Jerry cares about his partner and knows that basking in sadness for people that sometimes can't be helped will drive you insane. The what ifs just aren't. All you can do is keep moving. Felt bad for Mike, but respected that he prayed for her lost soul.

This is going is going to sound weird, because I remember this episode when it first aired. When Logan is interviewing the cult member, and they're relating experiences, I got the vibe that Detective Logan liked her, and vice versa because of their private school upbringing, and if he didn't like her he understood her. As they show Detective Logan is kneeling, you see his broken heart and expression, it is at that brief moment, for like 3 seconds, I felt what Detective Logan feeling; just pure sadness. Even till this day, 20 years later, I can not shake the memory of that feeling and scene.

That was my thought too. Though both tended to joke around, you know they cared when you saw how they acted in scenes like this. Another is when Lenny sees his dead daughter. These are the two most heartbreaking episodes because both have lost people they loved or cared for.

Being an agnostic the last approximately 25 years, having been raised by religious Missouri Synod Lutheran parents, I had this final scene with Mike Logan in my mind during the last 3 of my 4 grandparents' funerals, all of whom were generally religious. Upon reflection, viewing their bodies for the last time, I silently crossed myself, with this exact scene, episode, and sequence in mind. This scene, and episode in general, always creates a lump in my throat and brings a tear to my eye every single time, at a minimum.

I remember this episode myself. This is what you get when someone tries to say they are something that they are not. Even after con artists's such as Jim Jones, and David Koresh, we still haven't learned that there is no such thing as a human "prophet". These are the criminals who turn people against having faith in God. We start to become cynical about there possibly being a higher power, and begin to think that all religions leaders are huckster's like this guy...

This scene offered four of the best people at their positions. Stone, Schiff, Briscoe and Logan. They will forever be the iconic defenders of justice. As good as Kincaid was (and she was!) I preferred Robinette and off-camera Cragen as the Captain. Hindsight is 20-20. The reason given by the show and Noth for his departure was that he felt after the replacement of Grievy and Sorretta, he should have had a shot at being the lead cop. He of course was wrong about that (as far as executive decisions were concerned (Noth was a virtual unknown and too young at the time). But had he stuck it out he out he would have made history in the role he arguably was born to play. His Logan was so good, he could return to the franchise in "Criminal Intent" and make it better than it was. Had he stayed with "Law & Order" he would have been the lead cop (AND the appropriate age at the time) after Orbach's death and been the ONLY original member of the cast at its twenty-year end. As good as Curtis was (AND he was!) no-one ever did it better than NOTH! Stone would have eventually aged out of his role and in later years, Waterson as McCoy and Lowell as Ross were very able replacements in their positions but the hey-day of the series was the original cast. In an interview, Wolf lamented being ordered by executives to "Oprahfy" the show after season three or face cancelation when we lost Cragen and Robinette unceremoniously.

@PatrolOfficer161
@PatrolOfficer161 4 жыл бұрын
@@ericebjonesii1378As I stated in my last sentence, the network ordered women in the cast. Oprah was such a gigantic hit on television at the time it was referenced to Wolf he had to Oprahfy the show to capitalize on the growing, burgeoning female audience! Dann Florick and Richard Brooks were given their walking papers despite their stellar portrayals. If you follow the show, every time a character exits they have a sendoff! (Grievy, Sorretta and EVERYONE after that!) Not so with Cragen and Robinette. The season four opener had Van Buren and Kinkaid with NO EXPLANAITION as to where their predecessors had gone. I think if Wolf had a few more years of monster hits under his belt he could have opposed the edict. It was Wolf who wrote in sporatic Cragen parts for Florick in L&O and a couple of years later did the SVU spin-off so he could continue his relationship with the Cragen character. It all came out in the wash I suppose.

I could just imagine Mike on the other end saying, "They drank The Kool-Aid", causing Stone to develop that quiver in his voice, when he said "Oh, My God..." only to cut back to Lenny coming in, and giving Mike his support while he was grieving, especially over the one girl he had talked to earlier about his faith. The cult was inspired by The Manson Family & the Tate-LaBianca murders, but the ending echoed the mass suicide of the People's Temple in Jonestown, Guyana.

Come back with your name in the credits of the show, and then we might be able to take you seriously. Until such time, show us how it is done and hold your breath for as long as the camera is on you. 5-8 minutes ought to be enough, it is your big close-up!
