Payroll restrictions show your hand and every baseball exec knows Jerry’s job is on the line and will be desperate to make something happen. Phillies actually are known to spend money on free agents and ownership is to blame for putting Jerry in this position with the league.

You may be right in terms of the parameters of ownership giving Jerry but can’t continue to be the GM of a team and have a historic starting rotation and not make the playoffs year after year and continue to miss on your offensive pickups.

@@jarronborn The guys he picked up ALL had career down years, tell me another time that happened? If they hit to their norm we win the west. He isn’t going to hit on every trade. Ownership needs to give him and Justin more money to spend every offseason. Christian Walker is literally the PERFECT fit at 1B. We need another high leverage reliever as well. Jerry and Justin absolutely deserve some blame, but the majority of it goes on the owners. How’re you supposed to build a perennial contender when you have MULTIPLE holes on a roster and only 16 mill to spend?

I agree with you. My blame is not on Jerry other than to say as a GM you can’t miss on most of the offensive additions. More payroll would definitely increase the likelihood you’re going to hit on a quality bat but your track record as a GM also can’t be, “I can only get good bats if I spend a ton of money.” I agree that Walker would be an ideal fit. I don’t feel comfortable relying on Robles, and our entire infield outside of Raley. Cause all the success of Crawdoew and Robles have been in small samples.

Rojas deserved a Golden Glove award last year. Resign him and get him in the batting cage with Edgar Martinez. Maybe he hits over .300 for a few months like he did last year.

I actually laughed out loud when y’all said that bohm/India are in the same universe, that’s so true. Phillies are crazy for asking for Kirby or Gilbert. Give us Bryce Harper for Gilbert straight up if that’s the case

19:37 i think a huge reason the Ms feel so desperate for another high leverage reliever is because our offense has been so atrocious. I think if we found a couple bats and our guys find their groove next year, the glaring hole in the bullpen might shrivel up some. Then idk maybe trade some farm for an additional high leverage guy at the deadline if we're seriously contending?

I don't understand the vitriol. What hasn't been touched on anywhere is just how desperate is Dipoto? His job is on the line, no doubt. I'm sure that he would LOVE to add a deep post-season run to his resume. Dombrowski is shooting for the moon hoping that Dipoto is that desperate. Will something happen later on that is more reasonable? No doubt. Right now, getting ire up without a complete understanding of the situation is a bit premature.

Doesn't seem to make sense trading for Hoerner, who seems like a longer term acquisition with Young approaching. Unless Young is traded. Trade options suck. Philly wanted a starter for Bohm, which is laughable. Theres no world where i trade Andres Munoz for Nico hoerner. Hoerner is a below average bat that adds defense but not much else.

Hoerner's WAR the last 3 Seasons is 4.2 , 5.1 . 3.7 , and can play GG LEVEL SS and 2B AND has stolen 94 bags in the last 3 years and is 11.5M for the next 2 Years . Wake up .

His OPS, and OPS+ hover around 730, and 102. And has never hit 10 home runs. He's alright, but not worth a closer.

Established Major Leaguer: you talked a bunch about this and left two names off the Mariner should have on this list: either of the two Mitch’s. Might have to include cash but that could work.

If we could get Willi Castro for second base, I’d be thrilled! Maybe even get Miranda for third and Vazquez as a backup catcher and send Garver, Hancock, Locklear, Canzone and Logan Evans packing. Garver $12 m & Vazquez $10 is similar money. Castro is making $6 m, so fits in our budget. Leaves money for Turner or Santana. Another option I like is buying low on Baty. Probably cost Hancock and Snider/Bazardo type reliever or Logan Evans & Snider/Bazardo.

It’s light IMO. I want Shaw in that deal. Munoz is an All Star on a team friendly deal with 4 years left. Gilbert is a Cy young contender with 3 years left. Valuing Bellinger as his 2023 self is dangerous. I’ve seen worse though

@@jordanwithers992 so the phillies tried to get kirby or gilbert for Bohm so give up miller and prospects get something in return that would help the team and as far as Bellinger goes gives the team another impact bat in the line up and cubs and phillies would have to eat some of the contracts

You do realize Hoerner has put up 4.2 ,5.1,3.7 WAR the last 3 Years , GG level defense and averages 31 SBs a Year in that time , Jed Hoyer would be fired on the spot or at least deserve it if He traded for a broken pen arm , Closer is a minimum , Now Ford the Catcher makes sense positionally for the Cubs but that seems almost light

It's because the rest of the league is aware of our (artificial) payroll restrictions, and so are able to squeeze us dry when it comes to trades. It's why we tend to trade with other teams in similar payroll positions, like the Diamondbacks

They ABSOLUTELY should not be traded anytime soon. We have a few years left of control on both of them. The only pitcher we should be willing to trade is Castillo.

@samfc23 Castillo has Value, Snell and Glassnow from the Dogers are around the same age as Castillo and teams like the Giants Padres Red Sox could probably use someone like Castillo in their rotation to help compete with teams like the Dodgers and Yankees

Both Kirby and Gilbert have received Cy Young votes and finished in the top-10 the last two years. "Slightly above-average" is not accurate.

I would do Castillo but if they won’t take that, I would do George for Bohm + bat or two. Logan is likely to sign an extension and has expressed wanting to stay here, especially if Cal is here. George has not expressed a desire publicly to stay and I think he’s a Yankee the moment he hits FA. That’s just gonna happen. He grew up in NY a huge fan of Jeter and Posada. I would try to get something for him now.

Arenado to Dodgers, Muncy to Seattle along with Feddee for Louis Castillo to St. Louis. Money for Seattle breaks just about even. Feddee gives a solid one year pitcher for rotation. Clears payroll after 2025 plus Muncy gives some power and high opb for 2025. Cards get a good pitcher for about what they would pay Arenado and if needed could easily trade him.

Cubs fan here.I don’t see us trading Hoerner just for a reliever. A straight-up swap of Nico Hoerner for Luis Castillo doesn’t intrigue me, especially since Castillo’s contract runs through at least 2027. He’s a very solid starting pitcher, but still.

Yup. It’s a weird thing because it’s tough to line up well on a 1-1 swap. And obviously, the more both sides add, the more unlikely a deal is. I think you can find a deal, it’s just not going to be a simple one
