Another one of those “Mach Hommy things” I like is on Pray for Haiti’s Pen Rale where you hear Mach say, “Oh my god, he’s doing it again.” Instant laughs.

I spent a unnecessary amount of time deciphering those Rolf Beeler lines so i gotta share it with y’all lol… Unfortunately he actually says “Rambo of cheeses” which is Rolf Beeler’s nickname. I say unfortunately cus I think “Rambo and Jesus” woulda been a better line lol. Anyways… “Rolf Beeler, Rambo of cheeses making you a libra” Unnecessarily complicated way of saying he’s going to “Swiss cheese” someone which is slang for shoot and putting holes in to someone. Rolf Beeler was known specifically for Swiss cheese and then Rolf’s “Rambo” nickname plays into the gun play aspect of it. “Making you a libra” Makes no sense until the next line… “You just a scale, way my gon led shaving ya ceases” So this line explains that making you a libra means make you a scale (the logo for the libra Astro sign is a scale) which sets up the double entendres… “Way (weigh) my gun lead” Where way sounds like weigh so he’s saying (paraphrasing) ‘the way my gun lead shaves…’ and you’re ‘weigh my gun lead (I guess with your head) while it shaves…’ This is unnecessarily complicated IMO and sucks some of the enjoyment out of the album cus the album is filled with lines like this. But I guess if you’re gonna charge $444 for this album like Mach originally did, you gotta pack it with content and replay value. I will say I don’t like Fahim but his straightforward style of punching is a breathe of fresh air on some of these songs and provides balance.

I mean the gun talk is always gonna be massively overstated when it comes to East Coast shit. Thats like a prerequisite lmao i dont think its unnecessary tho, it's all part of how the artists characterizes themselves to the listener. I mean his catchphrase is "flip you like" so it's to be expected. I just appreciate the wicked lyricism even if the overall meaning isn't that deep at the end of the day. It keeps the gun talk fresh
@BSideRapReviews2 жыл бұрын
@@jacuzzoda1346 oh nah I’m a huge fan of gun bars - he can have a gun bar in every single line far as I’m concerned lol. I meant the line itself was excessively complex. In other words, I don’t think that line was good enough to warrant how long it takes for someone to decipher it. Like if you’re the type of person who wants to understand every line - that can get really tedious with some of his work and the juice ain’t worth the squeeze in every case. Not tryna be too negative on Mach though - he’s one of my favs and I really like this project

“I got low like Woodbury Commons” I’m from NYC. Woodbury Commons is a shopping center with many outlet stores, (Outlet malls aren’t allowed in the city I believe) so many people from the city drive up out of the city to go to Woodbury Commons to shop as there’s cheaper clothes and lower taxes. So Mach got low (out of sight) like Woodbury Commons (low prices), honestly something only people from NYC/NJ would understand. I found this line hilarious. EDIT: Also his reference of Essex to Nassau & Broward County is very similar to the lines on Continental Breakfast on Dollar Menu 2. Where he says “Ever since Ford stopped making Bronco’s because of Orenthal, I was cordoned-off from Halstead to Pine Grove.” Basically insinuating Mach was wanted in Jersey and thus he likely fled South to Atlanta & Florida (he’s spoken about parts of his life where he was down there a few times) to lay low for a while.

“I need me my pound of flesh” on Maslow’s Hammer is a reference to Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice - the pound of flesh is the spiteful collateral that the moneylender Shylock desires for his loan to Antonio. To Mach, it’s him saying he wants revenge

On Rolf Beeler the first first few lines are actually a direct quote of Fabolous on his song “Rap & Sex”. “So all i do is rap & sex, imagine how I stroke, see how I was flowin on my last casette” then he veers off into his own lyrics.

Your reviews are so interesting and I love your honesty. I thought that was Eckert Tolle on that first track not DDL. But I definitely see my confusion. DDL as Plainview was frighteningly good!! It’s so cool getting different perspectives on this brilliant artist. And the best part is you don’t try and wear some hip hop crown like king rap music. Your humility and respect speak volumes. And when the lyrics get abstract and esoteric you aren’t afraid to admit you don’t know wtf he’s talking about bc I don’t either. But damn if hours or days after banging Mach and the God those lyrics just come out of nowhere. Like my favorite Fahim verse. “I rock with noble men in tough fabric!” Just something about how he delivers it, when and the pure “wtf” make it classic. Do I really know what he’s talking about? Nope. It just sounds dope to me. EVERYTIME I HEAR IT!! This is what critics never get. It’s not always what is said but how, or how some beats are just so amazing I could care less what the actual lyrics are until 20-30 times listened to That’s what I consider good music. Things you hear over and over but don’t really catch until having done so. Music w layers. Mach hommy is like a Korean movie. You watch in awe at the powerful scenes wondering wtf is going on. But by the time it finishes, all loose ends will be neatly tied up and if you paid attention, the climax will blow your mind. But they NEVER EVER spell it out for you. If your too lazy to follow and appreciate art that demands deconstruction for full comprehension then it isn’t for you.
