If the translation tech was all contained within the earpiece, they might have something. As it is, you still need a phone to configure everything and do the actual work, so all they're selling is an expensive blue tooth earpiece set along with the app (that's the actual product) because they want to lock out other equipment to charge a premium. If their app was so great, it'd sell itself without the need to resort to gouging people on the headsets.
@StopDropRetro8 жыл бұрын
Exactly, if they had a great app I'm sure it would be successful all on its own. This is just a scam to sell expensive blue tooth earpieces that can't work on anything else.

You've got to take a look at their new campaign. The Ambassador
I used a live translator a few weeks ago. It required you train it for both speakers and took about 10 mins. After that it was pretty speedy. You made your statement and paused to end. The translation was immediate but of course there was the second of end pause. A lot less than you see in your video. It even allowed people to talk at the same time. The translations were quite good. I speak both of the languages used and did not really need the device. So when I compared the translation to what I would have said it did okay for a machine.

Yup. When you take this device to France and offer it to someone, they'll answer, in English: "What is this? For translation? Why? I speak English." I was in the Netherlands last year. I expected some language barrier. There was absolutely none. Only one person I met didn't speak enough English to be understood. They actually felt BAD that they couldn't speak it better. I didn't speak much Spanish when I met my future wife. We used the REAL language of love (body language, if you catch my drift) until I took a community college Spanish 1 class to get the basic grammar down. Then, all I needed to do was just listen and let her teach me with our everyday interactions until I got to where I am now. I'm far from a master at Spanish, but we can communicate well enough to prevent being frustrated while talking. Why didn't this guy just take a French class and open up his mind to learning French through the daily interactions he has with his French girlfriend? It would be the easier way, lol. Makes me think even more that this earpiece is just a scam.

I'm not complaining, i actually really like your "crowdfunding analysis" videos and think that should be more (and more chinese bootleg stuff analysis, i miss those, hehe). And, back to this video again, is really sad to see so many people falling for those almost magic crowdfundings. As i said before, this kind of financing was suposed to be something good, not another way to scam people... oh well. I hope we are all wrong and the device turns out to be great, but is really unlikely.
@StopDropRetro8 жыл бұрын
Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm so thankful to have fans like you, I've thought about that recently how this channel has transformed quite a bit over time. I've explained before how I had to drop the 99 cent bin game reviews because they just weren't getting enough views to justify it, but I think a little piece of them survives in the Indiebox reviews. I started doing the crowdfunding analysis videos during the Retro VGS videos and it was never supposed to turn into a recurring segment, in fact, I was afraid people would get upset and accuse me of going after low hanging fruit. But instead people loved it and that gave me the confidence to make videos like this that people are really starting to enjoy! So I guess it's all about being comfortable and figuring out what subjects have enough people who like looking at it as much as I do. And don't worry about the hardware reviews! I know where my bread is buttered and I've got a good one coming up next!

I can't believe you caught that like really quick. I did sound very believable and you are right there are other apps out there that can do it much better than what they are proposing. To me it looks like they are just using an earpiece with an existing app. I do have an idea for anyone that is reading this. My daughter gave me the idea really. She is only 2 months old and she loves Mario music especially the underwater themes it puts her right out. My wife and I recently bought her a crib side toy that once you push a button underwater creatures move as well as music or ocean sounds play. I think it would be awesome to have a swimming Mario or a Blooper that have a button once someone pushes it can play any underwater theme from Mario. I think that would be a really good idea because the underwater themes like Super Mario 64 are quite calm, collective, and relaxing. Something that would last maybe 20-30 min so she could get drowsy and when I put her down she can still hear the music until she fell asleep. So, if anyone can make something like that let me know I will back someone on Kickstater on that one. I am sure that legal issues would probably come up with Nintendo. I just think that it would be a good idea.

What would be much better, would be a handheld microphone, you can speak in to and have it speak the translation through an internal speaker. The other person can also speak into the microphone. Most people understand what a microphone is for so the language barrier is not an issue to get started in a conversation.
