After that, you can go and play on any internet connection around the world (as long as it’s a decent connection and as long as your NAT-type is not causing any trouble.) DON’T turn off your console completely, because it needs to be in rest/sleep mode in order for you to remotely turn it on with your Portal.

The portal is not confusing. This review is confusing. The UPLOAD speed connected to your PS5 is what really matters for a smooth experience on the portal. The experience on the portal is much better than remote play on a phone or laptop in my experience. Also the headphone jack is a SELLING point for anyone with decent headphones lol. It's actually a pretty dope product at a low price point.

Just bought it and I like it so far. When you log into a wifi for the first time, it gets a little laggy, but after a couple minutes it just runs smooth. Only important thing is to input an ethernet cable into your ps5

I pay for 1.2 gb internet speeds and ya it wasn’t awful, but still doesn’t feel like you’re playing on your ps5 directly. Especially for multiplayer games like MW3, this isn’t something you want to play those games on.

I had to carry the cable to connect to the phone to get the vibration to work and it only worked with the psplay app not the PlayStation remote play app... And the psplay app only gave a little vibration and adaptive triggers. The PlayStation portal is more convenient to explain it better. More convenient, less latency.

Thanks for the info in the video. Couple of things to correct... the LinkBuds you pictured are not the ones that work with the Portal (crazy confusing from Sony though!). It is the new PS Explore Buds and and upcoming Pulse Elite headset that have "Playstation Link" that will wirelessly connect to this. Also (and others have mentioned this) the PS5 will remote play 1080p to a Mac. Those settings in the remote play app are for PS4s only.

​@@theryan519 you can run remote play software for PS5 out of steam. Therefore the frame rate is dictated by the PS5 as the output is just relayed to the deck over the network. The steam deck runs Bluetooth which the Portal does not. The steam deck is also a personal computer and true hand held gaming device as you have access to native steam games. You hold the steam deck as a hand held or use any wireless controller using the native display or any other display via usbC to HDMI. The steam deck is a better Sony product than the portal IMO

It’s fine for a handheld that’s significantly cheaper than other handhelds like the steam deck or even the psp and ps vita which launched at 250. But at the cost of being significantly worse. It’s accessible and the streaming is better than normal remote play but it’s exactly what you expect. It runs as good as your internet.

the steam deck oled just works aswel for streaming ps5 games , sure you have to do abit of tinkering but at least you can actually download games to it .

The portal is amazing, works flawlessly when having a stable connection. Even able to play some single player games over my mobile hotspot, but Sony made some wierd choices with this. I dont care about lack of bluetooth, as bluetooth audio is a laggy mess for gaming and Id never use it, but lack of media streaming apps, lack of PS4 remote play and lack of PSplus cloud streaming is wierd.

It’s a streaming screen for wifi for the PS5. Thats why it’s called the portal. Think of it as Wii U gamepad wii WIFi needed.

Yeah. Despite the blue tooth crap (which is pretty frustrating ngl) I’m really enjoying my portal. I play PS5 wherever I get WiFi. I’m not a PC/Xbox gamer so I can’t argue with what Microsoft has available.

Fast internet isn't always the best. That's not how remote play works. You need good latency/ping, slower internet or lower bitrate will work way better on higher latency. So using 10Mbps stream will get you a way better input lag than something like a 300Mbps stream.
