I like these videos because they are generally kind-hearted, not vicious. Love this narrator. ❤

I LOVED her in How to Marry A Millionaire. Her comedy timing was brilliant, so charming and warm-spirited. Shame to hear about the struggles she was facing. Nice video

My Mum's cousin was a Royal Navy sailor in WW2. His ship had gone over to New York to pick up arms. But luckily for him, it broke down so he had to stay in New York for 3 months. Like all sailors in those days, they'd all go dancing. Whilst he was in one location, Betty Grable was there who used to allow one dance with a sailor. But she said to my Mum's cousin, you can have two because you are cute! He had an amazingly colourful life. He survived four beach landings including D-Day, was award the Legion D'honneur by the French and his daughter married a man who owned hotels and moved to California and whose neighbour was Grace Kelly who he spoke to over the fence. Covid got him in the end at the ripe old age of 96. But he was sharp as a tac when I spoke to him a year or two before he died.

I'm 88 now and Betty Grable was my favorite movie star when I was a child. I didn't know her personal life was so unhappy. So sad that while she brought so much cheer and happiness to her fans (and to WWII soldiers) she had so little of it for herself.

Despite the magic and the beauty old movies created and displayed, it seems all the stars in them had heartbreaking lives. Not least of which were their romances. When I was a kid, I'd watch old films on TV with my grandma, completely spellbound. I BELIEVED them. What's hard to believe is that now, decades later, I'm still emerging from their spell. It started to unravel for me when I wondered, why don't any of the actors and actresses have the kind of storybook lives they're portraying? Because, they simply do not exist that way. The realization comforted me and let me down.

The end of this video claims Betty was 7 months pregnant in the swimsuit photo, but her first child, a daughter, wasn't born until 15 months after that photo was taken. (Despite the pose, she didn't look 7 months pregnant to me, so I did some fast googling on the dates, and I also found a cinema historian debunking this rumour.)

Oh well, the 'best' stories usually aren't quite neatly correct. Maybe she was 7 months pre-pregnant?

My aunt Nellie worked in a Hollywood dry cleaning and laundry establishment, she tells my grandfather to close his eyes and extend his hand, she slips a pair of panties over his hand and exclaimed: “Now you can say you had your hand in Betty Grable’s pants.”

I generally watch between one to three movies by any specific actor/actress. In Betty Grable's case, however, l believe l have seen all (or most) of her movies. She was so talented. I am truly sorry she felt insecure. The only serious movie i remember her in was "l Wake Up Screaming," with Victor Mature. I would love to see a bio of VICTOR MATURE.

Remember her best as a teen in those Astaire/Roger's films 'The Gaye Divorcee' and 'Follow the Fleet.' The 'Let's Knock Knees' number she does with Everet Everett Horton was "risque," to say the least.

The narrator's assertion that Betty Grable became a big star after her pin-up photo appeared is historically wrong. Anyone still alive from WW II will tell you that Betty Grable already had been a major movie star for several years before her pin-up photo appeared, not that her photo created her stardom.

Thank you for this!! I grew up in the lee of WWII, and Betty Grable was a household word. I never knew how rough she had it, or how nice a person she was. Now actors have much more say in their careers, but those early girls paved the way-- with the bones of their talent. And by the way, George Raft was a legend- for his stupidity. And now we find out he was a thug offscreen as well.

Norma Jean would have refused to do such a nasty thing pedicure or not. The press is always unkind to scrappers, and very fawning of the compliant ones. She refused to work while under Preminger on the set of River of No Return when they were abusing stage hand laborers. She told them she would be ready to work when they gave them proper breaks.
