I almost feel like the squip cares about Jeremy in a way. Like he's doing what he knows to be the best thing for Jeremy. It's almost like he's doing the wrong thing for the right reason he can't break his code but he tries to help the best he can he even let's Jeremy talk to Michael gives him five minutes. Yes there are times that are less desirable but then there are times where it's almost father son like when he calls him slugger. (book squip is best squip though)

At one point (in the broadway version at least) the squip says "I will improve your life, Jeremy, even if I have to squip the entire human race." So the squip never deviates from his base programming of helping Jeremy just gets a little confused doing it.
