Have a 1982 Ping Anser. Same copper finish with classic ping sound. Still works well.

I just checked online here in Canada, and I can pick up #9/100 from the US for the bargain price of $4000 USD 😵💫. At that price I would expect it to come with a Tour Pro to do the putting for me.

You are talking about the Hovi Putter! That one was limited to 100 Putters. The Putter reviewed here is a lot more accesible!

Interesting. I recently got an Odyssey Rosie S OG putter. It was £85 and when it arrived it was the John Rahm version so has no sight lines at all on it. I absolutely love it as I don’t use a line on my ball and have found sight lines a bit distracting as often found myself looking where lines were striking ball instead of concentrating on ball and the whole. My putting has improved immensely. Each to their own I guess.

I also extended my putter and added a that Winn grip. Using a Cleveland HB soft premier extended to 37 inches

Here in the USA, the 36 inch version seems to be on backorder, but DID find a place that has the 35".

I think it looks awesome.
@davidfletcher68364 ай бұрын
Just had a fitting on a lab putter and you can customise it to your own look within reason. About 30 different line up lines to choose from several colours and it’s fitted to your height and lie angle for 539 which seemed expensive but actually probably is reasonable.
@SpeedzyWGJK15 күн бұрын
For the alignment line, Ping probably didn’t want to sell a retail putter that would require the lie angle to be perfect. If they put both lines on the putter and the lie angle was off at all they wouldn’t line up together.

Great to see Head Pro Harry on the channel Dan, always thought you should get him on a course vlog, any thoughts? You and Lester vs Harry and Josh filmed at Churston, annual match, Ray Rearden trophy, bring it on. Oh, and Scotty Cameron Newport for me, all day long.

This is interesting. I am also a huge PING fan and am kind of scratching my head here as to why they didn’t make this putter more like Victor Hovland’s. I think PING really missed the mark on this. Too many differences that make the putter almost completely different. The size and grip alone is enough to make you wonder what they were thinking.
@chippycut14064 ай бұрын
Nice video Dan. PING were never going to make it like his actual putter with the limited 100 piece Hovi edition that they already came out with. That being said I actually like this version better. It's very clean. Make sure to keep this putter dry and oil it people or it will turn into a rust bucket. One of the reasons many OEMs do not sell carbon finishes anymore.
@chippycut14064 ай бұрын
To add some clarity to my comment. This is not 303 stainless it's 1018 carbon steel. Hence the good feel. PING recommend food grade silicon spray to prevent rust and like I said above keep it dry. Do not put it away wet like Rick Shiels did or 1018 carbon will rust.

They had one of the Victor Holland DS72 SE's at my local store, it sold quickly. I like the standard PLD Gunmetal DS72 better - Dark shaft keeps my focus on the putter head, head has the milled face and the longer white alignment line on the bottom. I need that longer sight line to better set the face to my intended start line for the putt. Getting old. Oh, and mine is 35" length, my actual fit length. As for grips, eventually, I'll replace the Ping grip for a Lamkin Deep Etched putter grip, a best fit for me. The PLD DS72 is new to my bag this year and replaces a very old and slightly bent Taylormade TM-770 with the gray PureRoll face insert. It held the #1 spot in the bag for many years.

I think a degree of naivety here. There was a limited run of 100 exact copies of the Hoveland putter presumably at some exorbitant price, if this version were made to exactly the same spec it would make that special 100 not special at all ? I’m not saying it is right or wrong but it is hardly surprising that it is not quite up to the special limited edition version.

Looks beautiful, though. Reminds me of the Mizuno C5 putter from back in the day when Bettinardi was making the Mizuno putter line. I had that putter, but sadly it was stolen.

Absolute disgrace from ping. Buy a hovland putter that looks nothing like a putter used by hovland. What a con. Ping should be embarrassed. Esp after the £500 putter fitting nonsense that they do. Losing their way are Ping.

First that insane putter fitting cost with a crappy putter (they have kinda resolved that now). And now this.

I liked Ping far better when Karsten ran the company. His heirs seem to be as money-motivated as the other mainstream brands. And the loft-jacking with the G430 irons led me to switch iron brands after decades with Ping. Times have changed...

They certainly charge enough for this one, it should really be like for like being a ltd edition 'Hovland' putter!
@stuartmcinnes29034 ай бұрын
Definitely dropped the ball there I think Ping. Not the first PLD quality/value for money questions I’ve seen raised online. The R&D, manufacturing and marketing departments probably need to get their heads together when it comes to replicas like this. I’m sure as he’s the current FedEx champion they could have got a bit of money from their side if cost was an issue to cover the blades for cutting the shaft, machines for the extra aim groove on the top, a bit of white paint and even the overtime of the workers to build them if needed. They still make quality putters without the need for poor imitations of tour only clubs. If it did so well in the US market why dilute it for another. 🤷♂️

So Ping have made a Hovland limited edition putter that's not like his putter. Like Ping making a Rory driver except he uses Taylormade 😜
@michaelscore67634 ай бұрын
Yes, it costs more money making such individual signs on a putter - but only a few bucks! It's a shame making money with such editions. My first putter was a anser like seve used. This putter sounded unique and that's it. If i would buy tomorrow a putter i would take never a ping again!

That's an absolute disgrace from Ping. After the putter fitting fiasco as well they should be ashamed. In no way is that a Hovland putter. Can't help but think that Ping are turning to gimmicks and dodgy marketing as they are falling behind other brands now especially in the putter department, which is a real shame. They need some fresh blood I think and a new direction. Never thought I'd see it out of Ping but it feels like they're starting to rip off the consumer

I do get where Harry is coming from but surely he didnt really think he was getting a replica. Not doubting Harry's ability and obviously is a respected PGA Professional but he is not Victor Hovland ability. Ping pay Victor lots and lots of money for him to use their kit. Marketing Exposure here is key. To put this another way, the wannabes amongst us want the kit the tour pros use, it reality we might want a Tiger Woods of Rory etc set of irons costing many thousands of pounds but they would not make us play any better in fact probably worse. Having a Victor Hovland putter to his exact spec wasnt going to be £500 the liklehood another 0 would have been on the end. Its a nice looking putter Harry but for the money i would have bought a Scotty 😂
@tonyweymouth31114 ай бұрын
It’s typical Ping in my opinion, all the points Harry made is totally justified, that is not Hovland’s putter. Very poor from Ping, ripping off their customers. 👎

I suppose the problem with making a full hovland putter is the fact that most people gonna use it put putter cover on and not use it till nxt round, it would be a pile of crap in 6 months, as hovlands is unplated steel and would rust and pit, loads of wannabe's would be making warranty claims against ping
