I'm so happy for this couple they finally got their dream home. You can't really please everyone. This house is tailored to the owner's needs and wants not to just everyone's taste. This makes the architects design's successful. I am very impressed how the couple set an example that there is no limit to sustainability.

I love the uniqueness of this house. The risk is when the neighbors on both sides decide to also built to its height, the architecture would then disintegrate in an instance. The greatness of the house borrows a lot from the modesty of its surrounding.

I'd counter argue that. Conservatism, especially amongst the prominent, is quickly dying. Younger individuals these days don't conform to a way of life, and have explored the world, opening their eyes to things such as liberalism and freedom of expression. I actually see more terrace houses being bought up and redesigned in a contemporary and unique way. This is the future of landscape in Malaysia, especially amongst the prominent areas and it is very exciting indeed. I would love to see townships where each terrace house had an architect run through and totally redesigned the house. Can you imagine what wild designs will start popping up. Exciting!

The windows were build on the front and back side of the houses ,and the sunshine enter from here ,so I think It may not have so much shadow and bad impact..I don't know,it is just a thinking from the video

Yes it will disintegrate because the tree will break the foundation. Trees like chicu . Especially chicu will grow big .and pomelo still have roots it will crack the walls!!

i love that he mentioned that he built a home, so many people in this country thinks about just practicality and selling on value and all, and usually design is compromised because of that. its why so many houses here are cookie cutter box shaped and lack imagination.

I absolutely hate the houses that lacked this customised simple home for people who looked for a change of pace in this country. I want a large garden, farmland, underground storages and star viewing roof. I want a good home that are independent with it's own eco friendly energy sufficient that able to stand on itself off grid land. I dislike conjoined houses, narrow spaces, generals noises, lacked of green and noisy neighbours.

These things are basically not worth much, but they have been removed from homes here so long that these are seen as "premium" things to have in a house now. Ridiculous

@@adkan1995 That's because the general people haven't been exposed to the ideas of a simple home that built for a long term project. A good home is the home that can survive on itself, like earth intergrated houses aka hobbit like. I loves simple home that are careful planned and intergrated with the earth. When you built homes or design a city that will last for hundreds of years, you had to have this kind of mentality. The houses can be reselled in the future for the future generations. The houses had to have a room for improvement. I'm been thinking long term is very good instead of houses that will be rotted, abandoned and lacked the natural ambience that allowed for self sufficient. If more people aware of this, people will change their narrowed minds into a more creative way of living. People shouldn't judge others for this and instead work together to build our own homes. The houses had to work together with each other to created a superior way of houses that able to accommodate the creative sides of the owner. Together the world united.

@@wanderingghost7324 wow, you want a large garden, a farmland..? This place is called Bangsar, virtually a part of the City of Kuala Lumpur. This is like other cities - Jakarta, Tokyo, London , NY. This is the house within half hour to City centre! Ever see large garden or farms within the mentioned cities? You want large garden, get one within 3 hour drive away, plenty of space to build your farmhouse there.

I love the house. I wish to have a sustainable house in the future. I wish they incorporate the hydroponic system to lessen the water consumption But I have some questions: How do they manage the insects, mosquitos, flies and ants? Will the structure can withstand the weights of plants over time? Are they located in earthquake prone area?

Good question. I also wonder if the armed concrete will survive global warming as metal expands quicker than concrete. I hope so.

It's in Malaysia, water is free as it rain almost every other day and there are no earthquakes. The mosquitoes are a problem wherever you are in Malaysia, but if they let the geckos and the spiders live together with them that will reduce the mosquitoes somewhat.

No problem with insects. The geckos and fish take care of things. The rainwater tanks provide nearly all the water year round. The plants weigh very little. A few tremors from earthquakes in Sumatra. KL is very fortunate in terms of tectonics.

Yes, insects are big problems in many countries because they can trasmit Chaga disease, dengue, chikungunya...many countries expend a lot of money on fighting these diseases. I think houses shouldn't have "garden" on every floor (in fact, this big house with many floor is not good for old people and disable people... if you want a house for living there till you die you need to remember that you are going to get old and ill). I think people should think more about being elder. Rich people can buy elevator, cleaners, chefs...but most people on Earth aren't rich. I think people should buy houses that: -have a proper size (= to avoid dirty space, to avoid space that isn't used, to avoid buying another house because the family became bigger etc) -have no floor (= better for old people, paraplejic people etc) -have a proper space for vegetals (=It avoids redundancy and It gives vegetals the respect they deserve).

It's true that the client and architect should have been more considerate and consider how the design does affect its surrounding neighbours. But on the other hand, this is located in the wealthy affluent neighbourhood of Bangsar where we see a lot of obtrusive renovations that are far worse than this; at least this was designed with some sustainability and green elements involved. It's inevitable this wealthy neighbourhood will change and become more densely built instead of maintaining the outdated terrace houses which families will outgrow over time. 50 years later, we probably see this neighbourhood having an eclectic range of unique designed homes much like Japan. It's a beautifully designed home that really stands out in Malaysian architecture and hope to see more of this.

I dont mind it actually. If you travel overseas, especially to European or western countries, you can see that each house is individual, custom built and uniquely designed. There's no conformity and people are free to express themselves through the property that they have built. Malaysia is quickly changing. Gone are the days of being conservative and timid, especially when it comes to designing your own home. And I actually see this as the future of terrace houses in and around the KL city centre. As more and more prominent, wealthy and young at heart individuals take over. Especially those who have gone overseas to work and live for a few years and looking to return to Malaysia as an early retirement destination. These type of people aren't necessarily looking for a big bungalow and prefer to purchase a quaint smaller house in the Klang Valley and use the funds instead to build their own unique home of their own to retire and live in.

Strictly design-wise, I have no issue - it was inspiring. However, I saw a lot of red flag in regard with compliance with current Municipal Law. Please refer: psasir.upm.edu.my/id/eprint/78451/1/FRSB%202018%2019%20IR.pdf Any idea how the house immediately left and right of the house are affected when there are heavy rain? and how about blocking natural aeration coming from left and right?

Problem with local tropical trees is the falling of leaves might disturb the surrounding area. Also raising levels might prevent natural lights and fresh airflow to reach neighbours house. Please negotiate with the neighbours if you want to do this kind of stuff in the future.

I guess in this case money was a "door opener" to become the allowance to build a house, which is much higher than the other ones around it. Maybe I would like the house if it was somewhere else, but here it's just a thorn in the side of a nice neighbourhood.

Planning allows the addition of an extra floor. There is a good reason for it in cities where space is at a premium. As for the comment on money, it hardly deserves a reply. Just ill will in my view.

In light of climate change, archi designers should incorporate sustainable designs instead of a home where one has to turn on the light as they enter despite Malaysia having an all year round sunlight. Not only that, the design is so brilliant that the house is cool enough that air-conditioning is not required most times! Although the lot is small, the owners actually make use of the small space that they have! Simply brilliant. No other words to describe it.

I'm curious about the use of rooftop space in the terrace houses in KL. Obviously it is possible to make it into usable space but almost no one does it. It seems like a real waste not to put in a space for a BBQ and table and chairs or something along those lines. Of course it adds cost and complexity but that will come back in the form of usability and property value.
