on it!! he can be considered almost more powerful then Eclipso and Spectre, except for the fact that his power isn’t usually meant to be used for a fight, he is only used to guide and maintain the cosmic order.

Yes...and he is!! Yet God in heaven has decreed he has a specific roll. Hence the stranger cannot be killed or wiped from existence....so even beings such as the Spectre living tribunal. The beyonder etc can't erase him from existence. But these beings are powerful enough to cause him pain and suffering

It's not true to say Jesus' teachings violated Jewish and Roman law. It's true that Jesus disagreed with the Temple hierarchy on the interpretation of certain things, but on each occasion, Jesus was able to support his interpretation by referring to Jewish law itself, which supported him. This infuriated the hierarchy, because it demonstrated to the people, that they had been interpreting things to suit themselves. As for the Romans - there is Jesus' famous instruction - Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, but give to God what is God's. That is why Pilate washed his hands when trying Jesus - because he was unable to find any ground, under Roman law, for allowing Jesus to be crucified, yet he had to allow it to go ahead to appease the Temple authorities. Pilate even tried to have Jesus released, by offering a pardon to prisoner that day, hoping the people would pick Jesus. But the Temple authorities had everyone cry for the release of Barabbas instead.

@@ComicOrigins I've always wondered about that inconsistency. The Phantom Stranger is roughly equal to Pandora in the current run of the comics. Pandora easily beat the Seven Deadly Sins, who each claimed that they could end the multiverse with a blink of their eye. So how was Constantine able to capture the entire Trinity? He even said that the Justice League Dark fights beings that make the Trinity of Sin look like small change. How? How much more powerful can you get? And how can the Justice League Dark take care of all of that? Sorry for ranting, this is more directed towards the writers of the Justice League Dark. They seemed to have weakened the Trinity a great deal from what the rest of DC intended them to be. Personally I like thinking that the Trinity of Sin are among the most powerful beings in the magical community of DC.
