One Amazon reviewer said: "I bought this in the hopes that I could use it for martial arts performance, and based on the last couple days I'm fairly certain I can. The cane is definitely stronger than I thought it would be, and if you give it a twist to tighten it up after it unfurls then it holds its shape very well. I tried to see how sturdy I could make it by twisting it tighter, and if you shorten up the length to about 2/3 and twist it tight enough it's actually about as sturdy as a thin steel pipe and could easily hurt someone. At full extension it can definitely uncoil if you swing it too violently, but for a basic and flashy martial arts demonstration it should hold up fairly well."
@Theartofkirkabrigo6 жыл бұрын
I would have to agree with this review up to a cetain point. It is great for demos for sure. In fact if they marketed it for that I would say they are being honest. But to market it as as an effective self defense weapon which is what they did is not accurate. Even as a demo prop, there are still the other factors about this thing that makes it dangerous to anyone having it. So even as a demo prop, I would have to say buyer beware.

I have experience with the 3 foot version of this device. It is not a weapon or even intended to look like one. It is actually a magic wand for stage magicians. Back in the 1990s a friend of mine was a martial arts instructor and an amateur magician. There was an upcoming martial arts expo and he had a martial arts magic show as his demonstration. Part of the show was fighting me with this "staff," doing a few hits and then getting me in an armlock and a takedown. We practiced the demo with a wooden staff, and then with this fake staff for hours until it looked real, and this was for a segment that was only about 30 seconds of the show. It takes a lot of work to convincingly move as if you are being attacked with a wooden staff when it is really a flimsy prop. People are complaining about the unpredictability of the opening, so I'm guessing that these are lower quality than the one we used for the show. It wouldn't be good for a magician's career if his wand shot out into the audience and cut someone. lol
@Theartofkirkabrigo6 жыл бұрын
any magician who is using this thing as part of his magic trick better have good insurance for when this thing cuts his hand or accidently hurts someone in the audience. You probably work for the company or something. Because you may need to look at the ad again. Didn't see any "Magicians" in it.
@Dosetsu16 жыл бұрын
@@Theartofkirkabrigo NO, I don't work for the company. I also said that the one my friend used was better quality than this one, probably not made in China, and this was in the 1990s. I said as much in the last paragraph. It will not work for self-defense, which is what this current model is sold for. It is far too light to be a good fighting staff. It would be easier to beat someone up with a Nerf sword than one of these things. Relying on the opening to hit a person in the face is a very bad strategy. You'd get only one shot, and it is an unreliable one at that. It would rely too much on everything going perfectly. I don't know any martial arts instructor who'd take this thing seriously. If I was working for the company why would I say it won't work for the stated purpose and that it was instead originally meant for something totally different? This is not a weapon, it is a prop for a show, and the one being sold now is probably an inferior copy of the original.

@@Dosetsu1 I misunderstood your last statement. Apologies. I thought you were saying that THIS was a magicians tool. My Bad. I do agree though that this is sub par.
