I had the enormous pleasure to meet Shane at a small gig in London ages ago. He was the total opposite when you met him in person. He was kind , very down to earth and his sensitivity transpired. Thanks for the beer and the song Shane, I'll never forget that, and above all thanks for the music!!!! . A bit but not totally wasted..He knew what he was doing and could hold a conversation. In fact, he asked me quite a few questions. First thing he did is invite me for a beer though 😂. . He was, without any doubt, quite clever, very humble, down to earth and very genuine and, amazingly, quite shy too. I am totally sure he talked to me because I didn't behave as a fan.. I am spanish, had only been living in the UK for a couple of years then.and Ididn't have a clue he was so famous in the UK but I remember well I thought he was special. There was something unique, about him... a special kind of sensitivity... . Top bloke indeed!!! Top bloke!
I compare this concert to the 1985 show in Munich... the degradation in Shane is huge in just six short years. Very sad, but was also fortunate to see them in Chicago after he'd put it back together a bit. Rest on easy, poet. There will never be another one like you.

Did anyone else pull this up after reading James' book "Here Comes Everybody"? The last pages talk about this very show. They had already informed Shane that he was gone. And they were all essentially mourning him from the stage. And you could see how bad he had gotten. Especially on "Sally MacLennane".

Two-bit celebrities like Bob Dylan, Sinead O'Connor, Johnny Depp and Bono spent many years basically praising MacGowan to the skies and basically not lifting a white-gloved finger to help MacGowan get into REHAB. The band was put in a position of being betrayed by his off-stage antics and had no choice but to fire the guy, but next time you see hilarious brown-nosings of various celebrities blowing smoke up MacGowan's arse, just remember that it was only O'Connor who attempted to help him, and in the end it turned out to be more or a less a garbage publicity stunt.

So you want to throw the border wide open and let anyone come here? Does any other country on Earth do that? What about MS-13?

Mike Kelley oh fuck off- keep the bullshit politics out of it, mate.
Shame about the lead singer who is about to fall over with the drink. Fucking disgrace. This is one of my favorite bands mind you. But, this, is not acceptable.

@@kennyworth007 bloody hell, this is nothing. I saw them in Bournemouth pre this and the band played a good portion of the gig without him. That said, this is brilliant - pacey and band on form

It’s sad, but his aunt taught him very early with dopamine hits to entertain and be manipulated, being drunk and reward was instinsically linked.she was a bit abusive to my way of thinking.

They fired him right before this. Yes they did future concerts and reunions with him. And at times he even sobered up, for little stints. But now he’s a slurred mess in a wheel chair. Sad. Cuz he was so great

@emmafreemoonbeam8873 He was fired in here. He returned in the band in 2001 until 2014.

Some songs are a LOT better performed than others but I love this concert it's.... different lol. For Shane to be this wrecked takes a f*cking lot lol but hey man last show of an era of the original bar the bassist change prior recording the 2nd album (was it?) and it's good and Shane's funny lol.

Thing is too, when he got fired and they got Joe Strummer, like who cared? I went to a club and saw Shane with the Popes and they did plenty of Pogues tunes. I even sold an extra ticket to some dude outside just hoping. Like, have to admit it. Shane was the draw. And he was punk. Ill but punk all the same.
