I am involved in the independent (alternative) education landscape, and it seems to me this administration is also actively working to nationalise private education. They are making the requirements and guidelines to register and operate a school legally in SA harder and harder, similarly for parents to homeschool children. My message to all parents, wake up from your slumbers, start finding out what they teach your children, get involved in school communities don't just trust blindly.

@@dlwilkinson The tragedy of the slow demise of South Africa through lawfare by the state (AA, BBEEE etc. as per the CancEr's NDR) against their citizens or at least against a specific group of it's citizens to achieve equality. Like it was said elsewhere on these pages "equality can be achieved in two ways. The uplifting of the downtrodden poor to higher economic levels (my preference) or to force the middle / upper class to the lowest levels of poverty and ignorance (ANC's preference)". This talk doesn’t address the contentious clauses or how to solve them. He didn't address the fact that grade R is now compulsory. Given that the WC has advised that more 2,400 contract teacher posts will be eliminated in 2025, I can't understand the logic in introducing another grade at this stage. How will this be financed? By cutting school meals and transport? This move will probably impact the very segment the government is trying to uplift. I worry that we're making quantity more important than quality.

Mother tongue instruction ensures that learners achieve the best - maximally - in knowledge. The emphasis on teaching in the so-called international languages, to the exclusion of what learners have been exposed to, prior to coming across those languages, becomes a farce. Advanced countries in groundbreaking scientific sand skilled knowledge are those who were never saddled with learning in languages foreign to them. This is a powerful academic treatise. Thanks again, Doc.
@bevturner2258
@bevturner2258 Ай бұрын
Mother tongue education is crucial in the first few years of school. We have 12 official languages which makes this particularly challenging. I oppose the government’s position about closing small farm schools which service the needs of young rural pupils. Just because a school has less than 135 pupils, doesn’t mean it’s ineffective.

At our school we fought to keep our Afrikaans classes open as that was Beacon Valleys community's home Language. We had endless trouble convincing parents. I can tell you funny jokes of grade ones doing Language of learning in English. We were forced to take afrikaans classes away as totals dwindled . Result. Our learners performance dropped. They didn't understand what you were saying. Thus lots of dropouts roaming mitchells plain. Reasons. Language of learning was separated from home Language. Language..

Parental involvement is essential, and freedom to choose the language of learning is a non- negotiable. However, either government nor parents, or anyone else involved with teaching and learning mustt dictate to well qualified, dedicated teachers who are highly trained and skilled.

Win-Win solution and highly educated Muslim children who go on to excellent professional careers. Not a government employee / subsidy in sight in this whole system. Makes one think!!!

Even former model C schools are bad. My kids attended one with beautiful sports fields, pools and nice classrooms. However, in my opinion, the quality of the education they received was low. The school was more interested in letting kids practice concerts for hours, and it was all about photo opportunities and creating videos for the school website. I moved them to an online school that follows the IEB curriculum, and you can see the standard is MUCH higher than the CAPS curriculum. They had to take extra classes, but are now catching up. I found the CAPS curriculum is especially bad at teaching reading, I had to teach my oldest son myself by downloading a phonics curriculum online.

In actual fact there was a great deal of opposition to this bill. I spent a couple of hours reading through objections, none of which were taken into account when Ramaphosa signed the bill into law. The government has allowed a further 3 months to discuss clauses 4 and 5 which deal with admissions and language policy. These were the most contentious clauses because they take power away from the School Governing Body and give the final authority to provincial government. If no consensus is reached in 3 months, these clauses will come into effect, without further discussion.

Let's be clear about the South African situation. White Afrikaners make up a very small minority in SA and this is the group most affected by the BELA Bill. It's unrealistic to expect an ANC led government to prioritise the needs of minority groups, despite their protection in terms of the constitution. I would think the only solution for Afrikaners is to establish their own private, independent schools. For those that can’t afford this option there is distance learning and homeschooling. I’m hoping that the BELA Bill will be challenged in court, to establish whether it is in contravention of the constitution.

You are clearly not bothering to go do your homework - the vast majority of people who speak Afrikaans are NOT in fact white.

@@UserHilux579 Yes I know that, but most of the opposition seems to be coming from White Afrikaners and home schoolers. I spent a few hours reading through opposition submissions to parliament and they seemed to centre around religion and language. I live in the Western Cape and most Coloureds seem to speak Afrikaans 😊

What about the Islamic school system, are these people excluded from this bill and if they are what sets them apart from the rest of the schools and homeschooling with a religious foundation of schooling.

It will dumb down education ! We need to learn from successful schools !
@bevturner2258
@bevturner2258 Ай бұрын
Successful schools have better resources. Generally speaking, the old model C schools are the best performing state schools. Private schools are better than state schools because they are properly funded and attract the best teachers. Unfortunately, money is the differentiating factor. Trying to uplift all state schools to the level of formerly model C schools will take more money than the government is prepared to spend. The government has cut spending on education so a lower standard of education in state schools is inevitable.

It is pitty, that my letter to your organization did not reach you mr Roets. You would be able to use example of me, having one of the higher qualifications in SA-recognized, verified and used by both governments, but suddenly thanks to the lazy mind of government appointees, I have no qualifications whatsoever in their application of gov. pervertly implemented rule. I, as normal person have in practice only option, to just disapear from this world now. Hope lost... 🤔🤔🤔🤣🤣🤣.

@@bevturner2258 . It is not that the qualificatins are not recognized per se. It is that they-mine were recognized, verified and local exams passed, but 10 years later new government body was replacing previous gov. body and new political apointee cannot comprehend or is unable to do informed decision to accept submitted facts. Qualifications are: Architecture, Town urban planning, Project Management + 35 years working experience, and body which have problem with those, is PPRA real estate regulatory body made into money extraction system from agents all under pretence of "transformation"....really Kafka scenario....🤫🤔🤑
