Yup... the first song I heard by them was "Soulflower" from The Brand New Heavies Rhyme Experience album. I loved it immediately. They didn't even sound like a new group. They already sounded seasoned and mature. So when their album dropped, I copped it because I remembered them from The Brand New Heavies joint. Great debut, but my favorite joint by them is their second one, Labcabincalifornia. A masterpiece in '95 that got overshadowed by the heavyweights, like Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and The Infamous. J. Dilla did his best work with The Pharcyde, imo. It was like he was made for them. "Runnin" is an even greater song than "Passing Me By," imo.

I saw pharcyde on tour with Funkdoobiest and cypress hill... ALL on there first albums. Pharcyde use to break dance and put on a show! Son Doobie was breaking bottles over his head jumping from the speakers. B Real was crowd surfing and Mosh pit was sick. That was the SICKEST Concert i went to in the early 90s

Seems like Tre always wanted to be a singer or more artsy fartsy kind of dude. Which is cool but he's not a strong enough vocalist to carry an entire song/album just singing. Some people are just better in groups. Fatlip I think is strong enough to be a solo rapper AND brings a lot to the group.

See the thing is you need time apart From one another. Once you do shows and studio time That's a lot time together. You need space to one self and have clarity in mind. That's why Freestyle Fellowship Is still going strong...they do music together but have solo project as well. SPACE IS THE KEY WORD!!!

Sadly, this is not an uncommon fate for groups packed with so much talent. But, fortunately, we've been blessed to experience their groundbreaking art. I pray for peace & love to all of them. Without question, one of my top Hip Hop groups ever. Rap, since, write, dance... They did it all & in a way that's all their own. No one has dared to copy their sound.

Screw making records. Touring was always the bulk of money for a rap group anyway and especially when that music making era has taken its toll. Pharcyde got mega hit songs that they audience remembers word for word, melody for melody. You don't have to be all up under each other like that to make that paper. Go to tour town do your radio and internet interviews get your hotal rooms and stay out of each others way but make that paper you are old for creating those nostalgic songs everyone from that era remembers.

Something don't add up with Imani's story. He said Tre wanted to leave because he couldn't be creative with Fatlip. That may have been true then but Tre has been making good music with Fatlip the last few years. If the breakup was between Tre and Lip, why they working together now? To me, it seems like Imani is salty about the past or he's leaving out some of the story that may be his fault.

At some point in human civilization, bands/group will have to recognize they have to gave each other creative space. I hate hearing guys say "he messed up the group by trying to do a solo album". Maybe he wanted to do stuff that you guys hated on/thought was corny. Maybe he wanted to just hear his own voice for a while.

(6:26) So they basically broke up becayse of tre, fatlip wanted to be a solo artist and always doubted the group. Tre didn't want other members of the group to work with fatlip saying that he was too negative. So they made a choice tre or fatlip, Fatlip left .
